And what's so crazy about someone picking Tech as their sleeper? That's exactly why it's called a sleeper: a team that's not getting a lot of hype that has a chance to be pretty good. It's not like the guy said that Tech was for sure going to win it all.
If it weren't for Hornfans, Matt Hayes wouldn't have a job. He writes stuff that pisses Texas off, and people post it here, it gets clicked on, and he's done his job.
The Stassen stuff is even more idiotic than the Hayes stuff. At least Hayes isn't hiding under the guise of weak statistical analysis. E.g. - was Notre Dame not profoundly overrated last year? Stassen's data shows them to have finished at expectation. Similarly, wasn't Texas profoundly underrated in 2005? We finished one spot above our rating according to Stassen. They're meaningless numbers.
Certainly not ours because we have nothing to do with it.
Him and his colleagues are the people that rank teams. Obviously they don't have a clue about what they are getting paid for.
If we start out next year in the top 10 then yeah, we're gonna be overrated. Any less than three losses and I'll be pleasantly surprised. It's a bad combination of inexperience, huge losses due to underclassmen leaving early, and a brutal schedule. May be rough.
Lat 22... quite frankly.. there might only be 4 to 5 teams in the historyof college football that could play with the 2005 Horns. No.. we aren't there this year and probably won't be. 2009 and 2010? Who knows.
what is funny is the most overrated teams of all time are basically the top ten football programs of all time. which goes to show you these teams will always begin the season ranked high based on tradition....
I would love to a be a sports reporter. You get to come up with the preseason rankings and then if a team doesn't live up to the expectations that you set, you claim they are underacheivers or were overrated; no accountability at all. If we do indeed become an "overrated" team this year based on sports writer's preseason rankings, who's fault is that, the team's or the writers' who misranked them to begin?
This is a year when yet again we will have to prove people wrong. When we had the superstars, people doubted us. Yet we keep churning in 10 game win seasons, winning bowl games and proving people wrong. Nobody can win an MNC every year. Some teams cannot even win BCS or bowl games hardly ever. Most teams don't even make one.
We had some key losses again this year in personnel. But we have talent provided it shows up on game days and they are allowed to be on the field. I am not expecting an MNC this year, I think most of us don't. A BCS? I would be elated to get a BCS bid this year. It is possible but I don't expect it. I do expect a good bowl game though and I hope I am pleasantly surprised.
I think these are rational expectations with room for more. I think if you asked our opponents they would not say we are overrated in the least.
