Pierce ?

Today is a good day to be a Longhorn, none of us have always made right call and so today for all the haters is a day for grace to all, lets all just be happy the Horns are in Omaha and as a united fan base lets enjoy what will hopefully be an extended trip.:hookem:
It's never too late for newcomers to jump on the bandwagon.

If this won't turn the anti-fans into fans, nothing will.

Yep. Those on the hate train are just biding their time, looking for the moment to pollute the discussion with their negativity again.

You notice none of the hate train folks were on the thread congratulating the team and actually enjoying a good Longhorn performance. To me, that is very telling.

Pierce’s tenure is and should be in constant evaluation. I was not a hater but my expectations were that he needed to make omaha cause next year looks dim with all of our losses and the amount of talent we had coming back this year. if he DNQ’s next year along with no Omaha this year he should be gone WAS my opinion. My basis for that is we fired Augie Garrido, a legend, after only one sub .500 season and he had two titles and was in the championship game other times!!

At a minimum I want a change at pitching coach after this season. I want to get the best pitching coach we can find.

For this year now, I just want to see us compete in Omaha. Don’t have to win it all although of course I would love to.

I don’t think my expectations are unreasonable for the talent that my state has available to it, in fact, there is enough talent for more than one Texas school to be in Omaha year in and year out.

having said all that I hope pierce is so successfull he is here for 20-30 years and becomes just another Longhorn legend baseball coach with multiple titles. :hookem::bevo:

Take the best out of the Greater Houston area, cherry pick the rest of the state and California, and get a stud grad transfer or two and/or some really good stats JC transfers, and we'll stay good for a long time. Y'all haven't even seen Porchas on the mound yet...

There are a couple of redshirts this year who could be studs in the years to come. Texas may take a step back next year but the pipeline is there and if the youngsters who got a year to learn behind a very veteran team this year step up next year, it may well only be a small step back.

I’m not sure who all were losing but see if this list looks pretty close:

faltine
Messinger
Murphy Stehly
Austin Todd
Hansen
Melendez
Hodo
Campbell
Silas ardoin

I know I’m missing some, I see no way to replace ALL those guys. That’s a lot of production. And I’m very worried about pitching.
I think next year we will be very fortunate to win a regional. Not that they won’t be fun to watch cause if they are talented, then the next year (2024) should be a good run too.

I agree if "a step back" only means not winning the Super Regional. That should always be the bar for Texas Baseball.

FW,

What about that tall kid from Oak Ridge he signed? (I believe he's at Oak Ridge or that new school across 45 from the Woodlands.) Maybe mc knows more.

The new school is Grand Oaks. But I think the incoming recruit is from Oak Ridge.

He's about 6'7", but has a fastball in low-mid 80s. Some baseball people I know wanted to compare him to Rick Lueken or the big kid that committed to Gus out of Springtown. Both of them hit high 90s in HS.

I'll reserve my comment as I only saw him briefly, AND I remember a kid that hit 82-84 on gun in HS. Then he got a real coach, who significantly increased his speed and pitch selection. Maybe FW or Chop or one of our baseball gurus knows what happened to him. First name was "Roger'.

Sabre, I was actually talking about a couple of the freshman already on campus. I actually tend to wait on really getting to know the HS recruits until the draft shakes out though Pierce does have good record of actually getting most of his recruits to pass on the small money for the possibility of the bigger bucks with a couple of college years under their belt.

