OTHER GAMES

I guess every conference should have one school whose deranged fans throw things onto the field (tortillas, snowballs packed with D batteries, etc)

Potential EOY Top 25 teams in conference:

OU
OSU
Baylor
ISU

Dark horses (being generous here):

UT
TCU
KSU
WV

Jacksonville won its first game of the season in incredible fashion. Skinny little kid just elevated off the practice squad yesterday kicks a 54 yard game-tying field goal late in the fourth quarter (longest FG he had ever kicked). Then, after Jacksonville holds Miami (our Malcolm Brown) on fourth and short to get the ball back, they get to fourth and eight just out of field goal range with 5 seconds left. Instead of throwing a hail Mary, they throw a quick pass over the middle and call an immediate time out with one second left. Then, the skinny little kid comes back in and wins the game with a 53 yard field goal. Awesome ending.

Baker Mayfield just uncorked a successful Hail Mary pass that went about 63 yards in the air to end the first half.

Watched the aTm v Ala game - ok ok don’t say it - amazing to watch a an with time when 6 men rush, yeah Ala rushed 6 often, heck sometime 7 and aggie picked them up more often than not.

Good game between Bills and Titans tonight. Seven lead changes so far. Titans just scored to lead by 3 with about 3 minutes left. Plenty of time left for the eighth lead change . . . we shall see. . . . Bills go for the win instead of the tie on fourth and one near the goal line at the end of the game, and the Titans stop the QB sneak. No eighth lead change. Titans win.

Some of the calls by NFL head coaches are downright dumb.

For those who didn’t watch, with 25 seconds left tonight and the Bills at the Titans’ two — down three — McDermott forgoes the trying FG (again from the two), goes for it and Allen is stuffed. I don’t get it. And of course, the ESPN genius analysts applaud McDermott for his decision, “building a culture in Buffalo.” Right. Building a culture of stupidity.

I like to think of those situations this way. What are the relative odds of winning the game? In this case, did the Bills have a better chance of winning in overtime (when they might not even get the ball first) or scoring from two yards out in regulation? Also, here's an interesting squib and highlight from NFL.com--

"Next Gen Stat of the game:
Derrick Henry reached 21.8 mph on his 76-yard touchdown run in the second quarter, the highest speed among ball carriers this season and the fastest speed as a ball carrier of Henry's career."

Their chances of winning by going for it there were certainly higher than their chances of winning in OT. It's not even a complex analytics decision, it's the clear-cut right choice. Doesn't mean it works every time - just like kicking the FG wouldn't work every time because you lose in overtime plenty to Derrick Henry and company...

It's like throwing to a wide-open receiver vs a covered one, and then the guy drops the ball. That result still doesn't mean you made the wrong throw...

That's certainly how I viewed it. I was just trying to be polite responding to the earlier post. ;)

No commentary on App State defeating Coastal Carolina this week? It’s the mountains of NC (Boone) against the beaches of SC (Myrtle Beach).

U of Washington at U of Arizona. On ESPN2, watching only to see if AZ can break their 18 game loosing streak dating back to October of 2019. One UW player injured and has been laying on field for close to 10 mins. Looks bad. Still hasn’t been carted of yet. Finally, carted him off. He’s not moving any body parts.

U of Arizona blew it in the 4th Qtr. Lost to Washington 21-16 after leading fir nearly the entire game. But they had only 1 QB on scholarship and 2 walk-on QBs that are frosh. The last quarter looked like a Three Stooges” short. That’s now 18 losses in a row and since 2019, they are 4-19.

By the way, SMU is undefeated and nationally ranked. Challenging Baylor for the best team in Texas this year here in the 8th week of the season. Bet you never saw that coming back in Mack's heyday...

Middle of the 2nd quarter:

Kansas 10
Oklahoma 0

Williams just threw a pick and Kansas is on the move. KU leads 20-3 in time of possession, and 12-2 in first downs.

Remember the Jayhawks didn't just lose 41-14 last week, it was 41-0 with a minute left in the game.

Michigan is showing the world what a historically good program can do when it’s patient with it’s coaching staff. They sure were wise not to let the grumbling malcontents run the show and ditch Harbaugh before he really had a chance. Good lessons to be learned in there.

#6 nationally ranked
6-0
Up 10-0 over Northwestern, late 2nd quarter.

Caleb Williams is single-handedly ending the potential Heisman for a half-season talk. Meanwhile, Rattler tries to hide the voodoo doll...
