SEC Tournament

True. But getting down by 19 points made it impossible for a comeback when you don't have the 3-point shot as a consistent part of your offense.

Well there is no one on this team that can be relied on to be a threat from 3 for it to be a consistant part of our offense. Yeah yeah Holle can make a 3 now and again. But this is the time of year she disappears offensively. And Lee is hesitant to shoot most of the time.

So its the mid range and inside game for us. Shots were there we just couldnt hit them.

Perhaps next year there will be a certain guard that isnt afraid to put it up and we can have the 3 as an integral part of our offence.

I read your post. OU was not able to make a comeback despite their consistent three point attack and the 15 made threes in their game against South Carolina. Interestingly enough, Duke overcame a 14 point deficit despite only having one more three than NC State. You responded to a post about threes not being the reason we lost. I agree with that post and don’t agree that not having a consistent three point shot as part of your game makes it “impossible” to have a comeback. It might make it harder. It also might not be a factor. But impossible… nah.

OU doesn't play defense like we do. South Carolina also shut down Raegan Beers yesterday as she only scored 7 points. Lack of an inside game against South Carolina is never a recipe for victory.

OU scored eleven 3-pointers against SC, not 15. They were 2-15 in the first half, and down by 17 points. In the second half, they shot 9-18 from behind the arc. Their 3-point shooting is what kept them from losing by 30 points.

Holle scoring 1 point today in the 39th minute and 0 points against LSU is not good for a fifth-year senior. That lack of offense gets exposed when Booker and our inside game struggle.

Agreed, and it actually helps to create the struggle in the first place. They can throw two and three defensive players at Booker when they don't have to worry about the other perimeter players hurting them. For us to go deep into the NCAAs, Holle (or SOMEBODY) is going to have to shoot the ball like she did at Mississippi State. I'm hoping this two-week break will give us our legs back.

I thought this game would be difficult for UT to win. When you have two really difficult close games on consecutive days , a Rory and Madison get very little, or no rest, it's hard to have legs to play a third consecutive day against a very good SC team. And this was essentially a home game for them. I hope they don't have this tournament in Greenville every year. Its like Oklahoma's advantage in the college women's softball championship every year.

This is the flawed offense I was talking about. Not having Aaliyah Moore puts even more pressure on this flawed offense. Shay Holle not being a reliable scoring option is a big problem. The tournament is all about matchups and this Texas team could be going home early depending on who they play.

And this is when Vic has to sit holle. When she is not making her shots and getting beat on defense, she needs to go to the bench. For the semifinal and final, she could not hit any of her shots and she keep getting it beat on defense, which caused our posts to rotate over later and catch fouls. That’s why we were in foul trouble a lot against LSU. The teams were getting her in at the top and expected her to defend one on one against quicker athletic guards and they keep blowing past her. I’m like.. VICCCCCC COME ONNNNNN, I know you see this!!! He has to get Preston in the game much earlier.

The SEC just signed on for three more years in Greenville, SC, so 2026, 2027 and 2028 tournaments will be there.SEC Announces Extension with Greenville as Site for Women's Basketball Tournament | Greenville Business Magazine
Yep... it's the money that location brings in from the ticket sales to South Carolina fans. It's unfortunate that they don't move the tournament around some. Atlanta, Birmingham, Little Rock, Memphis, or St Louis would all be more neutral.

When you're right, you're right... and you're spot on here. But coming to this board just to take digs at our program (out of your bitterness) will never be well-received.

“Again, I’m proud of my group. One quarter, one game certainly doesn’t define our season, who we are or what we put together. I don’t think anybody’s going to evaluate us on one quarter. This team is 31-3. They have earned their way. They have been through the gauntlet and survived it and come out on the positive side of it.” - Vic Shaefer

(Clearly he hasn’t met some of the posters on this board.)

:rolleyes1:

11 instead of 15. My bad. OU shot 11 threes. I guess it’s impossible to make a comeback even with a consistent three point game. No wait.

Fun memory - at least for me - in ‘08, we were down 16 to Baylor in the B12 quarterfinals. We came back and won by 15. It was the largest comeback in the history of the B12 women’s tournament. It was thrilling to watch. Goestenkors told her team at half that they were going to make history. During that comeback we scored a single trey. We had three the whole game.

Harder? Sure. Impossible? Nah.

Really, I’m not disagreeing with you. Im
Just pointing out that while we all love an outside game, you actually don’t have to have a consistent three point game to win consistently. And I replied because it’s a common complaint (?) on this board and has been for years. I’m one of the few (I think) who still loves a good inside game.

But something tells me that once again I didn’t read your post correctly. Seems to be a problem of mine.

What’s really great about the ignore button, maybe the best thing about the ignore button, is that you can use it to ignore me too. And it doesn’t prevent any of us from posting whatever we want. :smokin:

Even though I used the button, I have a sneaking suspicion that a tree fell in the Pacific Northwest recently. If we’re lucky, it fell on a certain poster

Laila was supposed to be our big scorer this year. So, when she went out, I expected Jordan to be coached up. She had some pretty impressive games against OK, AL, and Vanderbilt, then just disappeared in the last 6-7 games. Her and Shay's defensive skills are great, but if teams are smothering your other scorers, there's got to be another plan. Vic really needs to pivot and coach some offense. Everyone knows how to play Texas now. He's got to have some surprises during the NCAA Tourney.

Agree. But in his defense he tried a hell of a lot of lineups and plays yesterday. He even had Oldacre in with Jones at one point. He mentioned recently that he put the team into a zone and they asked to go back to man. And a few games back we all heard him say that Lee had the green light.

Sometimes it’s hard to see the forest for the trees, but in this case we are only seeing the trees I feel. Our field goal percentage is top 30 (29), better than LSU and USC to name a few and our scoring offense is top 20 (16) , better than UCLA, and our winning percentage is #3 in the nation and (tied) number 1 in the SEC.

This team has been an enigma all year for me. What we are on paper never seems to match up to what we look like on the court.

AP Top 5 almost the entire year and Net 3 consistently. I can’t explain it. The whole is more than sum of our parts?

But boy howdy do I love this squad :beertoast:

Speaking of Laila could you imagine if she and Moore were well?

It's remarkable that this team lost a 1st team all-conference shooting guard and a second team all-conference forward and we're still one of the best teams in the nation.

USC only has three 3pointers.
Three point shooting is not what cost us this game.
The lack of outside shooting did cost of this game. If you notice sc started playing us in zone dating us to shoot. They were packing the paint hence we only got 18pts in the paint. The were helping off of our “shooters” .. Booker was getting doubled and tripled teamed majority of the game.

I thought it was just me but I noticed that Lee has been hesitant to catch and shoot as well.

Our defense as a whole is great, but in our system, it is a major problem when fast guards drive to the basket. Since we use such pressure at the top, it is hard to move feet fast enough to stay between their guard and the basket. Lately, there have been a lot of good driving guards on the other teams. And it all happens too fast to expect someone to rotate over. Holle has had trouble with this, but so has everybody else at times. You just give this up when you play our style of pressure defense up top.