As for list above on who Texas may lose, I dont have full list of who will be draft eligible in front of me but assuming they all are, I tend to think Hodo and Ardoin come back, Campbell as well. I am less optimistic but let's see where they get drafted when it comes to Faltine and Hansen. Pete doesn't strike me as the type of pitcher who will go in first three rounds and he may want to get another full year as a weekend starter under his belt. I am sure that they are all looking at how much money Ivan made coming back but at same time have to contrast that with what Tristan probably lost coming back.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I think the red-shirt sophomores and up are draft eligible. If that's the case, the following are either out of eligibility or draft eligible after 2022:
Trey Faltine
Silas Ardoin
Skyler Messinger
Douglas Hodo
Murphy Stehly
Peyton Powell
Ivan Melendez
Eric Kennedy
Jace Hutchins
Pete Hansen
Tristan Stephens
Daniel Blair
Zane Morehouse
Austin Todd
Coy Cobb
Marcus Olivarez
Sam Walbridge
Jared Southard
Cameron Dayton
Justin Eckhardt

Obviously not all will sign, but it's going to be quite a task to replace those that do, but the transfer portal might make it possible sooner rather than later.

Don’t you think that coaching at a high level of the game can be over emphasized in baseball. There are only so many top dominating pitchers and only so many players who can hit hard breaking balls at 90 miles per hour, and teams with these players will win more often. And with the portal, getting these players will be the key as evidence by the ags going from the sh - -house to the penthouse in one year. Schlossnagle is a great coach, and they will be a contender with him, but nobody is talking about what he did in the portal.
The portal may be the difference maker hoing forward.

no!! The short answer is I see coaches in baseball at all levels that see something in a player that they can win with and there are coaches that don’t have that vision. The ones that don’t are just average. The ones that do are highly successful, Augie Garrido, pat casey and Joe Maddon. Oregon st won back to back titles, that’s pretty rare and won another title just 4 years ago, guess where he is this year?? In omaha. Im not saying he is going to win it but you have to make it to omaha for a chance. That’s at Oregon st! Texas hasn’t won three titles this century, in fact I don’t think anyone has but Oregon st. And they are a team to watch on the other side.

well Oregon st hasn’t made it yet but point is, pretty good record while he’s there. Double ****, Casey isn’t even the coach any more at osu. freakin covid. College ball sucks without Casey, marquess, Garrido and Martin gone.

I think you're right.

One guy to continue to watch is Gavin Kash. He had very limited appearances this year, and a low batting avg w/ no HR on a low # of at bats. But... this dude has serious power. He was rated the #1 first baseman in Texas HS, and pro scouts drool over his power hitting. Next year, hopefully he'll post at least high 0.200s batting avg and 15+ homeruns (if he's a starter/everyday player). By the time he's out of here, he could be another Ivan (or Murph). Tulo will work with him.

Also, get Stewart a lot more work early in the season in the mid-week. Get his confidence up, his control down, and his head thinking like a pitcher. His stuff is the nastiest of our entire pitching staff.

Porchas just graduated high school. He's from some ranch town in California. Some rated him the #1 pitcher in California high schools.

Grubbs is another stud incoming high school pitcher. He's from baseball factory Arlington Martin HS.

Ace Whitehead. He'll be really, really good. At the plate batting (not on the mound). He's already shown some flashes at the plate this year.

O'Banan. We didn't get to see him this year. I bet because he's redshirting, not because he sucks (which he doesn't). He's supposed to be pretty good on the mound.
I think Ace Whitehead has the best swing mechanics on the team, other than Melendez.

Senior Class / Possible Underclassmen Draftees and some opinions sprinkled in:

Seniors:

Pitchers:
Olivarez
Tristan

Batters:
Murph
Todd
Messinger

That's it. Those are the only guys that absolutely have to go.

Some likely high round draftees (some may or may not go; I hope as many as possible stick around):

Pitchers:
Hansen - will probably sign, but maybe not if the $$$$ ain't good enough
Southard - will probably stick around
Morehouse - mid-rounds, will probably stick around

Batters:
Melendez - will definitely sign
Ardoin - will probably sign ****could be even harder to replace than Ivan****
Faltine - will probably sign
Kennedy - may or may not sign; injury bug may push him down to the mid-rounds
Hodo - mid-rounds, will probably stick around

I may have missed some.

Agree with everything you said, but I think Campbell may have hurt his chances with his play the last two games. SSs need some bat, but more glove.
