Stop Loss ( Hollywood in general)

A last point you can ignore like the other posts of mine:

Anyone can make a movie. Why not get investors together around whatever kind of movie it is you want to make? Surely some non-liberal would like to do a movie like you want, and it'll be a big money maker. You can do just like Mel Gibson did with the Passion of the Christ. Raise your own money and cash in without having to share with a studio.

If the box office money is there, you should have no trouble drumming up funding. There are bound to be some shrewd, non-lib businessmen who would see the possibilities in this vast untapped market.

I'm sure that if you can further convince your investors that your target audience is a perfect cross section of people who paid to see the enormously popular war movies entitled Team America, Top Gun, Independence Day, 300, Apollo 13 and Air Force One you'll be golden.

Strangely, however, nothing out of Hollywood. Why hasnt another studio attempted to duplicate its success? We all know how Hollywood likes to try to ape success. Why havent they copied this one?

This post regarding Passion of the Christ..actually, hollywood has. There have been quite a few religious picks that have come out...the one about the birth of jesus and the 10 commandments redo..i think they both bombed but i could be wrong...POC captured a nerve because it delt with the most important event in all of christianity.

I honestly never though I'd see the day where I would be told that the Bourne series was liberal propaganda and that liberals hate James Bond. I must be really confused because I like both series.

Strange though, why do you exclude`the Bourne numbers from your box office analysis? If Bourne is supposedly anti-American as you assert, shouldn't it be included in column b?

THE BOURNE SUPREMACY: $176,241,941
The Bourne Ultimatum: $227,471,070
The Bourne Identity: $121,661,683
(domestic)

Why not include Fahrenheit 911 which is one of the most successful movies in history?

All you are doing is picking and choosing movies that fit your argument. Seriously, you think that Transformer's success can be attributed to it's pro-military lean?

I think the whole point of "Team America World Police" was the neutral point of view mocking both the left and the right, hence the "***** and *******" metaphor ending. This supports Joe Fan's observation.

Weekend box office, for anyone looking for a late Stoploss rally. They are still running television ads as of today (Sunday) for it. The article I got these from (AP story) called Leatherheads a "soft" opening, at 13.5. IMDb stop carrying the Stoploss box office. Anyone know why?

1. "21," $15.1 million.
2. "Leatherheads," $13.5 million.
3. "Nim's Island," $13.3 million.
4. "Dr. Seuss' Horton Hears a Who!", $9.1 million.
5. "The Ruins," $7.8 million.
6. "Superhero Movie," $5.4 million.
7. "Tyler Perry's Meet the Browns," $3.51 million.
8. "Drillbit Taylor," $3.5 million.
9. "Shutter," $2.9 million.
10. "10,000 B.C.", $2.8 million.

Isn't there a Bruce Willis movie coming on the battle for Fallujah...? I seem to recall hearing about it, but Google yields nothing.

Are there really people on this thread trying to argue that Hollywood (at least in part) doesn't have a left wing agenda??? Seriously???

Every time one of these anti-Iraq War movies comes out and flops in stupendous fashion, I'm reminded of the quote about the definition of insanity: doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result.

The only explanation is that the filmmakers are so blinded by their hatred of all things GWB that they just can't help themselves. "This one will be different! This time the public will care!", I imagine they tell themselves.

But the bottom line is, most Americans -- regardless of how they feel about the war -- have no interest in shelling out their hard earned money to be hit over the head with a hammer-like message that their country is the root of all evil.

There is no other reason why a movie featuring the names Redford, Cruise and Streep wouldn't at least have a big opening weekend.
