Question from Bama Fan: Best Route To the Stadium

You have the right to your opinion, right or wrong.
According to some around here, this is NOT a forum where the words right or left are permissible.

To the OP...you have plenty of season ticket holders around here. They know the parking far better than I do...I used to just park at my office near 17th and Lavaca and walked the little ways, meandering through tailgates. Granted, in the mornings, it was far more bearable heatwise than post-game, although I ALSO was able to get out of downtown faster after the game than probably some who were in the garages...

TideHead

Are you aware of the pre game and post game concert on the lawn at LBJ? I have no idea who is playing, but then I'm so old I think I've heard of two of the performers in three years.

Everyone? go back and read some of the comments. We have our 10% like every fan group that acts like as..s
If you are referring to my comments, sir...you may want to stick around awhile before judging.
We are very serious here :lmao::smh:
but also very playful.
Since you enjoy percentages, I'll venture to say 99.9% of the people here know that my post was all in good fun..
Hence, the comment by Dion above.
Doubt you'll find a more respectable fan group....anywhere in all of Travis county.

SN,

Not true; I have made my requests to CDC, but it seems that Charles Harden Holley, Roy Orbison, Roky, Jerry Lacroix, Michael (Marvin) Aday, and Kenny Daniels are all dead, and I was never a fan of Shiva's Head Band. DAC is still alive, but you never know if he'll be PG or XXX.

My .02:

Go early - leave EXTRA time due to early start & you not being familiar with the area...

Traveling North or South on I-35
Exit MLK Blvd. go West - 3 blocks on MLK
Left on San Jacinto go to the 3rd block (1600 block)
On right is a State Parking Garage - public can use on Sat. - approx. $25 to park

Across the street is Scholtz Beer Garden: 1607 San Jacinto St. - Austin, 78701 (for Garmen)
Walk down San Jacinto and it will take you right to the stadium

Scholtz's would be a good place to grab some grub or beer before or after the game.

Try the link: Scholz Garten for more info.

Good luck whatever choice you make!

I am curious about something Ken.

When you say "we", to whom are you referring?
Longhorn fans and every other fan base. Every group, whether sports fans or races, political, religious or whatever. I think 90% of most people are good people. It's the other 10% that gives the ninety percent a bad reputation. Hope that answers your question. If not be more specific.

Ken,

I'm certainly pleased for you that you have never had to visit or be present for an Ohio State game. I won't even give them 10% as being "not bad"

OK, so I assume you are counting yourself as a Longhorn fan since the "we" in your quote referred to this board's regulars. I can believe that, because UT has graduates and supporters in all 50 states and most countries around the world.

Yet it still seems strange a guy from a small town in Alabama would make his first set of posts on this board in response to an Alabama fan, and that those posts are critical of UT fans. It makes me much more skeptical of your use of the word "we", when referring to those of us who are of a burnt orange persuasion.

If you are actually a second Tide fan here to visit, welcome. But you'll probably find a warmer welcome if you clearly identify your allegiance like the original poster did.

I'm sure at times the ten percent may attend games more than the 90%. It may be because the 90% are not coming to the games because they are tired of putting up with the 10% attitudes.

I have a granddaughter in med school at UTSA. I support wherever she attends. When she was attending University of Alabama I supported them. Now for some fanatics they may find that hard to understand. So be it. And yes 10% of Alabama fans are as.....s

One nice thing about the Mackovic Era, a regular joe like me could snag a parking spot at the LBJ Library for free.

My preferred spot in recent years has been the lot behind the strip center at Dean Keeton & Medical Arts (where Snarf’s is); pay $30 to the Rotary Club or Lions or whoever.

I have had the pleasure of visiting Lincoln, home of the greatest fans in all sports - pure class (unless Colorado is in town). By contrast, I am waiting to meet the first Ohio State fan with an ounce of class. I suspect that most are WalMart fans, although I'm not sure WalMart has that much polyester.

My understanding is that the parking on 26th from San Jacinto east to Robert Dedman behind the law school is first come first serve, but you may have to get there at 3 AM.

Kinda wish we could have a B1G team on the schedule, just so I could roll this out:

I hear you. My money stopped going to UT when my kids attended other schools. That said, my sports loyalty remains firmly entrenched in Austin.

OK...Now that we've gotten all the other nonsense out of the way, I'm going to ask you the only question that actually matters here...

You don't really believe that Bama would have won that game if Colt hadn't gotten hurt on the first drive do you?
Hhmm??
:deadhorse::herring:

I've had luck in the parking garage on the East side of 35 almost directly across from the stadium. As for traffic, I'd get up early and get on down there. What the heck. It's gameday and it would be fun for you to stroll around if you're way early. But I would say you can bet that traffic will be there.

Definitely would have been a more interesting game. Just like if Alabama's receivers hadn't got hurt last year. Ifs and buts. I coached for 25 years and you can NEVER tell what is going to happen.

Yeah Tide...

thanks for coming here to ask. I think everyone gave good advice.

also suckit! and hope we have good weather for the game. early game means less fun pregame. but hope you enjoy (pregame and postgame)

Hey Tide, I come from Georgetown and we always take I35. We take the upper deck and exit MLK. The traffic is congested when you exit the highway onto frontage but fans are pretty good about letting others in. I too park in San Jacinto garage, so I am not sure about parking. I think StubHub sells parking passes..Good Luck.
