OTHER GAMES

There’s a couple of watchable games tomorrow in Week Zero of 2021 college football.

Hawaii v UCLA. The Bruins are heavily favored, but the Bows/Warriors have a knack for surprising PAC teams early on. Todd Graham is a good coach. Unfortunately, the Bows’ defense looks to be about as tough as a rainbow farted out of a Mai Tai-drinking unicorn’s butt. But, they did add Pita Tonga—a disruptive DT who grad-transferred from Utah. That could help an otherwise weak D. The Bows have a really good QB—Cordero. Cordero will throw to Hawaii WRs Calvin Turner and Jared Smart, who will test UCLA’s shaky CBs. UCLA’s pass defense isn’t looking so swell. Look for a high scoring shootout. Go Bows.

Nebraska v Illinois. Nebraska is favored, but not in my house. Neither of these teams looks all that great, U of I is now coached by our old pal Bret Bielema. U of I beat the Huskers last year, helped out by turnovers. Nebraska will try to pass a lot with QB Adrian Martinez. Early season offensive jitters work against the Huskers. Illinois has a proven OL, but QB Peters is hot and cold. If Peters is on, look for an Illini win. Go Illinois.

I’m cheering for the Fighting Illini in that match, no question.

Will it be an erotic experience for Bret Bielema if Illinois wins today. I for one would not want the big guy winking at me after the game. :yikes:

Dumb play by return guy. Put your heels on the 10 and don't step back.

That said, we never got a clear view of where on the field he gained possession. His momentum carried him into the endzone, where his knee touched down before he threw the ball. It is either Nebraska ball at the one or a touchback which comes out to the 20. NOT A SAFETY - ball was dead long before the attempted pass.

Ill QB Peters just got carted off. They’d better play some solid D to have a hope in this game.

The Huskers special teams sure could use some work.

First the botched punt return, now the missed extra point.

For years years I was a closet Husker fan because I loved that offense (think Tommie Frazier) and their fans, (think before our 1-9 ***** slapping of them in the Big 12 that cost them so much).

I'd root for the flesh eating flesh against them. Go Illini.

Adrian Martinez is ...according to my calculations...entering his 15th year at Nebraska
Agree
Not only that, he has been awful most of his 15 years including today.
You would think they could have found a better QB by now
On Cue he just fumbled and Illinois scored a touchdown

You know Alberts wants all the glory for resurrecting Husker football, and that means putting his stamp on the program. Frost will go, but who will replace him?

Ouch!

Hawaii’s punter’s knee went to the ground while he grabbed a low snap. It’s Matthew Shipley from Cedar Hill, Texas. UCLA ball in the red zone. 0-0 early on.

Utah-to-Hawaii grad transfer Pita Tonga is putting good pressure on UCLA’s QB. Bruins settle for a FG.

That sound you hear in the background is the notification that Trev Alberts has emails from Todd Graham, Les Miles, Art Briles, and Bobby Petrino.

If he's going to make a change, would love to see Alberts hire Mike Leach.

Meanwhile, Hawaii looks like Manny Diaz is their tackling coach. UCLA is driving and breaking many, many tackles. There is some fundamentally unsound defensive football being taught on the islands.

Bruins 10-0 early on.

Now a UCLA DL intercepts the ball and runs it down inside the 10. They may be about to break this thing open. Hawaii can’t tackle and they’re not giving Cordero any time to throw.

Poorly timed penalties have really harmed Huskers today.

How did the Center not think a ref responsible for looking directly into the OL would not easily see his bear hugging the NT?
