Sirius/XM bringing back OLD SCHOOL HIP HOP AND RAP

Let's describe the channels we miss and why so both sides can know. What was Left of
Center?

How can any XM fan complain, pay the extra $4/mo and you get NFL Radio and ALL the games!!!! I loved 66 raw and X Cntry but I will give them up for T Rock and NFL Radio all day long!!!

A few years I bought the lifetime subscription for Sirius (it was cheaper than the 4 year one). I really only listen to news and sports. I have enjoyed it as i can get the stations I wanted anywhere.

Sirius has some channels like Sinatra that I think I would listen to but I never do.

I think they changed the playlist of some Sirius stations, like Lithium. They used to play Soundgarden, AIC, Ministry, etc, now I just finished listening to Dave Matthews...WTF???

Although I have heard some of the same songs, I liked it better when it was Ethel and Squizz than I do as AltNation and Octane. I preferred Lucy to Lithium as well. Did all of the rock channels get brought over in their Sirius versions?

Just got to listen to it this weekend in the car.

The sirius stations seem to have way more talk between songs. I'm not a big fan of that - guess I'll get used to it

The Fred, Ethel, Lucy replacements seem pretty much the same. They also kept The Joint for good reggae.

Glad to get BBC1. Interesting that they delay the broadcast to East Coast time so when the DJ gives the time of day it is correct (at least here on the east coast)

Liked Area and Chill plus Hairnation for a little junior high flashback.

I've decided I really like Area. The format seems to have changed a bit in the merger. BUT, I seriously don't like BPM. The Beat was much better.

I never listened to BPM or the System or whatever the third electronic station was. Well, not ever but very rarely and only for a song or two. Area is solid. I do hope that they bring over John Digweed's weekly two hour show, Transitions. First hour he previews new songs and the second he features guest dj's in a set. Fanfreakingtastic it was.

There was also, Solid Steel, which was the Ninja Tune show. Coldcut, Skalpel, Hexstatic and crew.

The Move also had Red Bull on the Move. They would go to places where an event was gong on and record sets, interview dj's and promoters in that area, talk about what was going on there and their scene. Example: Milan, fashion week. They played a two hour set by Milly Demori and got insight on the vibe of Milan not just during the hype of fashion weeks. The clubs, the underground scene, up and coming artists/djs as well as established ones. They go into festivals and such in Italy.

They hit up major festivals and interview all sorts of dj's. Audiofly, Klos Stein, Scaret Etienne, just a few names featured from time to time.

I hope XM is able to share that with everyboy on Area, you won't regret it. I am stoked to have the Tiesto and other shows that come with Sirius. I think they got it right, barring some minor tweaking, in the Area. I hope this happens for other channels.

Reggae fans, the Joint has a great Dub show. I am not sure when it will air now or if it still does but check it out. Have a pen and paper handy.

I think it is funny that the Sirius people thin the XM dj's talk too much and vice versa. I guess we call this a draw.

I heard Animotion's "Obsession" on First Wave the other day. WTF? That would never hit Fred. That would go on the 80s channel that was more mainstream. Good song but it is not the Buzzcocks, the Fall, Bauhaus or something like that. Grrrr. They redeemed themselves by playing "Dear Prudence" by Siouxisie and the Banshees next.

BB1, cheers mate! That may be my favourite channel tied with Area at this time.

We all got hosed by no Backspin/The Rhyme. Send your courteous yet demanding emails so we can get one or the other back.

Sirius XMU and the Loft got new presets on my radio. Overall I don't mind the changes. Backspin was fun to listen to at times, though.

I don't like the new Sirius XM U that replaced plain old XMU.

They play entirely too much Radiohead, Spoon, and other more "established" bands tat should be more on Lucy than XMU. XMU was where I went to hear new stuff, not new stuff by established artists but new stuff altogether.

I swear to God I hear Reconker by Radiohead 5 times in about 2 days this week on Sirius XM U - that's unacceptable.

Fred and XMU lost a whole lot of edge. Much, much more mainstream now. I don't know if that was typical of the Sirius stations but it would not surprise me if it was not. I think that maybe the two companies think they can streamline and instead of having good 80s underground (aka REAL 80s) station and a more commercial or mainstream one they can just combine into one. Wrong. I am not going to listen to crap heard on a Retro Lunch on a terrestrial station for the occasional great song that I have not heard in awhile.

