Riley to USC - announcement tomorrow

Thanks for the insight.
I figured there must have been something else going on other than a raise. I could see how being left out of the loop on the SEC deal would rub him the wrong way.
I think this could look ugly for Riley, or zero u, or both, if and when all of the details of how this went down comes out.

figure he made the decision during the bye week before that. His attention to special teams was questionable (see the OSU game - negative 14 points in a 4 point game).

Oklahoma got a touchdown off a muffed punt too, so we're talking 7, not 14.

Don't bring facts into this thing. EMOTIONS!!!

I wouldn't be salty at all if LR would have been forthright about it. A. My agent has been working with them. B. I met with the players first. C. I told them I would not accept any transfers from them. D. I wouldn't take players that I recruited on OU's dime IN SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA. E. Take off the OU Air Jordan's for USC photo ops. :)

Bubba,

You and I both know that Barry would never have pulled some **** like this. Linc must really be pissed about being left out of SEC discussions, and rightfully so. Still not cool. My friends on the USC payroll & funding the program aren't answering any questions about the transfers. They just "smile".

He damn sure doesn’t show any love for the Sooners. Pissed, hate, arrogant, chickens- - t, all of the above?

Big 12 fans roast OU president for ‘more notice’ comment about Lincoln Riley departure

I have criticized OU's selection to replace Dr Boren since it was announced. After Deloss retired, Dr Boren was the only guiding light the Big XII had. My concern was that clearly his replacement wasn't able to shine Dr Boren's boots.

Example #1, making material choices that impact the entire athletic department without including any of the coaches in discussions, much less telling them what was being considered. Guy is a clown, and OU needs to send him packing sooner rather than later.

We are moving arm & arm with OU into the SEC. This clown may indeed decide he would rather be linked to Kentucky or Vandy or South Carolina than Texas.

If the Okies aren't capable, I'll be glad to chair a committee to help outplace the misfit.

I know a lot of Tech alums were hoping and expecting the guy from Muleshoe would be their coach in a bit. Some thought OU hired him to avoid that.
I have no knowledge of what happened or why re the SEC but there are a lot of us from both schools who have doubts about scuttling off to the Cracker Kingdom and how it was done

maybe LR did too

I have degrees from UT and Tech and I can tell you that Techsters’ hate for OU is just a wee bit behind their dislike for Texas. So maybe LR never fully bonded with the Norman mystique?

SH, some on another board are suggesting that Boren left OU in a deep financial hole. Any truth to that?

Those same people enjoyed the spending while it lasted. They, like us, have lost some deep pockets in recent years. Smith dies 2-3 years ago. Phillips 66 gets gobbled up by oSu's Conoco, then spit back out in a somewhat neutered form.

I don't know, nor have I studied their financial status. They should be examining Arkansas & Ole Miss for the treatment of Texas HS kids, since they too are approaching the 50% mark, and waiving out of state tuition helps them numbers wise, but also places a deep cut in the academic side.

For whatever he did that they think is bad, he did a whole lot more good for the school. Anything else I could say will get me banished to West Mall.

I think OU's out of state tuition compares favorably to in state tuition at UT. That was how it was when I was in school and I would think they had progressed similarly. Likewise, out of state at Arky was comparable to in state at OU. I spent my freshman year as a pig. I caught hell there for missing Arky v. SMU game for OU v. Nebraska. And they tried to explain to me that Arky was UT's main rival. I pointed out they were 3rd - behind Aggy and OU. They looked at me like my pug looks at me when I whistle.

To me, they were a clear 2nd behind OU, so I would argue aggy was 3rd.

Arkansas was our only rival for the SWC crown. Growing up in the 1960's, OU wasn't a speck on my windshield. Of course, that's changed. But I'd put Arkansas number one. Aggy? Don't make me laugh. But times have changed.

I wonder if Linc would have come here instead of Sark, if we had reached out? Read somewhere he grew up a Horns fan.

Not sure he’s walking into such a bad set of players in USC. They looked good against BYU, granted not the strongest defensive test but their qb looked pretty good the game in highlights I watched.

Yea, his recruits are following him and transfers will, as well.
He may hit the ground running.
Will be interesting to see how it goes.
I think OU may be in for some years similar to what we have experienced.

I’ve lived in SoCal since 1977. Been to that area (So LA) only once, when Texas played there a few years ago.

Dukesteer, if you ever feel like venturing south of LA, you can have enjoy the privilege of seeing two homes in which I resided more than a half century ago:

8220 2nd Ave, Inglewood, CA (circa 1955)

We lived here when my dad was working as an Asst. Professor at USC and earning his doctorate. I don't remember it at all, because I didn't come along until the last year we lived there. Dad then took a better job with Cal State - Long Beach, and thus we moved to:

3072 Silverwood Dr, Rossmoor CA (circa 1961)

I loved this house and this neighborhood. From there it was on to Texas ...

3300 Conner Drive, Canyon TX (1964)

Quite a change in scenery, going from Orange County to the high plains with a barb wire fence and a cow pasture that stretched to the horizon.

As for how the SoCal houses look now:

Inglewood

Zillow estimate is $983,600.

Rossmoor/Los Alamitos

Zillow estimate is $1,127,700.
