After making it just fine through a final four football season, the website is busted by the Super Bowl?? Who said Hornfans aren't crazy for pro ball?Sorry for the website downtime folks. I'm in touch with my hosting vendor trying to find out what happened. They are usually very good.
Agreed. And my first thought was that we should have run that play in the Sugar Bowl. Seems like easy money. The end of the game encapsulated the virtues and deficits of Tony Romo. Right before the winning TD, he was mumbling some gibberish about saving timeouts for the second overtime. Then, when he was analyzing the replay of the TD play, he gave some excellent insights that really helped us understand why the play worked.
Interesting, Chris Berman almost picked the exact score-he picked Kansas City 23, San Francisco 20Final 25-22 Chefs!!
Sorry Dionysus had to deal with site downtime at a peak time.
In Shanahan’s defense, and I certainly think he blew the game by not running it more, his rationale there was that if the game was still tied after each team possessed it once in OT then the 49ers would start with the ball with the ball first in sudden death. So I believe his approach was semi-logical if you’re anticipating a long OT. But it didn’t work out because of course if the Chiefs went first then they would have punted on 4th and 1 from their own 35 at the start of OT and the 49ers would have won on a field goal.Going first in OT was the losing choice.
I heard the comment by Romo that maybe they wanted to rest their defense, but going second is the winning position. Each team had the ball once, each drove inside the 10. SF takes the FG instead of trying for the TD because it doesn’t know how many points it needs.
think about college OTs — no one ever chooses the ball first.
It was actually a nostalgic feeling back to the days before you had the website. The uptime and performance since you took over has been incredible. Much love!!Sorry for the website downtime folks. I'm in touch with my hosting vendor trying to find out what happened. They are usually very good.
I’m sure this has been discussed previously on another string but since I’m new… Did anyone ever, even slightly, anticipate that Mahomes would become a great NFL QB while he was at Tech? The guy just won this game pretty much single-handedly. They have a total of zero playmakers on offense outside of Kelce and they won the Super Bowl. Again. It seems unbelievable.
My wife asked me why Mahomes didn't play at UT. I did a little homework. On Rivals he was a 3-star high school QB and a very good pitcher (threw a 16 SO no-hitter). He apparently visited 12 schools, including UT. Only Rice, Tech and Houston offered. We signed Heard that year. And going back a few years we had signed Swoopes, Brewer and Ash. I believe 2014 was Charlie's first year. It's not like we were stacked with talent at QB at the time.
Texas was famous for missing out on QB's. Not sure what happened except maybe Mahomes was a classic late bloomer.
He visited Aggy and they didn't offer either.
Appreciate the feedback about Mahomes. I understand that we and others missed on him out of high school - and I get that. I’ve never heard of anyone else coming out of Whitehouse HS and I had to look it up to see that it’s an 5A outside of Tyler. But my question was really in regards to what he put up in college. Did anyone see him being a good NFL QB let alone multiple time SB MVP? He literally won that game yesterday with no playmakers other than Kelce. I think a fair comparison could be made between the skill position talent at Tech and the skill position talent on the Chiefs roster this season, relatively speaking. So if he wasn’t an all time winner with poor talent at Tech, how is he an all time winner with poor talent in the NFL? I’m trying to connect the dots and find out 1) why he didn’t win at Tech, and 2) what changed so that he can win now?Couple of things at play with Mahomes:
1. He wanted to throw the ball like 60 times/game, and truly only UH and TT could pretend that would be the case. Tech had Davis Webb and Mahomes wasn't even expected to back him up until it became obvious that they couldn't keep him off the field.
2. In addition to baseball, he was also all-district at DB. Texas, OK State, and Ark all had their sights set on him playing some version of safety if he committed. I think everyone knew he was a good guy and good athlete, but not fast enough for a skill position. With the coaching change in Dec-Jan of 2013-14, I think the new staff kind of packed up and moved on from Mahomes without trying to gauge his interest more.
