On radio, she said, "I'm very disappointed with how we played. No, I take that back. I'm please with our play, I'm disappointed in the officiating. I'm not allowed to say anything about it, but we played our asses off. Game needs to be called fairly" Or something like that.
This team is KILLING me!!! I thought we were done with silly losses, guess not. I'm sorry to be negative, we just can't afford to lose to teams that we should beat, bad officiating or not. ARRRGGGHHH!!!!!!
I hate starting it in Lubbock. Strange and weird things, including officiating calls happen there. At least the Horns will be home the next two games and hopefully, Earnie will be able to play. What, the team shot less than 50% or around there in FTs? Unbelieveable.
uncharacteristically poor free throw shooting absolutely killed us today. 12-21?!? granted they hit clutch free throws at the end, which was great and the reason we hung in towards the end. but missing 9 free throws...disappointing.
Coach G sounded really upset in her very short post game interview.
Some of the calls sounded kinda off based on the radio broadcast but the Horns ae a much better free throw shooting team than they did in this game. Those players are veterans so the crowd should not have made a different. I imagine, while Coach G did complain, sort of, about the officiating, she will remind her team that they had a chance to pull this one out and did not do what they needed.
I want to see this team play as well on the road as they do at home. They certainly are capable of it.
This is the 6th year in a row we have lost at Lubbock. Based on preseason I thought this was the year we would break this jinx. I expected Texas to shell T Tech this year . It didn't happen and now I'm questioning the wonderful season start.
Somehow the team seems unable to live up to the preseason promise. A loss at T Tech? Hep me Lord, please Hep me Lord. Have you been to Lubbock? No way they recruit the talent we do in Austin. Still for 6 years we can't beat them there. Seems to be our failure rather than their success.
We went through the same lapses in Lubbock that we experienced in San Diego and Purdue. My early optimism for this team is now vastly diminished. How can this happen??
Driftwood, I'm having the same feelings. I thought this year was going to be different. I thought we had turned a mental corner, but we seem to have regressed in the past month. It is upsetting to me, but probably not nearly as much as it is to the team/coaches. I SAW the intensity and the fire, but I don't see it now. Where did it go? Did we use it all up for Tennessee?
If we continue to play the way we have for the past few games, we are going to get WAXED at OU, Baylor, A&M, Okie State, Iowa State, and Kansas State. I think we might be able to beat the B12 south teams at home - but that is a mighty big might, unless we start to play much much better!!!
That's at least 9 losses, maybe more if we can't hold serve at home. We may be holding our breath at just making the NCAAs this year. I truly thought the days of holding my breath were over, of course I knew we'd lose some games, just didn't think it would be very many and certainly didn't think we would be worrying about making the NCAAs. Yes, yes, it's way to early to worry about such things, but DANG IT!!!!!
Conference road games are tough for everyone. But, as Jody used to say, the last 5 minutes of the first half, and the first 5 minutes of the second half are crucial for momentum, and we played our worst during those time frames.
I expect more from veterans Lindsey, Cortijo, and Arriaran, and their stats lookk just awful.
Just got back...went to Boulder to see Baylor play CU.
I looked at the box score. We had three starters who were total non-factors. Eleven points between Ashely, Carla and Erika? And 12-21 from the FT line. We can blame the officials, and they may have been bad, but come on. If we have three starters who can muster only 11 points between them and we shoot 57% from the stripe, I don't blame the officials.
BTW...Baylor looked pretty good and CU is much better than I thought. Danielle Wilson has improved leaps and bounds over last year. I was VERY impressed with her agility and ability to finish at the basket.
i wouldn't say that Carla was a total non-factor. yes, she only had 3 points on 0-4 shooting, but she made some big free throws at the end and also made the 3-pointer that would have put Texas ahead by 1...had the refs not called the foul on Kat. she only played 20 minutes and sat for most of the 1st half because she had 2 fouls early. but she had 8 assists and only 1 turnover, and 3 steals.
Tott10...you are correct, I completely failed to mention Carla's assist total, and her assist to TO ratio is very impressive. It is just tough for me to look at the scoreboard and see so many players with so few points.
i agree, it's tough to look at the low scoring. we need more balanced scoring, inside and out. we had a lot of success early in the year by sharing the basketball, and getting the high percentage shot. i think it hurt not having earnie tonite...kat was a warrior filling in for her, and pulling out to the 3 position at times. but we really needed another body inside when both ashley's were in foul trouble.
Most of the teams in the Big 12 are strong in the post. We have improved but need our three main post players available and free from foul trouble. Which is why getting Kelsey for next season is so important.
At any rate, it sounded like the team played better but still not at the level they were in the early part of the season. Last season, they were 2-6 on the road. They need to hold serve at home and at the least break even on the road. The next two home games will be very important for the Horns to win. That would help them get some confidence back and hopefully, get them on a roll.
this has been an interesting class ot follow, the one's that came in ranked so high a couple of years ago, they had been playing better this year, but now it seems they are finding ways to lose instead of win - at this point there should be much more consistency - i can see why they drove coach conradt crazy as well as coach g now -
there is time left to correct the ship, so we will see - also, it is interesting to see how a couple of players we have that were supposed to be impact players just haven't gotten it done - the fun of recruiting - this recruting season and next are critical -there is so much talent in this state and if we don't get our share, it will be a long road to recovery - our opponents have some stellar classes coming in - i hate to pin our hopes to recovery on one person, but i think kelsey is that important to our program -
