Depends on what the 'energy' is. All we have is a phenomena (expansion) caused by unseen (dark) massless force (energy). We have a symptom, without any significant information as to a cause. Discussions on properties (outside of the expansion phenomena) is meaningless without more information or a theoretical construct to address it.

Stat, to be clear though, we have some information on the expansion itself... which is to say we know that it is consistant for all space regardless of the presence of matter, and we know that the expansion is occuring at roughly 72 km per second per megaparsec. This is to say that if you place to objects which are otherwise unacted upon by any force about 46 light years away from each other... after one second they will be 46 light years apart plus one meter.

It is an incredibly weak force, but amazingly persistant.