**** they would play at Polly Esther's does not belong on a Fred type station.

XMU(sed up) needs some improvement too.

Area and BBC1 have my attention the most on the dial at this time. I hit up Rawdog the comedy station and Real Jazz, Chill and The Joint. I am taking that Lithium and other Ethel/Lucy wannabe off the presets for now.

I like the all Soul and R/B. That will be added as a preset.

Mine will look something like this:

1. Willie's Place
2. 1st Wave (for now)
3. The R and B channel
4. BBC1
5. Area
6. Chill
7. Joint
8. Real Jazz
9. Fox Sports Radio
10. Rawdog

It was:

Willie's Place
Fred
Ethel
Lucy
The Rhyme
The Move
Chill
Joint
Real Jazz
Fox Sports Radio

I could easily bounce to XMU or the Verge and others from any of the big 3, Fred,Lucy and Ethel.

Could bounce from Rhyme to R/B and soul easily.

Ugh. I am not giving up. BBC1 is pretty solid but if I can get it online, I dunno.

I can assure your Lithium is not sucking due to XM influence. Our similiar channels shredded the crap they are pushing now. We thought it was Sirius but nope, it is the merger. They diluted these channels with crap.

XM channels kicked ***. Sirius channels kicked ***. The combo stations, not so much.

Maybe I am just hopeful but I do think that with rational and intelligent sounding feedback/criticism they still want to make improvements. I look at this as phase 1, hopefully, with more to come.

There are still open numbers close to these channels so maybe they are figuring out what dj's or talent they are keeping before opening the channels for better formats.

I will be patient and you are so right, a weaker satelite system at this time shreds terrestrial radio and their ******** hyped Hi-Def radio.

yep, it's the merger that has killed some of these stations. Even Classic Vinyl isn't the same. It was a kick *** classic rock station. now, not so much.

Send them emails, people.

I heard OMD's "If You Leave" on 1st Wave. You would have NEVER EVER heard that before on Fred, EVER. You would hear that on the 80s channel, 80s on 8 (Channel 8).

I now see what Hornian was saying about XMU. They played songs from two albums ago from bands that are hardly underground or new. Nothing novel about that station. No preset for that caca.

Folks, emails, now. Construct them well, however. No threats of cancellation at this time. That may come in handy later on in this process.

Did they have to get rid of channels (Federal) or was it their choice? Instead of 150 channels XM and Sirius each had, why can't they now have 300 (est)? Loyal listeners could enjoy their usual channels, and let listeners discover the new channels.

the satellites can't handle the bandwidth required for all "300" stations.

XM and Sirius are on different satellites that use different technology. Their current solution for now is to get rid of "redundant" stations and simulcast the same lineup to both XM & Sirius receivers.

It seems they are not combining anything but blending within genres. If you take Backspin and mix with The Rhyme you get great old school hip hop. What they came up with was nothing, no channel for old school hip hop and rap. Nada. That is not combining.

If you take two underground 80s stations and make them one station that plays top 40 songs in the mix, the same type of song also heard on the 80s channel, Channel 8...that is not a combination. It is an abomination.

Their merging of stations is crap. At least thus far but as stated in my other posts, I can be patient and am finding other things to listen to and enjoy. BBC1 is teets.

There is far too much talking over the songs. Was this always the way on Sirius? It is really pissing me off.

The playlists are worse on the old Fred, Lucy and Ethel and now they pretend they are commercial radio DJs talking over the music.

I'm really enjoying BBC1 and Area. Prime Country brings back memories and is much better than the old XM equivalent

pretty much all I listen to are BBC1, Area, Rawdog and the comedy channels, Willies Place (old school country) and Real Jazz. I don't even bother with the Calcium, Fiber and Lithium channels, whatever the **** they call them.

For sure I don't bother with the U station since there is nothing unique about it at all.

I am going to give it a couple of more months to fix itself. I can pick up BBC1 online and on podcast as well as shows being available online for a week after broadcast.

Satellite may be on its way out for me, we'll see. As I said, I am going to give it some time. I am not enchanted at this moment.
