OTHER GAMES

The ball is still live until the defending team holds it or it lays on the turf for several seconds. This play was called correctly. We always tell our players to pick up the ball and hold it on the punt cover to prevent this. Heads up play by the receiving team.

Over the years I've seen hundreds of punts blown dead with no one on the kicking team doing more than tapping the ball while standing up.
In this case a player with a knee.on the ground put his hand on the ball. Play is dead. Having to hold for several seconds is flat wrong. 98% of all commentators agree it was a bad call. The official even threw the beanbag and began signaling play over before the Memphis guy picked up the ball. Mississippi State got screwed.

10/9

Hard to take much interest in other games today, but there are some good ones.

#3 Penn State v #4 Iowa. The Hawkeyes are just the team to take the evil empire down. Iowa’s D is lights out, and their O is at least so-so.

Michigan v Nebraska. Yes this year’s Michigan team is for real, and yes Nebraska sucks.

Mich State v Rutgers. This Spartan team has quietly crept up the rankings without much fanfare. Possibly the toughest and hardest hitting team in a tough and hard hitting conference. Look for that to continue.

Wisconsin v Illinois. Even though a bit down, look for the Badgers to beat Bielema and U of I.

TCU at Tech — Colombi may be the most improved player of the year. He was pretty bad last year, but he’s played very well the last two games, resurrecting the Tech air raid of old. Patterson better win or they Frog fans will start getting restless. In Lubbock, but not cold and not much wind. This should be a good one. I’m taking Tech.

WV v Baylor. WV’s tough D front v Baylor’s O. Vintage unpredictable Big 12 game. WV for me.

Bama v aTM. Epic butt whoopin. NM.

Arkansas v Ole Miss — Pigs face off against a competent offense and a good coach.

Georgia v Auburn. Georgia is really, really good. Auburn is still Auburn— Good D, but their QB won’t perform well against an opposing good D. Dawgs today.

LSU at Kentucky. Big Ed’s on the hot seat as the Tigers drop one to Kentucky for the first time in a long time. Kentucky’s actually pretty good.

SC v Tenn. two great fan bases. Two mediocre teams.

#24 SMU v Navy. Navy is picking it up a bit and is showing some signs of life. But barring multiple turnovers, the Ponies run today.

ND v Va Tech. ???

#10 BYU v Boise State. If the Cougars get by this one, they have a real shot at crashing the playoffs—along with co-future Big 12 member Cincinnati.

Dyson and Hoover battled it out for sponsorship rights

11 point spread when I looked yesterday, calling this one 17+ -and I grew up in a family FROM the Champaign/Urbana area and who matriculated from the University.

Bama v aTM. Epic butt whoopin. NM.

Sponsored by Orville Redenbacher given how much popcorn will be consumed in this one. Line was approaching 20 yesterday before some buy back. Only reason it won't be much more is if Saban takes the foot off the throttle mid-3Q to limit risk of injuries to his second-teamers...

Arkansas v Ole Miss — Pigs face off against a competent offense and a good coach.

Texas needs to see piggy pull this one out to show last week was an aberration and that our loss to them was actually to a good team. A double-digit piggy win with less than a starting QB helps the 'horns.

Georgia wins big and shows they are still pissed over being #2
LSU is indeed up against a good KY team, but Ed O shows what the KY really stands for...somehow, LSU remembers to pack a defense and makes Kentucky squeal...

ND v Va Tech. ???

ND still shell-shocked over Touchdown Jesus not making a play for them last week. Va Tech has some players and wants to kick TDJ while down...look for overtime in this one.

TD Ark. A QBs scramble — looked like a designed run — then he hit a big WR who sat in an open spot. nice goalline O.

24-21 OM lead.

Ole Miss just went for it on fourth inside their own 40?!?!?!? (3rd Q with an Ole Miss lead).
Arkansas stuffed them, and took the ball on downs in Ole Miss territory.
I guess Mississippi is where riverboat gamblers come from.

And Ole Miss wins by one.

What’s with Baylor trouncing WV…?

BU has an offense all right.

The Big 12 is still the Big 12.

Penn State (with backup QB in because starter got dinged) just had three false start penalties in a row because home crowd was so loud lineman could not hear snap signal. Finally, ran for no gain on third and 28.

BYU getting worked by Boise. Down 13 late in the third, and just fumbled it away after achieving only their second 1st down since the end of the first quarter.

Aggies up 10-7 on Alabama. Hope this doesn't last. They are already insufferable enough after earlier today, acting like they beat us as Vicarious Sooners.

I swear, if A&M wins this will be my worst football since Jimmy Johnson stepped down as the Cowboys coach.

This is unreal.

And now Bama's first play after that, they fumble and A&M returns it for a touchdown. Hang on, refs conferring ... incomplete pass. Looks like the right call on replay.

And here’s where we all wake up. It’s 7:30 am on Saturday, October 9, 2021. Wake up folks—the big game with OU is starting at 11:00 am. Then tonight, Bama creams aTm.

Elsewhere, Nebraska was down 19-7 to Michigan and next time I look, Huskers up 22-19 entering the 4th.

Kentucky reaming LSU 35-14 halfway through the 4th.

VTech up 22-21 on Note Dame, who either benched Coan early or had him get hurt. He's only thrown 3 passes and Tyler Buchner has done the rest, in a mixed bag so far.

O'Brien was a curious hire by Saban. I keep thinking as long as he is there, Bama will suffer at least one loss per year

Bama D holds. And a nice punt return by the Tide. They’ll prolly do just enough to get the W.
