OKC 28-2 over Seattle

Mac, and the thing is, I'd love to visit alot of those cities. But to me, they're not "world class" or big time. They're just large cities.

No offense, but getting an nba team doesn't make me want to visit okc anymore than before. And if the Blazers leave Portland, it wouldn't make me want to visit it any less. It's still Portland.

Mac and I'll take all three of those cities over okc. sooner hatred aside, there's just not much to the state/city. Sorry. It's science.

(1). Seattle probably got screwed. An owner whose first priority was making money would have tried harder for the larger market.

(2). Pro Basketball in OKC will last as long as this ownership group is in place. Then, it's gone.

Haven, I disagree. I think the fans will still be there. The thieves are a proud group who will be out to prove they're a big league city. They will love this team because it will be their only pro team.

Now, if another person bought it and thought "hmmm okc? Kansas City? Vegas? Seattle?" Yeah, I hear ya.

1. Durant will likely be a Sonic his entire career. He'll get a max deal as soon as he can get one. The way the NBA salary structure is set up, you have to trade salaries of equal value. Superstars rarely get traded for superstars. This is why Lebron will be in Cleveland forever despite the NBA desperately wanting him in NYC.

2. Imagine being a 24 year old making $15 million a year and having to live in Okie City. It's a nice enough city if you're a middle class type but even an NBA mid range guy is making $5 million per year. Where and how do you spend that kind of cash in OKC? (The answer is you don't and you save it.)

However, SAC, MIL, Utah and Memphis might all have the same problem....

I think Milwaukee and Memphis would be decent fun. It's a bit more expensive than okc as well.

If you're rich, it doesn't matter where you live. Most athletes aren't into diverse culture or dense population bases. They're happy with their multi million dollar house in the burbs.

I could see KD wanting to live in Texas though.

I could care less if they move, but I don't want any division realignment to accomodate them. They chose to lengthen their road trips. It's on them.

Ramathorn,

You're right, it's 159, not 16 in SA. What's an order of magnitude error here or there?

I got thrown off by the SA search site showing featured listings starting at $1.35M and did not scroll down far enough to see the listings far higher.

On the Austin link, you have to do the search manually. They do not provide a direct link capability for searches.

Homes > $1M
Dallas 443
Houston 589
San Antonio 159
Milwaukee 101
Memphis 131
Oklahoma City 98
Salt Lake City 294
Indianapolis 54

I feel sorry for the fans of Seattle. The previous owner knew what he was doing when he sold to the Okie. And while the Land Thief thought he wanted to move them, he struck gold Jerry when Katrina hit and he had a real live Beta Test Pilot Project in his very own kitchen.

And the Okies turned out in droves - over 18K/game. That's enough to make any owner drool. The folks there proved they deserve a chance and they will probably do well. The ones who should be sweating it is that little minor league basketball team in Norman. They will be hard pressed to maintain their attendance base. My guess is the women may start out-drawing them.

Hook'em!!!

I love the certainty to which Since73 believes in this grand windfall of recruiting benefits OU is going to reap from this and that Kevin Durant would even be some quasi-willing particpant. Proximity to an NBA franchise is something I've yet to see make a difference to a top college hoops recruit but you can go ahead and start holding your breath anyway dude.

Ok, somebody please explain to me how local radio and tv coverage pay the team. I would guess this would produce almost as much revenue as seats in upper level media size towns. OKC would have very little revenue on those fronts due to media size.

This move makes no sense to either the NBA or for the franchise. To me it sounds like Bennet is willing to spend money to be a "hero" in OKC. However when he starts losing money (when those young players start getting max contracts. I would guess the payroll is pretty low right now) it will look much worse to him then.

fishy, I agree. Even the filthy rich will eventually feel the sting of losing millions a year, if that were to happen.

Ramathorn,

Austin is now up to 440. My 438 was correct on the day I checked.

Go to the link provided above. Select Austin for the city. Select $1M for the lower price range. You should get a number near 440 depending on how many houses list/ delist between now and when you check.

Let me put this into terms we can all understand:

Seattle city council + Washington state government = Laura Miller

It's about capitalism, not giving in to "the rich". A professional sports franchise brings in a lot of money and taxes. Take for example the AAC. Aside from sports, look at all the property and sales tax made from all the apartments and condos, and restaurants and clubs around the AAC.

As far as the lawsuits, regardless of whether they succeed, the court is not going to issue an injunction to keep them from moving. And the Ford Center will become the Chesapeake Arena.
