NY Times on the Recruiting Battle for Scott

well, at least he got on the phone and handled it in the correct fashion, it seems.

i have no problem with this, just disappointed that we won't be seeing him in burnt orange.

that kind of blows but don't think I'd trade having major back for this. but who knows, just sucks that he went with someone else in the big 12.

That whole article is a very good look into the day or months in the life of a top recruit. So much from so many angles. And some wonder why a few go primadonna while others do not. I think he handled it well and made what he thought was the best decision. If this really had so much to play in it, then he made the right decision. I can see where, until proven otherwise, a kid would have questions about Major's ability at that position. But I think he will prove people wrong or answer those questions.

good article - thanks for the link
seems like a valid reason to me from a young running back's perspective... You would have thought this scenario would be thought of as a possible occurance.

would've been nice to have Scott - but I'm positive about McGee

Thats a pretty lame reason.

I guess Darian Hagans 5 years in the CFL as a DB and special teams player and his 3 yrs of total NCAA coaching experience (only 1 season as RB's coach) was enough to vault him to elite RB's Coach status. Above and beyond that of Major's. This is a poor excuse cooked up by the Scott's who are trying to avert attention away from the real reason he's going to CU, which is even more lame.

Side note: CU's RB's Coach was Southeast Regional Sales Manager for Transit Marketing Group from 1998 to 2004. Undoubtedly honing his football knowledge and skilled position coaching techniques.

Seems like some thought went into his decison. However, what he perceived as a potential weakness in having Major as his positions coach is actually a major reason (pardon the pun) he shoud have picked Texas. Major has a brilliant football mind and I don't believe that's limited solely to the QB position. I believe the Texas backs will absolutely flourish under Major's guidance.

I am excited about what Major might bring to our coaching staff. That being said, I am not surprised by this story. The kids question about Major's ability to coach him at RB tipped the scales toward family and CU. Good luck to the kid. Time to move on.

That makes perfect sense. Here is your RB coach who has never coached RBs before, who is a legendary player you have never heard of. Not exactly a failsafe approach to getting the best RB in the country...as we now clearly see. And this guy did want to go to Texas.

why didn't we wait to hire Major after Feb. 6th? ha. no, but really, hopefully someone at least discussed the impact.

It just goes to show you that there are all kinds of things that factor into someone's decison on where to play football.

Scott made the best informed decision for himself, and congratulations to him for doing that. He didn't play Texas like some other OOS recruits have, and there's no reason for anyone on this board to wish him anything but good luck.

I'd have loved to see him in burnt orange, but I have an idea both Scott, and Texas, are going to be just fine over the next few years.

Makes me feel better about the decision, though I continue to think you just can't compare the two coaching staffs. I mean, please. Seriously.

I fully admit that I want to mudhole Colorado, but I would have wanted that no matter what went down. I just want it a little worse now.

Applewhite's not off to a good start. He'll have to overcome this next year in recruiting for sure. It will be the first thing an opposing coach says to a RB we are courting.

What an awesome article and perspective. I must say this environement does not seem to jive at all with the picture painted by OB. At all. I got to think Mack does not make that move with Rucker knowing it is the clincher for Scott. Damn.

According to Jason Sookamel on ESPN-Austin just now (I have no idea how to spell that) Scott committed to the Texas coaches verbally way after the coaching change so that does not make any sense.

Jason also was also told he would not be admitted to the news conference and neither would any of Scott's high school coaches.

Something strange in all of that but it does not really matter.

I think that for sure Mack makes the change as stated above, for the betterment of the entire team. His move has jumpstarted other programs to look into creating that position. Rucker was the best man we had for this unique and now very important role.

It sucks to have it be a part of why Scott did not choose us. But I would not trade one for the other.

Having Major on the 40 is >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>than getting the services of a running back for 3 years.

Good luck to him.

The more I learn/read about Ketchum, the less I'm impressed...and I was never really impressed at all.

I think the guy makes us look really bad at times. Hell, maybe all of these "recruiting experts" operate the same way.

The recruiting sites/feeding frenzy is one of the more unseemly aspects of college football.

I make that trade 100% of the time.

Makes me feel much better actually. The way I look at it...we got Major out of the deal. Injecting some creativity into our offense will win us more games than d. scott.

With Major here he and Greg can double up on Mack and have Mack not be so vanilla and bland, which he is by design. Maybe he will help make Mack let Greg do what Greg wants to, be more open. The less Mack influence the better on that side of the ball. That is how Major can help.
