OTHER GAMES

Oregon State trying hard to upset Oregon in the mist and fog. The Beaver RB already has 130 yards early in the 2nd. Just had a nice drive from their own 5 down to the UO red zone but eventually settled for a FG. Oregon 14, Oregon State 10.

Oregon State hanging in there. Converted 4th downs in the red zone on its last couple of possessions and turned both into touchdowns. Currently trailing 31-26.

Oregon retakes the lead, 38-34. Oregon State drives down inside the 20 again but goes for it on 4th and 7 and the pass is tipped. In a lower scoring game trying to win via 2 FGs could have made sense, but I don't think they could trust their defense in a 38-34 game to let them try the second one.

With 2 minutes left and all 3 timeouts, it's not over, but they haven't shown much ability to get stops so far. Their best hope may be for Oregon to go into too much of a shell trying to sit on the lead.

First down works out for them as the Ducks run it up the middle for only a yard. Second down they fake the handoff and the QB runs for it - and he goes nowhere. 3rd down pass incomplete. Beavers will get it back with 1 timeout.

Oregon's gigantic nose tackle wears #3. A single digit number on a man that large looks really odd. The rest of the jersey material makes the numeral look really tiny.

Crazy sequence starting with ~45 seconds left and Oregon State having 2nd and goal at the 1. A QB sneak makes it right to the goal line and is called short. Both teams try to call timeout. Neither timeout counts because it goes to review. Call stands. 3rd and goal, QB sneak gains nothing at all and the QB gets injured at that.

Now the backup QB comes in for 4th and goal, and Oregon jumps offsides with contact before the snap, which is about half an inch of penalty. Then they line back up and the second-string sneaks in for a touchdown. Now Oregon State is up 40-38 with 33 seconds left and Oregon having only 1 timeout, but the Beaver kicker shanks the extra point - except Oregon was offsides again. He makes the kick the second time and OSU now leads 41-38.

Tech takes the lead in Stillwater then tries a surprise onside kick. Cowboys return it for a touchdown and retake the lead. Then after Tech gets the ball back, they throw a pick 6. Now 34-24 Oklahoma State and the Raiders are about to have their 3rd straight offensive possession.

Michigan just got screwed. Penn state had a 3rd and 3, and ran into a pile. After gaining about 2.5 yards the movement briefly stops and the refs blow the whistle. Then the pile falls forward and they give the Lions the extra yardage on the spot.

Now maybe the whistle came a little on the quick side, but it doesn't matter. He didn't have the yardage when it blew and at that point players start letting up, so you can't say the pile would have still fallen forward.

ECU was up 45-7 on SMU, but with half a quarter to go SMU has pulled within 2 touchdowns. Shades of A&M-UCLA here possibly.

Clemson scores another TD at the end of the first quarter. 31-0. ND is in deep doo doo when they face Clemson again if Lawrence plays.

Michigan State is shocking #8 Northwestern 17-0 early in the second quarter. OT--Michigan State, imo, has weird jerseys--dark green with the word "State" in oversized lettering in neon lime green on the front of the jerseys. No "Michigan."

Buffalo beats Kent State 70-41. Buffalo's RB, Jaret Patterson, recorded 409 rushing yards and 8 touchdowns. He has 301 yards and 4 TDs in his previous game.

He's now only the second player (Ricky Williams is the other) to have consecutive 300 yard games, and he just broke two of Ricky's records - most combined rushing yards in consecutive games, and most combined rushing TDs in consecutive games.

Kent State/Buffalo game was interesting...Buffalo pulled their running back with about two and half minutes to go instead of letting him go for Touchdown Number 9 on the day. His replacement promptly goes in. Kent State gets the ball back and the backup hits the receiver in stride at the Buffalo 5...only to see the receiver drop the ball.

If you had the O/U at 110, you were good...final was 70-41, Buffalo.

Interesting prop bet is who scores more today- the Buffalo FB team or their MBB team.

Northwestern scores first in the second half and pulls within 4. . . .Later, after scoring a TD to go ahead by 3, Northwestern gifts MSU with an unforced fumble and MSU gets a field goal--game tied at 20. . . . MSU gets go ahead filed goal. . . . Now Northwestern is down to 4th and 10 on a last gasp drive. They punt. MSU gets ball with 3 minutes left in the game. . . . MSU gets a first down. Big upset.

aTm and LSU both get stopped on their first drives. Mond gets a big run on the option on aTm's next drive with a 15 yard penalty tacked on for a late hit out of bounds. Then LSU commits pass interference on the next play. aTm at the LSU 20. . . .LSU stiffens, and aTm will have to try for FG. It's good from 42. 3-0
