My perspective, after 25 years in Texas academia, is that the political climate is difficult for Texas public universities. A meddling legislature and the overall politicization of everything academia holds dear makes private schools a much more palatable alternative. It is difficult to work everyday answering to people you have no respect for.

Regarding Hartzell: It's time! I think it's a win-win. Both schools need a new voice. Hartzell did some great work and we will always be appreciative! That said, he certainly was not without controversy (I won't go down that rabbit hole) Again, win-win!
