There’s a couple of watchable games tomorrow in Week Zero of 2021 college football.
Hawaii v UCLA. The Bruins are heavily favored, but the Bows/Warriors have a knack for surprising PAC teams early on. Todd Graham is a good coach. Unfortunately, the Bows’ defense looks to be about as tough as a rainbow farted out of a Mai Tai-drinking unicorn’s butt. But, they did add Pita Tonga—a disruptive DT who grad-transferred from Utah. That could help an otherwise weak D. The Bows have a really good QB—Cordero. Cordero will throw to Hawaii WRs Calvin Turner and Jared Smart, who will test UCLA’s shaky CBs. UCLA’s pass defense isn’t looking so swell. Look for a high scoring shootout. Go Bows.
Nebraska v Illinois. Nebraska is favored, but not in my house. Neither of these teams looks all that great, U of I is now coached by our old pal Bret Bielema. U of I beat the Huskers last year, helped out by turnovers. Nebraska will try to pass a lot with QB Adrian Martinez. Early season offensive jitters work against the Huskers. Illinois has a proven OL, but QB Peters is hot and cold. If Peters is on, look for an Illini win. Go Illinois.
