Sloan: Augustin would have gotten the call

The Link

Photo 6.

That is not a hack that is being butchered and any ref that does not call that foul should be out of the dance. Period.
Hell that could have been called an intentional foul.

Every foul that occurs at the end of a tight basketball game COULD be called an intentional foul. You can't make that argument when you're taking on three defenders all by yourself and you throw up a floater that quickly ends up on the floor somwhere behind you.

I wonder if some of you think that these officials just show up and call the games ... that there's no conversation before or during the game about what's going to be called and what's going to be left alone. You can't allow the players to assault each other for 39 minutes (which is essentially what happened) and then suddenly get whistle-happy in the final minute of the game. The way they called the end of the game was consistent with the way they called the rest of it, which means that was probably their game plan.

You can argue (and I would) that they under-officiated the entire game. But you can't single out one call, just because it was the last shot of the game for A&M, as being terrible without mentioning all the non-calls that benefited the Aggies prior to that.

they can let the body stuff go, but when they allow obvious hacking on the arms of a shooter, thats a ******* foul. we would be bitching something awful if that happened to ut.

UCLA got the calls. I think the luck runs out on them this weekend. I havent been that impressed with them of late.

If you go back and look at the photo #6 in my link you can clearly see that he has driven into the lane BETWEEN defenders. He was not initiating any contact. Both defenders in that photo are reaching across the shooter. One of them is hammering his elbow on his shooting arm and the other is literally grabbing, not hacking but GRABBING his wrist on his shooting arm. How that was not called is beyond me. That is absolutely as blatant as it can be and when you grab a shooter's arm to prevent him from scoring that should be intentional.

If we lose a game to Stanford or Memphis or what not this way, something tells me all the people yelling about whining Aggies are going to be whining quite a bit.

A foul is a foul. A bad call is a bad call. It cost the Aggies the game. Yeah, that's life. That doesn't mean people won't or shouldn't complain about it. Accepting mediocrity is how we ended up with these kinds of refs in the first place.

I realize many of you despise everything aggy, as you damn well should. Thus, we should all be happy that aggy lost, especially that they lost in an agonizing fashion. But any justification for the refs in this instance is absolutely delusional.

Awful call, and Sloan is right.

Nevertheless, if he wants to get a DJ Augustin call, then maybe he should become a better player. You get All-American calls when you're an All-American.

Lets talk about turdgon...does this guy whine more than any coach in history? He is not going to last in aggy land with his thin skinned behavior....dude was whining he was in a no win situation from the get go.....that guy is a loser

I think you're selling yourselves short. Augustin is an all american point guard on a very successful team. You ask anybody in the country who the best PG in the NCAA is and you're gonna hear either Augustin or Collison as the 2 big candidates. Sloan's point was that a big star would have gotten that call. Texas is a rival from the same conference, Sloan has played against Augustin several times, and the name just popped out.

He was wrong, though. I've seen a vid on youtube from yalls game against UCLA in LA and Augustin drove the lane at the end of the game and got tripped and then hammered in under the basket without a call. The difference is, he just got hit so he was still able to put up a shot that got tipped in. Shipp freakin grabbed Sloan's wrist while the other guy pushed on his elbow so he wasn't even able to do that.

On the other hand, there's Collison who gets stuffed on a legal block at the end of the game against Stanford and gets the call almost before it happened. That game was also in LA. I'm not advancing a conspiracy theory here, but they're getting good calls when it's a tight game. You saw it, stanford saw it, Cal saw it, and we saw it. It's definitely a pattern.

As far as making fun of Sloan, the guy buried his mother less than two weeks ago, then played his heart out in the biggest game of his life, but had the opportunity to tie it taken by cowardly refs. He's pretty beat up emotionally so refrain from posting anything nasty.

Yes.....intentional.

When you make an attempt to block the shot or make a play on the ball it is a foul.
When you grab a guy's jersey or arm when he is shooting that is intentional.
Why is that so hard to understand ?
