TCU SERIES — WE WIN 2-1

Tech just completed the sweep over K-State. For those carping about current conference standings, keep in mind that we haven't played the Kansas schools yet (which sit at the bottom of the B12). The winner of the B12 will likely have to go 6-0 or 5-1 against them.

And another good performance by Gordon. He’s really stepped up—he was supposed to be our mid week starter. Nice relief under pressure by Sthele today. Also, more nice work by Cobb to close. Cobb’s been throwing really well.

I’m not sure what’s up with bringing in Eckhardt for late relief…???

Might we see a new mid week starter against SFA?

It could still be Eckhardt, as he didn’t throw that much. If not Eckhardt, then who? Morehouse? Olivarez? By Committee? Southard? DuP? Heck, why not just put Stewart out there on the mound to start and see what happens….? After all, He’s the Golden Boy according to the pro scouts. And I keep lobbying for more innings for Johnson. Dude has good numbers. Retired the side last time he took the mound. My best guess is Morehouse takes the mound Tuesday vs SFA. We shall see.

I confess - I just checked the score and saw that the Horns won. I spent the afternoon watching the Masters instead of baseball.
Getting the series win is good - keeps the team on pace to contend for the conference title. A couple of sweeps against the cellar-dwellers will help.

I had multiple family obligations over the weekend and only got to watch the highlights on youtube but reading game posts has been enlightening. Chop your post on Daly's catch after colliding with Faltine almost had me fall out of my seat.

This was a huge series for conference pecking order and keeps the Horns well in the mix. I am disturbed that Tristan has had two bad starts in his three conference outings and that has to change for Texas to have a chance even to get to Omaha let alone do something special. Ivan has made himself a ton of money coming back, Tristan, not so much if he doesnt turn things around.

This season started with three elite starters and a loaded bullpen with multiple options for mid week starter and emergency starter. Hansen has more than lived up to the elite level billing but there are lots of question marks at every other slot. Lucas had another very solid outing yesterday and he is definitely now a comfortable Sunday starter. While he is not at the level Texas had with Witt, Gordon would be a weekend starter on just about every other conference team so it isnt a massive dropoff and the Sunday starter question post Witt injury is definitely resolved. Lets see what happens with midweek merry go round this week.

Horns need to feast on the bottom of the conference for the next couple of weeks. I am not yet sold that WVA is a contender but we shall see. Ultimately I think they battle OU for fifth and for a fifth Big XII team in the NCAA tournament. I had hoped to be 6-3 after the first three series but 5-4 is more than acceptable expecially since it came against teams expected to finish in the top five of Big XII. April is proving time, last year Texas dominated this month and they need to do so again to lock up a national seed and play in Austin in June for a shot at Omaha.

I'm curious to see who pitches Tuesday as well after all the arms he used Sunday. And now I'm curious how he handles Tristan going forward, apparently there is a good scouting report out on him now or there has been a drop off in velocity and the latter would be more worrisome.

I'm not either, but we'll find out a lot more over the next 2 weeks (they play OSU at home and then Tech in Lubbock). The top 4 teams in the conference standings all play each other this coming weekend and somebody's got to lose some games.

Move him to Tuesday and replace him on the weekend with the all staff.
