Over/Under on Number of Players Singing the Eyes

when some people at A&M wanted to tear down Sul Ross's statue their chancellor told them to pizz off and the problem went away. Of course he is from Ganado, TEXAS, and so tradition means a little to him

As for our band, they should certainly be allowed to boycott the Eyes. Don't want them violating their most sincere well informed little souls.

Just a thought, do you think we could hire the Aggie Band to come play the Eyes for us? They know it because it is a part of their school's song. They may need to change their lyrics a little:

The Eyes of Texas are upon you,
that is the song they sang so well,
sounds like hell!
And so racist!!!

I bet they would jump at a chance to rub this zhit in our faces.

I'm liking all this talk. I love blowing things up. Let's just blow it up now...blow it up. It sucks anyway. Like strip malls... I loved watching them close during covid. I mean, do we really need another beef jerky outlet??Blow em up and blow "it" up...and keep 2020 great.

Is your question "how many will sing" or "How many will walk across to stand and observe"?
Walk across what from where to where? The band won't play. There is no where to walk to or from. The game should just be canceled to avoid all the related embarrassments on the way.

85 Scholarship players
375 band members
50K students
7.5K faculty and admin
550K alumni
17K at kickoff and 10K at end of game.
Hope the Horns win as there will be lots of sad folks otherwise.

Question...If the band won't play the school song, then what is the point of having a band? For them to play the fight song and a few other melodies? Get rid of them, and save the expense of sending them on away games, Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Years Day parades, and to bowl games. The seats they take up we can put paying fans into. Isn't that like another 300 or so seats? Or, replace them with the Alumni Band for home games.

I'd like to fast forward to 2030 and see how the malcontents on the team are faring. I hope that someone keeps track of them and does a "where are they now" report 10 years from now.

I hope I am wrong but I suspect most Texas athletes from this time period will be presumed malcontents. The previous generation has already locked up the "I refuse to work more than 40 hours". So to make a statement, this generation will have to double down by demanding a job but refusing to go if the work doesn't fulfill them or they are asked to do things that make them uncomfortable. Unfortunately, team sports often produce the leaders of the generation. They probably still do, but they are leading in the wrong way.

IMHO, it’s about time to declare war! Alumni mail back your rings to CDC,sign petitions, File lawsuits. BMD call for TH, Band Director, CDC to get fired now. Cancel scholarships to anyone that won’t participate in the eyes! I like the idea of using the Alumni band! This gets nipped in the bud or we lose the University of Texas forever! I’ll just start rooting for HS teams. I already walked away from the NFL! I Love the Texas Longhorns but this is not what the school stands for. We need a line in the sand!

My kids are 17 & 20 and my wife and I struggle motivating them to work hard. We force them to work. Literally! We are losing a generation of Americans. The zoomers as they’re called.

I am UT grad. My son and his wife are UT grads. They have four children and the oldest is 11. It won't be my decision, but I am still torn whether I want those grandkids to go to UT or not. Up to now, we have all taken it for granted, including the 11 year old that they would. What a sad day it is when I find myself questioning whether I want a grandkid at UT or not.

I will never understand why these players were allowed to go to the locker room and NOT sing the eyes. But they all stayed this week and if they keep doing this it will be a good thing. I just don’t like SJW Shinanigans. As long as that is all over Texas can move on! I don’t know what that means for TH?

So, they didn't stay and now they stayed. Proves it is all BS. If they are so steadfast in their principles, they wouldn't have stayed today no matter the consequences.

What a bunch of frauds.

Good question. Depends how this team finishes the season. Okie Lite and KSU will be tough games. ISU will be tough and WVU is toss up; however, they did lose to Tech. Kansas should be a win, but it's up there and the last time we had a coach on the hot seat, the Jayhawks won and Charlie was doomed. Not impossible or improbable TH could suffer the same fate. On the other hand, we might win all the rest of the games, but I doubt it. 6-4 maybe 7-3 finish most likely, but 5-5 or 4-6 is not out of the realm of potential finishes. Whatever happens, unless TH shows us something, 5-5 or worse should be enough to send him packing.

TH didn't mandate anything. Gee, big surprise. I think that explains what's wrong with the program. A real coach would say "get your asses out there or you'll be running laps and sprints on Sunday".

There is a reason 19-year olds cannot run for the Senate or President. Nor should they be allowed to your university or athletic program. If you do allow it, then the results will be predictably bad. What we need now is to find some adults who are willing to accept the responsibilities that come with the positions of school president, AD and head football coach.

These players have to be told that they are, in the end, in the entertainment business. The fans want to see them out there singing, or at least pretending to sing, The Eyes of Texas. You won't last very long in the entertainment industry if you show you do not care what the fans want.

They can refuse to play the school song, as ridiculous as it sounds. I will concede they have that right. But the school Athletic Director also has rights and powers. Among them is the decision whether to allow the band a ticket allotment for football games. He should pull them. No halftime music show. Dogs with frisbees are cool anyway. Or just walk Bevo to midfield and back. Maybe let him poop on the Big-12 logo while in transit.

Then let band alumni play our song post-game. I dont know the logistics of letting 50 and 60-year olds walk in the gates with tubas and slide trumpets, but I am sure there is a way to make it work. I could easily see that quickly becoming a very fun new post-game tradition. Just stay and have a post-game mini-concert. Current band members can watch on TV from a specially designated safe space. It's a win-win.

Things can be negotiated.
Minds can be changed.
Compromise can be found.
Let go of the anger. It's okay.

I've watched the Eyes sung after damn near every game for more than a few decades.
There has always been probably a 50/50 split of players actually singing and others just standing with horns up, sometimes mouthing a verse or two while conversing with each other.
They decided to stand together.
That's what everyone was asking for.
So now we call them "frauds" for doing what we asked?
Start counting how many are moving their lips?
I saw no kneeling or black power fists in the air.
Let it go.

No doubt the residents of Auschwitz share your opinion.

I feel as strongly about this issue as I have about anything in a while, but people of good faith can disagree without being ridiculously stupid and awful to each other. I want the song to stay, I want my memories of it being sung at graduations, family events, weddings and funerals and every sporting event associated with UT to not be tarnished by all of this fighting. And more than anything I want it to mean to everyone what it means to me, that we are all obligated to go out and make the world a better place because the eyes of Texas are upon us.

But damn, Auschwitz? Really Auschwitz? How the hell does that even come into this conversation. Do everyone a favor and delete that post.
