Rockets' back to wall

Choke City

all they have to do is double team mcgrady and when he's not finding anyone open or when no one is hitting their shots, they have no chance. ******.

Despite Mavs, Suns, Nugz...Rox are first ones to 4 losses. Not having Alston is an excuse, but not much of one. When did T-Mac start wearing the sleeve? Is this a built in excuse?

Hook'em!!!

Blow it up.

You just can't count on Yao or Tracy to both be healthy.

I think you trade both of them and start over. Maybe you're selling low, but I think that's the right decision. We'll get a good deal on at least one of them. NBA has at least 5 knucklehead GMs. Rob one of them.

Granted I'm bitter tonight, but I've been a big Yao fan since the beginning. I just don't think you can continue to pair two injury risks as your core, cross your fingers and toes for 82 games + playoffs, and expect to have success (legitimately contend for conference finals) in the West.

Unrelated note: "Playoffs Lebron" is damn entertaining. That drive where he split two defenders and dunked over a third? Wow. Filthy.

as a Rocket fan, this has been the most nauseating season in a long time. By that I mean the kind of nausea one gets at a roller coaster (I hate those things).

22 game win streak, 2nd longest in NBA history, and almost all of those teams in that echelon WON the nba finals and here we are about to be swept in round 1.

Agreed with the poster who said something needs to happen. But I don't know about getting rid of TM or YM. Lets just enjoy what we have, we are not NBA champ material especially out of the West.

IMO, keep the 2 superstars for next year certainly and keep adding big men. The year after next then seriously consider getting rid of an aging injury prone Tmac who is a 1 dimensional player and definitely not clutch. I've always said Drexler was so much better than TMac and many argued.

There was a time when Drexler may have been the best player in the league not named Jordan. I don't believe McGrady is on that level.

Getting Rafer Alston back will turn the series around for Houston. Rockets will "shock the world" by winning at least one game @ Utah. They're not done yet!

Game 5 will be also be a Rockets win at Toyota Center. The question is Game 6... if Houston wins that game, they win the series. Either Utah wins in 6 or Houston wins in 7 (I'm assuming Houston splits Game 3 and 4).

The Rafer injury is a huge blow to the team and can't be understated. There's no doubt they win Game 2 with him playing. It's a damn shame.

Rockets are looking at getting swept. Their star players are too injury prone. Not sure what the answer is?

Urgh...Utah...freaking hate Utah. All the missed FTs and layups last night was the story of the game . The AK flop was kinda hard to take though...

I am not dissapointed, I kind of expected this to happen given its the Jazz and the Rockets don't have Yao. The Jazz are a matchup nightmare for the Yao-less Rockets, I've been saying that all along this season. Their bigmen smother Scola, Hayes and Landry in all areas of the game and Deron Williams is too fast for Jackson and too big for Brooks.
Next season will be the Rockets year, they will aquire a mid-level and hopefulyl continue to draft well and will be assimilated to Adelman's style. Hopefully they can stay healthy too......

Would love to have heard the Gene Peterson/Jim Foley call on the Scola-Kirilenko play. Bet it was a masterpiece of understatement.

You know what's most aggravating? Boozer killed us last year and this year, so far, he's been pretty ho hum. What's killing the Rockets is the fact that, once again, they absolutely suck on offense. I mean, flat out, can't get an ounce of breath, suck.

I think you start posting Tracy up in the fourth. He's chucking too much and in the fourth quarter, he's especially ineffective. Make him post up so the double-teams occur closer to the basket and allow the Rockets a better chance to shoot from the perimeter.

Other than that...

how bout going to the rim in the 4th tback, that would be nice. I can't stand those 20 ft pull up bricks. I'm not sure how much Yao would have mattered, they had him last year and lost game 7 at home. It's tough when you don't really have a 3rd scorer, your main option is injured, and mcgrady is settling for bad jumpers.

Now to the Stros' season, oh wait...****.

Comparing this years team without Yao to last years with him is apples and oranges.

Nobody thought we would even be in the playoffs after the first 2 months of the season and now we're choking against the Jazz, who just happen to be one of the best coached teams in the NBA and just happen to be bigger, stronger, deeper and just flat out better than us.

Didn't you WATCH the game last night? Doug Collins had it pegged correctly - he's TIRED. That was basically 1-on-5 basketball last night and they still damn near pulled it out.

I'm with the other guy. I don't think they'll win the series, but with Skippy back they may steal one to get us another home game at least.

#1 Yao would make a huge difference in this series. They are having trouble scoring, and Yao would give you atleast 20 a game.

#2 TMac is soft. Always has been. He settles for jumpers WAY too much and now his passing has been pretty poor as well. They don't even have to double him, they just step towards the ball and he gives it up. Weak. Even when he does penetrate now he gives it up to someone around the basket instead of trying to finish. Bottom line is you can't win anything with him leading your team. He just doesn't want it bad enough.

With all due respect, everybody outside of the most myopic Rocket fan knew they had no chance in the playoffs without Yao. Every team (or should I say every fanbase) in the west was trying to figure out how they could rig the seedings at the end of the season to face Houston. The 22 game winning streak was an incredible feat, but 95% of it was over the dregs of the league or against a team with an injured star or whatever. It was fool's gold, and if you believed that team was going to make any noise in the playoffs without Yao, you were the fool. The just don't have the horsepower without the best center in the league. No team could expect to compete in this year's western conference playoffs missing a player of that caliber.

Still, I don't know how you could be disappointed in the Rockets this year. Just making the playoffs was an amazing feat. Any of you who want to blow up Yao and McGrady are not thinking straight. What they need to do, however, is ration their minutes to ensure that they are healthy when it counts. Each averaged about 37 mins/game and they should each be around 34. It doesn't sound like much, but over an 82 game season it's 240 minutes. That's like getting 6 or 7 games off during the season. The good news is that Houston has really developed its depth with Scola and Landry, so they should be able to rest McGrady and Yao and still make the playoffs next year. The future is still very bright in Houston.

I don't think you can "blame" the game...series...last years series...or the year before thats series on T-Mac....But more and more I think he is missing something important.

I've finally started noticing that when the Rockets are down...T-Mac will suddenly become this great player who drives to the basket and does the right things. However, the minute the game is tied or we are up a point T-Mac seems to become the guy who starts tossing up 20 footers.

I love the guy and he has an amazing skillset but I'm just not sure he has the "it" to be a guy that leads a team to a championship.

Shifting focus for a moment....Does anyone think that Battier actually hurts the Rockets in the playoffs? For all that he does well....I think his lack of dribbling ability hurts the team on the offensive side. Speaking of offense...We simply can't go into next season with players like Deke and Hayes who simply can't contribute on the offensive side of the ball.

There's an awful lot of finger-pointing being directed at a guy who, like LeBron James, almost had a triple-double last night. The difference was LeBron's team was facing the Wizards, who would get swept by the Jazz.
