Olajuwon into HOF

Yes, Russell was an unforgiveable oversight on my part. The rest don't measure up to Hakeem, even if every one of them are deserving HOFers.

just wanted to say

- Hakeem is my favorite athlete of all time, even more than Vince (I'm much older so hard to revere him that much) or Earl.

- ever wonder what a Russell - Chamberlain game would be like ? we had it in 1995 with the quicker smaller Hakeem vs the bigger more powerful Shaq. Same result too.

- the 1983 upset by NC State, when I was in the 9th grade, is by far the most painful memory in sports and outside the death of a family member and some other losses I have had in my personal life (friend, money, job) this will hurt for a lifetime. Hakeem said it took him many many years to get over it. The anticipation was so extreme that weeked in Houston after beating Louisville and after the city had so much pain by the Oilers, Rockets and Stros.... and then they lost it on a dunk.

One thing I respect about Shaq is his reverence for Hakeem. He knew he got schooled by Hakeem in the 95 series, owned up to it and acknowledged that the better team/player won.

Mikan was the best of his brief era but is not in the top 15 or 20 even of all time. Yao Ming is better than Mikan. So is Alonzo Mourning.

put Zo in their with Mikan's "diet and exercise" and I think Mourning would definitely dominate that era. You make it sound like all they had was bread and water and never ran laps or did pushups. I also think Yao would be better than Mikan, Yao is a very gifted player and can play in any era. If Mikan played today, he would be good but not great, just too fast a game. I think Wilt is much overrated and Walton is a better athlete but had tragic injuries.

Since the Rockets won five of the six regular-season games during the Bulls' first three championship seasons, and MJ played in the playoffs in '95, probably not, no.

The Rockets of that era matched up very well with the Bulls. Vernon Maxwell was a very athletic defender who gave Jordan fits. They had no answer for Olajuwon.

Basketball is all about matchups. Don't forget there was a controversial tip-in that shouldn't have counted in the season finale at SA that year. Rockets get that, they have the HC advantage against Seattle (and remember, that series was STRICTLY a homecourt series) and that dream matchup may very well have happened. Just like the Rockets didn't match up well with Seattle, the Suns and Bulls matched up horribly with Houston.

That's when I began to hate SA.

Not so much for that play, at the time, but while nursing my wounds after the end of that series with Seattle. Yes, champions have to be able to overcome occasional "bad luck", and yes they sometimes are the beneficiaries of insane "good luck" (Lakers vs. Sacramento a few years back anyone), but, nonetheless, that is when I began to hate SA--Big Shot Bob excluded, of course.
