Shell buys Russian oil at a discount

Musburger,

Yes, the US did "bad things" to Chavez and Venezuela all the while the US Navy was buying MDO which originated in Venezuela, passing through three hands into the ships at Charleston.

FWIW, that's how I came to realize that the western most spot in South America is the same longitude as Charleston, SC.

They are not mutually exclusive, right? I mean a smart approach would be to both expand oil production as much as possible in the US while also continuing to foster the growth of renewables and other economically friendly alternatives.
Agreed.
I see the issue is Biden and friends are only doing part two of your suggestion. We don’t need ego to get in the way of doing the right thing at a critical time. Ego or companies getting rich on this Go Green iniatitive.
I had the pleasure of being on a conference call with the CARB folks in CA. I was shocked at the level of lunacy presented in that meeting.
A company ran with the decision making I heard on that call would be bankrupt in no time.
Those people can ban products, based upon obviously skewed information and lose tax revenue and jobs to neighboring states.. who are happy to sell to border crossing Californians.

How about an appropriate description of what is going on here?

like "The battle of Waterloo was won on the posting fields of Hornfans?"

Agreed.

Isn't this a place for capitalism to step in and increase local oil supply?

Oil supply in the US is heavily influenced by the price. At it's current prices you'll see more oil coming from Texas and North Dakota. If it drops you'll see the local oil rigs reduce their output. That's Capitalism on display.

"Isn't this a place for capitalism to step in and increase local oil supply"

President Joe Biden on his first day in office restored the climate cost estimate to about $51 per ton of carbon dioxide emissions, after President Donald Trump had reduced the figure to $7 or less per ton,” the report noted. “Trump’s estimate included only damages felt in the U.S. versus the global harm previously used by President Barack Obama.
Plus Biden shut down oil and gas lease sales from the nation’s vast public lands and waters in his first days in office and is trying to extend it including ANWAR.

Biden’s Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) reinstalled regulations that restrict domestic energy production, including gasoline and heating.

Last month the EPA announced new regulations for methane emissions from oil and gas production, transmission, storage, and distribution. The American Petroleum Institute estimated that the Democrats’ desired ban on oil and gas development on federal lands would cause nearly 1 million Americans to lose their jobs, and cost the U.S. $500 billion to import gas. Resurrecting the “Waters of the United States” rule that limits how farmers and ranchers can use their land.

Biden vows to prohibit fracking. WTF?
Psaki said there are 9,000 leases that are not being tapped.
Those leases mean nothing “if permits aren’t approved” and/or the process is being drastically slowed by the “myriad [of] other delays the administration puts in the way of American producers.
Is every lease actually able to pump oil? There many other reasons a lease is dirmant
That is a BS answer.

Bubba Do you not understand capiitalism vis a vis Oil/gas in your own state

The market will increase supply of oil to meet demand at the new prices if governments don't intervene to stop it.

1) Hard core enviros want the cost of gas at the pump to skyrocket in order to force us to alternatives. They are anarchists and do not care about our wallets. They are in the long game and they are in power behind the scenes. Think of my mother on fixed income who just had her rent increased by $300 per month. Think of her and her gas bill at the pump. Think of her and her electric bill due to the increased costs to generate electricity. And think of your loved ones in similar situations.
2) Drill more, become energy independent. Then we can chisel back to renewables. The benefit is huge: We won't have to attack ME countries or at least dance with them (Saudi's) and we won't be leveraged by Russia or anyone else. Europe can go F themselves if they want. Or go straight renewables and nuclear. It's their choice.

Ok now By
Common sense and reality aren't appreciated by progressives.
One point you made needs repeating.
EVERYONE including oil companies agree to keep exploring all options for renewables
BUT why punish everyone while finding new sources and ways?

The left hates the use of fossil fuels, so while they will bemoan high gas prices with crocodile tears, it really is what they want. Their hope is it gets people like me who see "green" initiatives as BS to acquiesce to the "future".

hic
I truly doubt any leftie thinks they can turn You to their way of "green"
Really? They seem to think they can. No matter, though, they will just pound the fact that see we are having to rely, well because of Biden's EOs, on foreign oil. This is why we need green energy domestically blah blah blah.

I don’t think they cry anything - although they may put on a sad face for the camera they’re cheering inside their closets.
I though that what was what crocodile tears meant lol. But I'm an airline pilot who got hit in the head a lot back in my karate teaching days.

HIC,

Wait until they find out the truth about the Russian oil "ban" if they ever do. I only say "if" because the people in charge kept the Venezuelan embargo under wraps, but those people were about two evolution cycles smarter than Biden and his Bozos

Haha, Hornin, I think of crocodile tears as when one of my grandkids has those huge singular tears rolling down their perfect cheeks.

Why not? The US can revert to 1950s emission standards and still not produce 20% of the crap the China is doing now.

Well Shells CEO apparently agrees with me.
“We are acutely aware that our decision... despite being made with security of supplies at the forefront of our thinking — was not the right one and we are sorry," he said.
Sorry he was caught.

NR,

You seem like a nice guy, and hope you stay around HornFans for a long time and never learn the truth about the oil patch. What just happened is that the price of Russian oil just went up $500,000 per tanker for payoffs at Novorossiysk. It has been $300,000 but will now escalate.

No, Shell will not buy "Russian oil", nor will other major refiners. They will, however, buy oil from third parties, who buy from "X", who buy from "Y", who buy from "Z". Each owns the oil for a fraction of a second. Nobody wants to know where it came from originally, particularly the United States government and military.

I shall applaud the Dutch if they are able to cut a deal with the Saudis, but with Motiva now being 100% Saudi owned, that may be difficult. BTW, I think Royal Dutch Shell moved out of Holland to London.

I hear you Sabre, I think I’m just really frustrated watching these people get killed, while “we stand with Ukraine “. Geez - they don’t need us standing with them, they need us kicking that Russian weak *** army’s ***.
I am no superhero nor a warmonger-but I think it’s the weakness the US leadership has shown and as a Marine rifleman- I’m stunned that we don’t stand up to this bully.
Am I the only one convinced Putin will fold if we (NATO) gets in the fight?
If my tv was black and white, I think I’d check my calander to see if this is 1939

Am I the only one convinced Putin will fold if we (NATO) gets in the fight?

Well, might be among those who do not fear Putin going nutso and launching a few (or more) nukes just for grins,,,,,,but there are lots who do.

You are correct about our "leadership" or lack thereof. I have said for decades that the only person in the world that Vladimer Putin is afraid of was George Herbert Walker Bush, and when he dies Putin is coming. He bought the Chinese by "giving" them Taiwan and Korea. He took over the Mafia, which controls the ports.

In the meantime, the idiots in Washington are so afraid of low diesel MDO, that the Navy is forced to buy from anybody selling.
