Sales tax hikes are the way to go. So many tourists will foot the bill here vs it all shifting to me. I'd rather pay $400 more a month in property taxes (which is what I pay now vs when I built my house 18 yrs ago) than $1,000 a month or more in a state income tax. If we added an income tax my property values would still go up meaning taxes go up anyway so I'd be double screwed.
I am SHOCKED to hear this news.
Granted. I recognize some non-liberal cities are being stupid about spending. However, I can't think of a single one run by lefty libs that isn't a complete financial mess. Many Texas cities are loaded up with debt too, and many of them aren't even cities that we tend to think of as liberal. It's these stupid bond elections they hold every year. People just mindlessly vote for them or not vote at all and let them pass, and they forget that it's deficit spending that our kids and grandkids will have to pay off.

My taxing school district of Thrall ISD just passed a $65 million school bond with a total of 601 votes cast. This with a total city population of 1,046 and total school population from k thru 12th grade of 777 kids from the surrounding area. This is following them passing a $15 mil bond just a few years ago that turned into a $20+ mil school boondoggle.
This is how dumb people are, the ISD sold it on zero tax increases and the people bought it. The school and most of the teachers are awful.
Did they do the math on that? That's $81K for every man, woman, and child. That's more than the per capita national debt.
I can't even figure out what they need $65 million for except pocket money.
It's absolutely stupid. People are incapable of thinking for themselves, they just believe the liars in charge telling them what they want to hear.
"You mean we can get a $65 million new school system and not pay anything for it?" WHOOOOO!!! Luckily they had a SECOND bond for $4 million in new athletic facilities that failed. I can't believe $65 million doesn't already include that.
Let's let this sink in. There are an average of 60 kids per grade level or two classrooms of 30 each per grade. I can't even figure out what they need $65 million for except pocket money.
Easy boys, easy now....Did they do the math on that? That's $81K for every man, woman, and child. That's more than the per capita national debt. I hate to second guess you, but are you sure about those numbers? That's just insane.
Easy boys, easy now....
It may be bad, but $65million will buy you three elementary schools, a Thrall sized high school, or a middle school and an elementary school.
If the district is buying schools, those schools last 30-40 years, or longer, so you need to consider how many kids will be served over that period of time, not just how many are in the system right now.
This is going to hurt dems in that this will be their main focus of May and June. July is vacation month. By mid-August, folks are returning to office and school, looking at their schedules between then and the holidays (or elections). At some point reality is going to set in for the dems. When a 50 seat loss is going be realized, not sure what they will do. Likely whistle past the graveyard. In any event, there is no upside in what they are capable of doing.**** like this and Democrats catering to it is why they won't benefit significantly from this controversy.

BOND 2022 Fact Friday Available!.They moved into a $20 million high school two years ago. All I know of for sure is they are building a new elementary school and admin offices. The middle school is about 20 years old and might be getting updated. I bet we see athletic facilities improved even though that bond failed. I'm guessing the $65 mil will turn into $75-$80 mil making the tax payers $100 mil in debt for a new HS, middle school and admin building. For a town of a little over 1,000.
Tell it to Putin. That's definitely a point to consider, buy damn, that's an assload of money for a district that small.
That's a winning argument, lol.FWIW, there is a place in the law in which the word "judge" refers to Supreme Court justices and lower court judges - Art. III, § 1. That would be enough for them to go with it.
And again, I'm consistent on this. I don't like the idea of California and other states being so callous to permit abortion so late. I think it's absolutely sick, and I view abortion as the biggest moral stain on this country. However, I don't live in those states. I can stand by and say how wrong they are, but it's not my place to say someone without constitutional authority should intervene and deny them the right to make the decision for their own states.
Need to get my humor meter checked!
We do need rational people. I'm a Democrat. And as I've said before, that means I'm about the Constitution which means I'm not a big fan of gun control, limitations on free speech or religious zealots taking over.
I'm curious how you view the Underground Railroad. We have the luxury with hindsight to say the Underground Railroad was absolutely 100% morally correct. However, it's entire purpose was to violate state law, federal law, and the Constitution itself (Article 4, Section 2, Clause 3)! But the Railroad worked in part because it had the support of authorities in locales that supported abolition. I hope you say you're glad these folks without constitutional authority intervened to free slaves.
That's a winning argument, lol.
That's where we're headed. However, does Congress have the right to step in and say California cannot permit abortion? No. That is abusive and tyrannical.
That's where we're headed.
Saw a similar effort in Klein ISD a few weeks ago...they tried selling it to seniors as no impact on them due to the freezing of taxes and regular homeowners as only up to a dime per hundred of valuation. My taxing school district of Thrall ISD just passed a $65 million school bond with a total of 601 votes cast. The budget for the entire city was $580,000 last year. WTF do they need $65 million for schools? People love debt and shiny new things.
But the property taxes of schools not in city limits go to public schools, right? Those people also have the right to vote on these things.Saw a similar effort in Klein ISD a few weeks ago...they tried selling it to seniors as no impact on them due to the freezing of taxes and regular homeowners as only up to a dime per hundred of valuation.
At least the law requires them to break each major project into a separate proposition...so we had four of them, including a chunk for a shiny new athletic complex and a shiny new performing arts center. Also one for new construction plus extra buildings to be added to existing campuses (oh yay, more temporary buildings that never go away). I think the fourth one was basically tablets for every student.
I voted against all four. Not sure if mom voted for any of them. Two passed.
As to Thrall, remember that the rural ISD's are not just limited to city population...the service area also tends to include a lot of people OUTSIDE of the city limits, as evidenced by your population of the city barely being four digits but with almost 800 students.

Are you sure you're a Democrat with your love of the Constitution and hatred of the liberal mindset?
