Why is a good pass called a dime?

My kids tell me it's because the pass is a "10". The same applies to a basketball shot that goes in all net.

I think the younger folks just liked the sound of "dropping a dime" and co-opted this OG phrase for themselves. It used to mean narc'ing on someone because you were dropping a dime in a pay phone to call the cops. But nobody knows what a pay phone is anymore.

Why is a good pass called a dime?

Senior Google sez: The phrase “on a dime” originated from the idea that the dime is the smallest and thinnest U.S. coin, and therefore turning or stopping on a dime requires extreme precision. The phrase is often used to describe when something can turn or stop in a very small space or suddenly. For example, you might say “That horse is so well trained it can turn on a dime”.
