I bet Waco High starts to be a tough out.
No need to go back over all his negatives, but the guy can truly coach football.

edit.... I was also just imagining that Waco High School and Baylor may have to trade stadiums once the high school gets going and Baylor falls a little further.

Yeah, Waco will be a tough out, and the toughness is likely to increase equal to the number of players he encourages to use steroids, just like his last HS gig.

Not much suspense with this one, except wondering where aggy is

This reminds me...An article recently came out listing top 10 UT quarterbacks of all time. Listed Street at 3, McCoy at 2, and VY at 1.
I personally lean McCoy at 1 when looking at overall body of work. Would love to hear thoughts...

Bobby Layne (You said "all time")

No denying VY was special in college and willed that team to win. Our first two Rose Bowls, and he owned both of them.

I would put Street ahead of Colt

Duke Carlisle has to be in the mix too. I'm not sure where though.

I've watched a lot of football. VY was the best as far as I'm concerned. I was amazed by him and I just can't put put anyone else close to him. That Rose Bowl victory over USC was an incredible achievement if we are to believe the hype they laid on USC prior to the game. The USC players to a man admitted later he was unstoppable. I know Street did some great things but VY was on another level as far as I'm concerned.

Agreed. So many times we saw him do the seemingly impossible.

I think VY is on record as saying that he wishes he would have played his senior year. If he had he would have erased any and all doubt about who is the greatest college QB of all time...

Carlisle and Street were very good for their time and they both delivered undefeated seasons and a natty. They both deserve a highly honored place among Longhorn QB's. But neither had to carry a team the way Vince and Colt did. And neither had skills to compare against Vince and Colt.

And neither had skills to compare against Vince and Colt.
Each of the four had a different skill set. All four never quit so they were equal in the most important "will to win" skill set. While he was a better than average passer, it was Vince's ability to run that set him apart. Colt was the best passer of the bunch. Carlie was the best tactician. Street was the best athlete and probably could have rivaled Colt as the best passer if he had run the same offense as Colt.

We have to remember also that Duke played both ways and delivered at least one game changing/saving interception at a HUUUGE moment. I'm not disagreeing that VY was the best ever. He was. VY was a game changer, but Duke was a game changer on both sides of the ball.

One of the hardest things to do in any type of sports analysis in my opinion is reconcile/compare players from different eras. Very difficult to do for a myriad of reasons. I'm glad a few of the "older" guys were brought up. Layne came in at #4 here.
I have a feeling some would view McCoy vs VY differently if the '09 championship would have been delivered....which I believe it would have been....

Excellent point my friend. VY ahtleticism versus Colt’s lethal accuracy if both had a natty would be legit debate. Wish we could have seen Colt healthy and VY senior year. Ifs and buts ...

Absolutely agree on all points.

Street could throw the ball well enough. His 4th and 3 pass to Peschel was brilliant. And Street was nails under pressure. As I said, he belongs in an honored place because of what he accomplished. But, Street was not the passer that Colt was. Not even close. But he ran the wishbone to almost perfection, which is what we needed from him.

I also greatly respect Carlisle. But if you watch the films of his games, you really can't compare him to the others. But he got the job done and deserves his place of honor.

Breckyn Hairgod

... has some competition this season

Thought about how this might have changed the history of UT sports in a dramatic way:
VY comes back for his senior year behind a monster o-line a strong defense, Jamal Charles, Finley, and Sweed. They average around 60 points per game and blow through the schedule for a second MNC. McCoy gets quality snaps in relief, and might even get to run the offense a few times.
Texas struggles in 2007, but comes back strong in 2008, beats Tech (because no way they lose that game twice) and play in Mack's third national championship in four years.
Texas plays yet another NC in 2009. Mack retires. Hands the reins to Will Muschamp. No idea how he does, but we're all fat and happy for a season or so...

I'll throw this in randomly in the random section (stole it from -gasp- Dallas Morning News):
Here's a nugget: Since 2008, Mike Gundy has been under nine wins just twice and has not finished under .500.
Bad hair, but not too shabby coaching job from out in the middle of the desert and competing in a tough conference.
