Shaka

I second this.
I acknowledge the point. It just (to me) is a distraction. Popovich has been ranting for a few years now, but he's got titles in his pocket (none lately). As I said, I'd be of the same mindset if it was a conservative coach who came out on a pro-gun rant and then failed to produce over the years. He may have just done it once and then got a talking to, but it's out there. Like if Sark came out and said "I just don't know how the team is going to handle Biden as POTUS, but we'll try to go forward".

If you say it once and move on then it's not a distraction.
Herman created a distraction.
Not Shaka.
You just can't quit crying about it. ;)

Looks like somebody will be living rent free in your heads for a LOOOOOOOOOONG time...

Thankfully though it'll be free to UT as well since he left on his own.

Between flushing He-Man down the sewer, and getting rid of Shocka-Con for free, CDC has done a great job clearing out dead wood.

And does each one of those beer taps represent a first round exit for a Shocka-Con team?

Yes. He said it once, then never got political again. I can live with that. He doesn't have to be in political agreement with me as long as he isn't always up in my face about it.
But he ought to STFU about it. How would you feel if other people in other jobs spouted ******** like that?

What?
Stupidest thing I've ever read.
I've literally sent a mass email to my entire company asking them to quit sending me emails filled with their political opinions.
Only to have the owner tell me, "Well, you know, freedom of speech".

I don't know. The "trolls" part of that headline seems inaccurate. Why wouldn't a basketball coach love coaching at basketball crazy place? Texas IS far from basketball crazy.

Most larger companies I know of will not allow mass emails with political or religious content. Sure, you can send it but be prepared for a company response.

I know many of you are still sore that Shaka dumped us for a basketball school up North. Don't feel bad. Beard is also a great coach, and we'll be bound for the Final Four in no time.

Probably. If this Beard thing is just an April Fools joke, then we should still pursue him. Who else are we going to get?
I think Sabre was commenting on your comment about Shaka ditching us.

Chop,

I thought Shaka was going to dump us because all that coaching talent was headed to the NBA. He's not a top 15 coach. Those on this board touting the "he's a nice guy/class guy" bs obviously have given up on actually winning a lot of games. That's Charlie Strong talk. All that aside, the 2016 interview about Donald Trump being elected had me done with Shaka immediately.
Saying he was concerned for his family and his players, Texas men’s basketball coach Shaka Smart said the results of the presidential election felt like “a slap in the face” to him and some of the Longhorns.

Smart’s comments came after he discussed Texas’ 78-73 win on Friday at the Erwin Center. A coach with a wide array of interests didn’t hold back when asked his thoughts about Donald Trump.

“When someone who is elected who has a history of being hateful, of being racist, of being sexist, of saying certain things that are derogatory toward a certain group, it feels like a slap in the face,” Smart told the American-Statesman.

“That’s how some of those guys felt,” he added. “But you know what, we’re going to have to move forward. They’re not going to do another election. It is what it is and we have to respond the right way.”

Here's my take. As soon as he said this I knew he went against this Longhorn battle cry: "The pride and winning tradition of The University of Texas will not be entrusted to the weak or the timid". It's a dodge if you start talking about who won an election. My immediate thought was "Dude, there's all-black teams in this country that are somehow going to be 27-5 going into the big tournament in spite of Trump being president, and if you're worried about an election, then you're already making excuses for any loss, any efforts not resulting in a deep run in the tournament".

And I would say the same thing if there was a white coach who was constantly spouting NRA or All Lives Matter and the team was in the toilet. Start bringing politics (see my buddy Tom Herman) into the mix and you're not going to produce because it's obvious there's something weighing on your mind that's not about the sport you coach.

I'll say it again for all of you apologists/fans of Shaka/Charlie/etc. The goal is to win. Start talking about your off the field rules for the team/no guns/blah blah or Donald Trump or crap on the EOT, your head is not in the game and you're not long for this university.
When he made those comments after Trump was elected, I knew he was too dumb to coach at Texas. I was 100% right.
