Hmm, well, that was a hard game to listen to . . . I really wish it were broadcast on TV. I think there were a couple of positives that should be noted. One, the team did not quit. Period. They played hard up until the end of the game and almost (well, actually they did) pull it out. True, they had the lapse at the end of the first half and the start of the second, but I thing the absence of Earnie has to be a factor. She is a consistent part of the line-up and her defense and maturity is needed in this type of setting. Two, Brittainney-the scoring-machine is back! And, Coach G is fired up. This is a very tough conference -- last year all the teams were pretty even with a couple of exceptions, and the season took it's toll on the players. I think that could happen again - so, we must win the winnable games and realize there really aren't any gimmees in the Big 12.
Hopefully someone can get their hands on some footage of this play. Based on the reports of official misconduct this is sounds like a game that I would like to see a complete replay of. It sounds as if Coach G should complain to the Big 12 and have this officiating crew investigated and request that they be reprimanded.
There is little doubt that Texas has footage of the play in question as they tape each game from multiple angles for teaching purposes.
However, if you wish to investigate on your own, below is a link to the Tech website. While there, click on "All Access", register, and you can rewatch the game.
Great effort ladys! Hate to see the refs take that game away from you all. Keep fighting it will come.Look forward to seeing a high energy game on Wednesday.
I think that all the posters should indeed watch that replay. It's always amusing to me how fans can listen to a radio announcer or read a site such as this or any other school's and figure out they have been screwed. I think that when you see the replay, you will find that it did not play out how your announcer said. Didn't any of your posters go to the game? I was there, and I did not see the foul in real action, but I saw it on the replay on the Jumbotron, or whatever that thing is called.
For everyone who thinks that a foul off the ball should not be called, I would like to see your thoughts when you have the same thing happen to you, and it will sooner or later.
AR&BB: thanks for the comments. I have not seen the play so I have not been able to comment either way. I am not sure that I have seen a post from anyone else who actually saw the play but if anyone else did see it I would love to hear their feedback.
After we beat Tennessee I remember seeing someone say that a lot of the posters on the Tennessee board were blaming the officials for their loss to us and that the felt that we got some home cookin'...
TXToCo, Just as some of the posters here think weird things happen in Lubbock, the Tech fans think weird things happen in Austin. A little story from a high school game I attended. A foul was called on one of our girls, and the obligatory statement came from one of our fans, "call it the same on both sides." I looked at the scoreboard and saw that it was the first foul called on our team and the opponent had nine. I wouldn't officiate for any amount of money.
I'm a little late to this party.
I was at the game in Lubbock.
Like AR&BB, I didn't see the foul happen because i was watching the ball. But i saw it replayed on the big screen.
(I don't remember which player was doing what on your team, so forgive me.)
UT was bringing the ball up the right side of the court.
Another UT player is slightly ahead of the ball and running up center court looking back over her shoulder for a possible pass. Jordan Murphree stopped in front of her and got run over. Foul called on UT. That was about the time the three went up. It was ruled that the foul was before the shot. Looked like a good call to me.
The officiating was not great. But both teams benefitted from weird calls. In my (admittedly biased Red Raider) opinion, more of the goofy calls went UT's way, if they favored anyone, in the first half while they were fairly even in the second half.
Your player who fouled out / didn't foul out.
She was called for a foul which would have been her fifth.
After 5-10 minutes of the refs discussing it with both coaches, watching the replays, discussing it amongst themselves, talking to the coaches, watching replayes, more discussions among the refs . . .
It was determined that Tech's previous shot had not hit the rim, so the shot clock, which had been reset, should not have been reset. Therefore there was a shot clock violation prior to the foul. UT ball.
Tech fans were pretty upset about the mess. But after hearing the explaination (on the internet after I got home) I was like, "eh . . . whatever. OK, I can live with that."
I do not believe the officials cost the Longhorns the game. Poor shooting did. Your ladies hustled and played a heck of a game. The ball just wouldn't go in the hole for you. I don't know if that was Tech's defense or just an off night of shooting or both. UT played at least as well as Tech. But sometimes your shots go in and sometimes they don't. That night, Tech had the better shooting.
