Super Regional Texas v. East Carolina

How do these fans learn to do Horns down in hootersville NC? I guess monkey see monkey do?

I've seen at least 3 printed t-shirt designs referencing Texas by name - one with a hand doing the horns down; one with the horns-sawed-off emblem sported by m&a and OU; and a third that I haven't been able to make out.

After Tanner Witt went down, I hoped we could find a 3rd starter.
Today, I'd settle for one good starter.

We used 2 starters from 2021 and gave up 13 runs.

Either Pierce needs to get new arms or new pitching coach for next season.

We're not done bc we can score but in a big hole now (to a directional school of hillbillies).

Campbell looked to be in position to catch the deep ball then Hodo came over and tipped it over. But one run made little difference.

I’d rather lose one game here than early in Omaha. Hansen didn’t have his stuff. Why?- I don’t know. Some great plays by others!

90% of Horns gave up on this team after the Kansas State series, but here we are 2 wins away from the College World Series!

I'm not giving up yet, but if Gordon doesn't go 7 and then exit with a 5 or 6 run lead then that sets up pretty badly for us. Then think about what we trot out there on Sunday, assuming we hang on to win Saturday.

Bottom line, with our lack of a bullpen, we needed this game today badly. Maybe we'll find a Johnny Sutton in the bullpen tomorrow and Sunday.
Or heck, maybe Skyler can pitch, a la David Maroul.

Hansen has been very inconsistent. He can pitchh a 3 hit gem and his next start give up 4 HRs.

8 runs should have been enough for a teams ace.

Yes, 2 wins away from Omaha or 1 win away from going home.

Next game is Gordo and our pen. If we get a 3rd game, a lot of 2 inning pen pitchers.

I am not optimistic

Pierce better hit the portal hard for pitching, and I know some that can be shown their way to the portal too to make room. Hate saying that about kids, but the pen has been an train wreck pretty much all year. And something needs to be done about pitching coaching, much of what I see appears to be mental.
Given the current state of college athletics and the pay for play game, no such thing as trying not to hurt someone's feelings. This is real world now with the kind of money being thrown around. Remember it now goes both ways. You take a scholly and if you get money too, get ready to produce or be sliced and diced. Horrible turn of events for the college sports world.

Hard to complain with the strikes and pitch count. Far too many walks by the team and at really bad times. We ran into a very hot hitting team much like some of the old LSU teams. Hansen pitching 75% strikes is fine, they just lit him up. Stevens getting lit up in the 8th was a killer for Texas as well. Some mentioned Pierce hitting the portal for pitchers. How about someone showing me any Texas pitcher that improved this year? The pitching coach should be shown the door. Good or bad, what do the stats say? This whole year has been a roller coaster. Start out #1 and fall like they did through the year and then come back to make a regional is not for the timid.

Yea, I also mentioned the pitching coach in my post. Aside from Hansen and Gordon, all I see is throwers, I don't see any pitchers. I'd love to see how many batters we have walked after getting to 0-2 and 1-2 counts and then I'd love to see how many hitters we've hit with those counts, and then tack on how many homers and grand slams we've given up with those counts. We don't have anyone in the pen that is the slightest bit crafty (Olivares is closest IMO) and can spot a pitch or sequence any pitches. That is all coaching. I have another theory that I've had since the eaTme game, but I'll hold on that until the season is over.

This ECU team is very hyped for this series. They are playing above their heads right now. Much like Texas tech did early in the season. Not anything new to Texas from years past but different coach back then. We will see how this team responds tomorrow and Sunday.

Ahh, the old "we're everyone's Super Bowl" excuse.

Unfortunately I had work commitments all morning and early afternoon and didn't catch a single pitch. Reading the posts it doesnt sound pretty but that is the beauty of super regionals you can have a bad day and still come back. The Horns lost game one and came back in both 2002 and 2005 the last two NC years, they also did it in 2018 for Pierce's first CWS appearance. Gordon needs to do what he has done all year, be the guy that stops the losing and rights the ship. The goal for tomorrow is just get to Sunday.

Friday reviews:

No. 9 Baseball drops Super Regional opener to ECU - University of Texas Athletics

No. 9 seed Texas falls to No. 8 seed East Carolina 13-7 - Burnt Orange Nation

We lost the first game against Ole Miss in the 2005 Oxford Regional, and the rest is history. We need to get someone from that team to give them a pep talk. Or maybe Augie left behind a hologram recording of himself, kinda like Superman's father Jor-El did, that could fire them up. :smile1:

Very busy day at the office and could not track the game.

Very sad to read the thread this evening....

Horns gotta regroup and refocus.

Just watched the game on tape delay.

Rough day for Pete, Tristan, and crew.

Bats were fine. Especially power hitting early on. 7 runs should be enough to win a game.

We’re still in it. Look for Gordon to take control tomorrow, which will set up a rubber match that nobody can accurately predict.

This is when Texas Longhorn baseball hero’s emerge, when your back is against the wall and someone steps up and surprises everyone. It’s time. :hookem:

2 errors in the first inning for the nations top fielding team. Our guys didn’t sleep well or something.

Silas saves the day!!!!

Gunned down the runner at third with a big lead off. Skye makes up for his bad throw earlier.
