SEC Tournament

Disappointing to be such a flameout. Every team will play us like LSU and S.C. - ignore outside shooting and maul the bigs. Taylor and Kyla have to make shots with defenders hanging on their arms. We are usually more athletic and skilled than our opponents, but we could have similar struggles in the tournament.

FWIW, Think Dawn is the best women's coach ever, will be considered better than Pat and maybe Geno, eventually.

Perhaps if we have Aliyah Chavez shooting from outside next year, we'll fare better.

Aliyah Chavez would definitely be a huge plus if we are able to sign her!!

Greenville is about the same distance from S.C., Tenn, Ky, Ala, Georgia, Vandy .. so it's sort of centrally located
So central to six teams out of 16. It the farthest distance possible from Texas/OU/A&M/Arkie/LSU. Seems legit 😂

At this point I’d rather put it in New Orleans and give the swamp witch a “home” game a few years, just to even things up for a while.

In the ensuing days, I hope Vic comes up with some offensive plans. Some screens and guards going to the basket would be a nice start.

The same SC Texas beat once this year? And the same LSU Texas beat twice? Cool. Bring it.

Greenville is about the same distance from S.C., Tenn, Ky, Ala, Georgia, Vandy .. so it's sort of centrally located. Arena is good, too, not too big, good parking and hotel access. Bon Secours is a hospital system located in Greenville and a couple of other locations in S.C. I worked there in the '90s, when it was St. Francis.
Absolutely, totally sour grapes on my part. But why did the SEC schedule the SC home conference tournament game in Greenville? A "wink-wink" reward for SC's consecutive NCs? A "welcome to the SEC" for OU and Texas?

It's like when NCAA scheduled the volleyball Final Four in Omaha, Nebraska. Mmmmm, I wonder whose fans are going to flood that tournament?

Score by quarter.

SC 12 21 19 12 - 64
TX 10 6 17 12 - 45
Not converting point blank baskets in the first period definitely didn’t help. That continued in the 2nd period plus sloppy play widened the lead.
Give SC credit, they played like champions today.
SC wanted to avenge their loss to Texas and send a message while doing it.
Tough outing for the Horns. Heads held high. There’s always another day!!

A football podcast I listened to said weeks ago predicted that Chavez would eventually pick Texas and they've since repeated that. They said all Chavez has to do is turn on the TV and watch our game and see that the defense is there and that they need a consistent scorer, especially someone from beyond the arc not named Madi Booker.

yeah, yeah. I take that with a grain of salt because:

1. These are football guys talking about women's basketball and they have probably never watched a full game. They're only talking about women's basketball because it's the off season and they are too depressed to talk about the men's team
2. They don't have the same contacts that they do for women's basketball as they do for football. So they're just talking out their you-know-what
3. It only makes sense, thus I don't believe it
4. NIL, NIL, NIL

Preface: Not a bball coach and prob dont know what i’m talking about, but …
Cant help but think the second quarter deserved a creative response rather than doing the same thing over and over expecting different results.
I think Vic knew that it was a lost cause about halfway through the 3rd quarter and he told the team*, "Let's just focus on our regular style of play." He didn't say to them, "We've lost it". But I think he started treating the game as an incredible practice for the tournament. Something to get film on so that they can review it the future games coming up.

*I have absolutely no proof of this

Not sure if you noticed, but the past month and a half Texas has been playing some highly ranked teams. And oh, a 15 game winning streak.
And did it with an eight player regular rotation since January, three of whom played 35+ minutes per game. South Carolina's depth is a huge advantage particularly this time of year, and they're very impressive the way they utilize it.

I watched Chavez closely on senior day as they announced each player who had already earned undergraduate degrees and several had either earned or were close to getting their master’s degree. She was paying close attention.
I believe academics will sway her decision. This is also based on nothing other speculation and my gut feeling, but hell it’s what we do on message boards.

Their bench is just plug and play. We have a ways to catch up .
They bring in Fulwiley and we bring in...Carlton....😄..

Do you or anyone know if she has a specific academic interest? McCombs? Law or med school? ... speculating, too.

About that coin flip. Winner should get lower seeds. Loser should get better time slot.

About Greenville - 90 minutes from Columbia and 16 hours from Austin.

They had a lot of fans rooting against them, so I’m going to cut our girls some slack. It wasn’t our day.

Here’s to a six game winning streak. :beertoast:

This is the first time that I have heard " academics" mentioned in her recruitment.

I agree, coming up with some new offensive twists would be great. Our lack of three point shooting was definitely one part of why we lost. I don't know why don't do pick and rolls. And just some plain ball screens, please. It is hard for Maddy to get great shots when people are all over her, though her elevation is a saving grace. We were bad the last two days. I don't see how we could have beaten LSU if they had their full complement of players. ---The new paradigm against us will be to completely cover the posts with double teams and dare us to go outside. Rori came through in the second half with her jumpers. The main task is to forget these games, do a major reset, and to get our confidence back.

I wasn't happy with forcing the ball inside to our bigs in the paint when they clearly weren't open; so many turnovers when we did that. But, that's probably what the game plan was even though SC was playing a sagging zone defense. If that isn't working, and Booker isn't shooting well, not sure what our fallback gameplan is.
