EDIT: Info on Backspin (old school hip hop and rap on new post)

Turned my XM on tonight like I usually should not do when about to go to sleep or try to pretend to go to sleep. Wait, where is Fred, my 80s station? WTF? Where is this and that?

I see that The Move is now Area. There are more comedy stations, many more news and info. YAY, NPR Radio AND XM Public Radio.

I am listening to BBC1's show, Experimental. Wicked electronic hosted by a British lass with an ever so sexy voice, duh.

I am going to miss some stations and specials and love others, I just know it. I am liking what I hear so far but it will take some getting used to. I am sure the same is gonna go for you Sirius peeps. So let's give it time, open our minds and realize we needed this for our medium to survive and now beat up on boring assed, tired commercial radio and the joke of Hi-Def radio.

Wow is my dial loaded!!! Good times. No excuse for y'all waiting to pull the trigger before. I am enthused, heh.

My presets better not be screwed up.

I'm glad they did. I used to have Sirius before getting a new car w. XM. XM never had a good alternative to Spectrum and Coffee House. Now they are on XM

BBC1 is a nice addition too....

If I get this service, will I be able to listen to Longhorn sports? and Major League Baseball?

As far as I can tell, they haven't merged sports other than the NBA. So MLB is till on XM and college sports is on Sirius, with the exception of a few random games that end up on XM every now and then.

X County is gone, which does not sit well with me.

Also, XM241 used to be the Big 12/UT channel. This morning i saw that the only Big 12 channel was XM231.

I heard X country was gone as well. I guess the suck does stop hear. X country and Willies were the only reason I had XM. What I liked about Cross country so much was all the regional bands out of Texas and Oklahoma I could listen to out here in El Paso. I simply refuse to listen to this boy band crap they call country out here. This sucks, sucks, SUCKS.

I just sent those ******* yankees from Sirius an email letting them know how much they ****** up. I listened to some of the crap they played today and most of it was country music from 30 years back, which I don't mind but I could always flip over to Willy's if I wanted to listen to the old stuff. Please everyone as pissed off as I am go to the sirius web site and post your gripe as I have. This really sucks and if enough of us complain maybe we can get them to change, but I doubt it, after all, they are all ******* yankees.

Willie's Place is the only type of country music I will listen to so I am glad that is still there.

Fred, Ethel and Lucy kicked a bunch of *** and Fred was superior to 1st Wave as it was more underground. But 1st Wave is okay so far, no big deal, I guess. I hope they have a show like One Revolution Around the Sun that profiles a year in music, movies, news and stuff each Thursday.

The Move, the House and Electronic (that is not Trance and too clubby) music is replaced by Area . So far so good but I hope they will still have John Digweed's "Transitions" and shows like that. I won't miss Luis Baro's shows, however. I hope there is a Drum n Bass show on Sirius' input to this.

It sucks that BPM is what XM kept to share. I think Sirius folks got the short end of that.

What is this "Backspin" show or channel? What was the genre?

XM did not carry over THE RHYME which was hip/hop from its inception through the 90s...The Golden Era, so to speak. Damn that was an awesome channel. I hope they bring it back as I have not found anything close to it yet but I am still tinkering with it.

I am sure they are listening to feedback both positive and negative and will tweak it accordingly. I don't think we should overreact just yet. There are some growing pains to be had.

The Sirius dj's talk too much so far too. Not near as much as commercial radio dumbasses but much more than the XM ones did. I hope this changes. I also hope Rick Dee's show is not brought over. Annoying.

Noticed that this morning on my drive back home at 5am.

All of a sudden I no longer had the CBC 3 station. Oh well.

So I still don't know whether to get this or not. From what I can tell, Sirius and XM merged, but yet they haven't, as far as sports go.

Somebody, please, help me to understand this.

Texanne,

Basically they merged some music channels where they had duplicates. They looked at what sirius had and what XM had picked what they thought was the best. As for sports which is what most people care about you'll have to pay extra as an add-on.

funny loop, I find the XM dj's to talk too much and have too much filler in between songs. Eh, it will take getting used to.

I miss The Beat since it's been replaced by BPM. Area sounds good, looks like they're incorporating more from XM since it sounds a little different.

I think the XM 60's on 6 sucks compared to 60's Vibrations on Sirius. I'm just glad they kept Classic Vinyl as the classic rock station.

All in all, I'm getting used to it all. I'm sure each side has their gripes right now.

bpm is weak and i am sure that The Beat was better. Xms Fred was better than 1st Wave but they are close enough. area rocks so far. rap is far lacking but will surely improve. i am still excited. the whole picture goes beyond one or two channels.

Losing Backspin (old skool rap) was absolutely devastating. I just sat there staring at my radio for about 5 minutes trying to figure out what the **** was going on.

It was my second favorite channel behind Lithium.

They took away your Backspin AND our The Rhyme?!? Hells to no.We have to let them know we want old school stuff back. I don't care which one but something.

I'm not mad but I am sending an email to express my diddain.

I'm not too happy with it. Just flipping around the dial, the merged lineup seems much more like commercial FM radio than XM was before the merger. Lithium and Altnation suck compared to Lucy and Ethel - ithey are like any other alternative radio station. The Rhyme being gone is an abomination, probably one of the 2 or 3 stations I listened to the most. They also went from 4-5 spanish stations to only one. I'm thinking about getting rid of it.

The stations I listened to the most were (in no order), Fred, Ethel, Lucy, The Move, The Rhyme, XMU, Chill, The Joint, Willie's Place and Real Jazz. The other preset was Fox Sports Radio.

I am hoping the new replacements for any of the above will be at least satisfactory. It seems to me that Sirius was for people less discriminating about underground or less commercial music in some genres. They seem to have been more invested in modern country than XM was.

I think we have the same type of comedy stations. But I am going to miss Fred but moreso, The Rhyme.

As I stated earlier I am hoping and feel confident this is only phase 1 of maybe a few phases to get it right. The Sirius clan is a bit put off too for their own similiar reasons. I hope the changes or updates come quickly and are truly a response to their listeners, while we remain.

I listened to the Rhyme more than any other station at work. I am not inclined to take my radio with me to work at this time. This will change and get better, right? Somebody tell me this is true.

Im also pissed about XL Rhyme being gone. HipHop nation just isnt the same.
I didnt notice a difference between xLsquizz and the merged Octave so im ok with that.
Im also happy to see they left Willies place alone.
