TCU Joins Big 12

Powers and DeLoss have both said publicly that 6 yr assignment of Tier 1 & 2 TV rights are not a problem for Texas.

Welcome TCU and so long to you know who.

I'm not thrilled, but I'm also not all that concerned about the attendance issue. TCU had over 50k for Utah in 2009 and almost 48k last year for Air Force. For big matchups and rivalry games they will be well north of 40k and often sell out. The Big 12 gives them more opportunities for such games when Texas, Tech, Baylor, OU, and OSU travel to Fort Worth. Also, opposing fans will be a lot closer to FW than their current opponents in the MWC.

Great news. Now let's add BYU and Boise State, and one other (Louisville, WVU, Rice) if MU leaves, and be done with it. Very solid 12 and I would definitely take BYU and TCU over the Ags any day. Definitely a good first step but let's keep going and solidy the conference quickly; all others mentioned would likely accept an invitation if offered.

TCU is not a full replacement for aggie but it beats many other available alternatives. If Mizzou stays, this could be the end of conference shuffling. If Mizzou goes, then I think you get BYU and then discuss standing pat at 10 or going to 12 again.

It could be a lot worse than TCU . . .

Welcome Froggies.

Quality school. They are down this season, but that's to be expected after losing key players from their Rose Bowl team. Hopefully they'll continue to build their program.

well, here's hoping all ut fans are pleased with the joke of a conference your leaders have created.

the swc worked so well the first time it makes a lot of sense to recreate it. i'm pretty sure rice might consider making a move too.

I bet TCU is more a household name to most in the country than aggy is lately. TCU has been in the hunt and in headlines other than this realignment stuff. They are a more known name every time that Dalton plays in an NFL game too. Football wise there is no doubt that TCU is a bigger name. They also don't have the cheating resume that aggy does.

Their fan base is not full of weirdos like that of aggy. They are not embarrassing the way aggy is. They may not be an upgrade in all things considered but they are not a downgrade either. The AAU thing sucks but hey, our conference is not rife with AAU schools as is. Snicker, don't bring this issue up with BIG fans re: the Huskers. They would not have even been invited had they known that Nebraska would be kicked out the very first year they are in the conference. HAHA!!!

We get A&M their place in the AAU, so we will help TCU get there's too probably. Let's see if the aggies can stay competitive in the SEC and stay in the AAU.

I don't see how it is a joke. It's still the 2nd best football conference in the country. TCU has played in 2 BCS bowls and won one in the last 5 years? How many did Neb, Colo, or Aggy win or appear in combined?

We're talking about a team that just to Baylor and SMU and can't sell out their own stadium, definite upgrade.

TCU fields a competitive football team. TV audiences like a great competitive game. With regular games with Tech, OU, OSU Texas and Baylor, TCU can sell out home games and even Cowboys stadium if they want a big payday and don't mind losing home-field advantage. Even though TCU has better football and baseball teams than the Aggies, I wouldn't call this an upgrade. But as a DFW area resident, I like what that does for my opportunities to watch great college football games close to home.

I've never seen so much over reaction in my life. The sky is not falling and I'm guessing it's a great move for the State of Texas. We got more money than we know what to do with. We are getting a team more competitive than Aggy. We get to play an extra game on the road every other year at the hottest of hotbeds for recruiting in America in the DFW area. And TCU will update their facilities and add or even perhaps build a new stadium. With all the problems Aggies were causing I'd preferred we kick Aggy out of the Big 12 and add TCU. Who in their right mind would want to deal with all the Aggie crying. It was only going to get much worse too. This is not a bad thing and you're crazy if you think Aggie is a better product on the field than TCU has been. It's time to go to the new chapter and it is for the better.

I understand all the arguments against TCU, but I still like this move, for the following reasons:
- keeps our regional rivalries intact with Tech, Baylor Ok lite and ousux. And reactivates a rivalry with TCU.
- TCU also has a long history with Baylor, Tech and has had some very competitive and compelling games with OU in recent years. They will fit right in.
-TCU has had national exposure and a much higher overall record than the team they are replacing (aggy), including a Rose Bowl victory over a Big 10 team
- Another private school in the mix might make BYU feel more comfortable in this new Big 12.
- Solidifies our existing TV contracts (That's huge!)
-It is the first step in stabilizing the Big 12 which will in turn...
- Reignite negotiations for the LHN to be shown by more carriers. (As one of the lucky few who has the LHN - you will love it when you get it!)

