Question from Bama Fan: Best Route To the Stadium

I used to live with n Round Rock-
Take the 130 toll road- zero traffic
To MLK AND the toll road starts at Georgetown. Speed limit is 75,
Go west on MLK - light traffic and then right on Red River

My parking passes were in the parking lot of the old basketball stadium

Like everyone else said, get there early. Like 9am

2 hours before the LSU game was an absolute freaking disaster. Granted the game was at night and there was regular Saturday traffic for that time. I suggest 8 am if you are unfamiliar with the area.

Thanks for all the info. Since I'm parking off Guadalupe, I think I'm leaning towards going the 51st Street exit over to Guadalupe. And, for the record, I thought nothing in this thread was out of line. If anything, I cast the first stone by asking Sabre to park on the street. Good natured ribbing is part of sports, and in a way, I think it actually adds something to a rivalry. At the end of the day, we are all sports fans who simply want to see different results on the field.

TH,

Hope you enjoy your visit to Austin except for the score, but I am a realist. After you get home, send me a PM if you are interested in a story about Coach Bryant trying to integrate Alabama in 1964. Not hearsay because I lived it.

I hope you stay around. There will be some epic battles over the years. This is a great forum for good natured football fun. Sabre is the legend around here.:hookem:

I haven't tried parking near the stadium for at least the last 5 seasons or so. Are there still CapMetro busses that run from Barton Creek Mall and other satellite parking lots?
Please tell me the CapMetro park and ride is still in place?
I also have heard horror stories about taking Uber to the games from a hotel.

I like to hear from ‘rival’ intelligent fans here. OUBubba, as long as it’s here and not on The West Mall. (Joke… I don’t know where the icons went?)

There was an Aggie, PropJoe? If I recall was always great to hear from.

TideHead your signed in. Stick around.

I have had the pleasure of visiting Lincoln, home of the greatest fans in all sports - pure class (unless Colorado is in town). By contrast, I am waiting to meet the first Ohio State fan with an ounce of class. I suspect that most are WalMart fans, although I'm not sure WalMart has that much polyester.

Yes, the fans in Lincoln WERE great, through the 90's and early 2000's. After multiple losses to Texas, those fans got uglier and uglier. I would put the Nebraska fans at the 2009 Championship Game in Arlington and the 2010 game in Lincoln up with the worst fans Ohio State has to offer.

I was at that UT-NEB game and I agree.. beforehand it was all good. That last second field goal seemed to have caused some duress.
Got to my car and the entire passenger side of my vehicle was damaged / from fender to fender.
TideHead, can you account for your whereabouts the evening of Dec 5, 2009, roughly 10PM?

Actually, I can. I was driving home from Atlanta after watching us beat Florida in the SEC Title game. We were all eager to find out if we would be playing you guys in Pasadena. This was before the days of being able to follow every play on your phone, and I started getting texts from people first saying that time had run out and then saying that you guys had kicked a game winning field goal. We were very confused until we got home and saw on the highlights how it actually went down. It was an exciting time.

If you arrive more than hour before the game, generally speaking traffic is not that bad. Tailgaters have already been in place for hours and many fans show up at the hour mark. It's leaving that's horrible. 100,000 people trying to drive at the same time (unless y'all win by 30 :smile1: )

That's why I choose to park several blocks north of the stadium in the neighborhood. Its in and around Hyde Park. It's about a 20-30 minute walk, but to me that's much better than sitting in your car for 30 min getting out of a garage. Plus traffic is a bit lighter up there by the time I start driving.
