I was drafted in August 1970. Spent some wonderful beer-filled months in Baumholder Germany. I got out in March 1972 under Nixon's early out program.
When I got out, I remember that I got on a plane in South Carolina in class As but once I got on the plane I considered myself out out out of the army. I had packed civilian clothes in my carry-on and went back to the RR to change. When I stepped off the plane in San Antonio, I was in jeans and a pull over shirt.