When comparing TCU's on field success in the last 10 years to aggy - there's no comparison.-

There is one more thing TCU has that aggy does not that has been overlooked in all of this...

TCU is an upgrade only in the quality of their football and baseball teams of the last decade. Otherwise, they are just OK, since their stadium, TV market, and fanbase is small.
Fort Worth is certainly a better road trip than College Station, no one can dispute that. And the Frogs are in Texas, so the state is not opened to other schools recruiting efforts due to their addition.
If the Big 12 follows up with BYU, I think it will be a solid conference for the next few years, and may well survive.
But I do have one question: is TCU the first school to switch conferences before even joining that conference?

the fact that any school with any sort of options (except ut) wants out is pretty much proof positve it's joke of a conference.

the big 12 now invites a school in a tv market they already own that just drew 35000 for their big match-up with smu. nobody else who was the least bit attractive was interested.

and you and i both know the only reason tcu ever even sniffed a bcs bowl was the fact they played what amounted to a 2 games season.

please, they've already lost this year to baylor and smu.

So, aggy has not been relevant since the FedEx trucks left Collie Station, and meanwhile TCU has been building a nationally competitive program, has been to BCS bowl after BCS bowl, and jsut WON the Rose Bowl...and this is NOT an upgrade? I dont give a rats fat butt about how many people go to see that craptastic school in Bryan...they still suck. People chose VHS over Beta, but it didnt make VHS a superior product. Just because the masses go to it, doesnt make it any better. Im sure more people have eaten a McRib than have eaten at the Salt Lick. Does that mean that a McRib is better than the Salt Lick? This is just silly. TCU has baseball and football skins. Aggy has....well, see my sig.

I guess I have to eat crow because I said we would never add TCU because they bring no additional TV sets to the picture. Not thrilled about it in general, but have to admit I am extremely excited as a DFW resident that I can go see my Horns play on a regular basis without a long drive.

Why the **** do people care so much about TV rights? Are you on the LHN payroll or something?

"It makes absolutely no sense that Texas is going back to a SWC-style configuration that will bite deeply into Texas' television revenue."

Actually, it won't. Contract reneg takes absolutely jack **** away from Texas. We're the alpha dog, and even if the 1st/2nd tier stuff gets watered down and we lose a million dollars, we're still in better shape than almost anyone out there, especially with our 3rd tier firmly in hand.

And this isn't exactly TCU circa 1987. I remember days when Amon G. Carter had about 1K left in the stands in the 4th quarter when we'd beat them down. TCU has built a sustainable fan base through both alums and the DFW area. Sure, it's not A&M, but NO ONE IS ******* A&M. They're #5 in living alumni! Some of you need to get a grip about the numbers concerns.

When TCU plays OU, OK State, Texas, Tech, or even MU (should they stay), it fits the definition of Tier 1/2. People want to watch good football... not football in which the fanbase x exceeds the cents per HH of the carriers and providers.

Rant aside, I hate TCU fans. They're ignorant and have a disdain for those with knowledge of the game. On top of that, they get this gleeful sense of entitlement when Texas loses a game (like the national championship). I'd still rather be stuck with them than anyone else at this point.

TCU joining the Big XII isn't a slam dunk, but in baseball parlance, it's at least a double.

It's good news. A solid athletic program is added to the conference, not subtracted. TCU will have a much easier time filling their stadium with old rivals, rather than teams from the outer regions.

TCU coming into the conference gives the Frogs a much better chance of hanging on to Patterson. As long as he's in Fort Worth, the Frogs will be a tough out.

One big difference...TCU WANTS to be in the Big XII and WON'T be constantly whining about all things UT. Compare that to agricultural, and the corn before 'em.

If TCU (...and BYU, Louisville, and possibly AFA a bit later) stabilize the conference, it becomes harder for other conferences to raid it, and remains profitable enough to perhaps attract one or two attractive teams down the road a bit.

If the Big XII is stabilized for even two or three years, that buys time for the LHN to get on solid ground. IF UT needs to make a move, it's better to happen a few years down the road, rather than now.

I don't see any need to high five people because TCU's coming aboard, but I also see no need to gripe about it. It's a positive, not a negative, at a time when the Big XII desperately needs something good to happen.
