SEC

Bob Bowlsby is a smart, honorable, honest, forthright, and wonderful rep for the B12. Just because he takes an opposing position on a issue.....doesn’t change that. I believe he has some justifiable points to be made in his role. I hope that both he and the B12 survive and flourish. Texas/OU in the SEC doesn’t change that. There is enough to go around.

Agree Flash. Bob Bowlsby is an honorable man.

Too complex for that idiot in the Big XII commissioner's chair to wrap his head around.
This is not the issue. Be assured that Texas/OU is working internally to bring the B12 to the inevitable conclusion they must eventually face.

Of course, Texas/OU support a GOR buyout well before 2025. It would be a win for Texas/OU and a win for the remaining 8 institutions that desperately hope to remain relevant with a new TV contract or a move to greener pastures.

Oh, I agree with you, Zig. I have learned from Sabrehorn never to underestimate Bowelsby's ability to screw up any deal more complex than a two car funeral, and to screw up two car funerals about half the time.

A "Remaining 8" realignment from the Texas Tech perspective. Could Tech, OSU, KSU, and UH be the next Pac12 expansion?

I have seen so many takes on realignment that it's impossible to keep track. But there is one constant: Baylor is the least desirable institution.

Nobody wants Baylor with their hate-based doctrine and hypocritical actions.

Pac-12, ACC and Big Ten announce historic alliance
Help me understand this new Pac-12/Big10/ACC Alliance? Reading between the lines my take on this is that they are boycotting future scheduling with the SEC? And that they will in the future only schedule other schools that are in the alliance? They mention they will comply with current contractual obligations, meaning they will play any SEC school they have currently scheduled but nothing beyond that? They also appear to be saying that they do not intend to expand and are therefore not interested in any of the other Big 12 schools. If this is correct it pretty much solidifies the fact that Texas and OU will not be able to get out of the Big 12 before 2025. Unless of course they want to pay the $60-70m penalty for leaving early which I don't see happening.
These guys are playing hard ball and this is getting nasty!!
Short on details but long on philosophy, alliance of Big Ten, ACC, Pac-12 sends message to SEC: Back off
In this second article Sources quote:
Sources reiterated that the 41 schools comprising the Big Ten, ACC and Pac-12 wouldn't "boycott" the SEC and stand directly opposed to it, but their foremost goal would be to pursue "their own interests".
The Alliance conferences obviously believe the SEC is getting a little too big for it pants? Appears there is a storm a brewing!

I don't see paying the penalty happening either. As for the rest, we can agree to disagree. I think the Alliance has the opposite effect on the Remaining 8. The pressure those 8 ADs must feel from their fans must be insane. What is our future? What are you doing to fix this? How do we convince a 2022 recruit to consider us with all this uncertainty?

I do think that Texas/OU would agree to contribute a small portion of what ESPN/Fox still owe them under the present GOR to grease the skids for a negotiated buyout. In return, Fox might agree to a modest TV contract for the New Big 8. That may be all the Big 8 can realistically achieve if they are spurned by the Alliance.

Certainly no shortage of realignment speculation.

Spoiler Alert: John Kurtz is not convinced.

Big 12 Expansion: Things to Watch For This Week

Cedric Golden of the AAS opines:
"The new Big 12: The Big 12 made some nice picks with the reported additions of Cincinnati, BYU, Central Florida and Houston. Question is, when are these schools coming?

It would make the most sense for the league to arrive at an agreement with outgoing Texas and Oklahoma after this season so all parties — the Big 12, the SEC, ESPN, etc. — can get on with their lives and make the future happen as soon as possible. In other words, make this the last season we see this version of the Big 12. No one likes a lame duck, let alone two. The grant of television rights agreement is set to expire in 2025, and Texas and Oklahoma would face fines of $80 million each if they left before next season, but that’s what the lawyers are for. The sides should hammer out an agreement sooner than later. Make it happen.

Amicable works better than animosity at this point. Why go through a divorce and be forced to live with the person who no longer loves you?"

BYU, Cincinatti and Houston have all announced becoming a member of the Big 12 with UCF planning their announcement this afternoon

Yes, BYU to begin competing in all sports in Big 12 in 2023. Cincinnati, Central Florida, & Houston to begin competing in Big 12 by 2024.

If Texas and Oklahoma remain through 2025, it could be 14 teams in Big 12, unfortunately BYU, Cincinnati, Central Florida, and Houston don't add much to women's basketball.

Hopefully they're gone by then.

Totally agree! I keep wondering how and when we're going to see an alternative exit plan that allows OU and Texas to leave within the next couple of years. I just don't see us actually putting the move off so far. I bet attorneys are working on something now.
