NFL Playoffs

In the mid-90's the best Mexican food outside of North America was at the Texas Embassy Cantina in London. Before that place opened, the best place was a hole in the wall in Hong Kong called Willie's Place. Unfortunately both are now just footnotes in history.

Late 80s, I spend the summer at a Young Life camp in British Columbia. I immediately get the nickname "Tex."

One day we're talking about food and I mention fajitas. People looked at me funny until one of them pipes in, "Oh Fajita Pita from Jack in the Box?" Then everyone nods knowingly.

I ordered an enchilada in Wyoming once, I almost hurled! Just thinking about it makes me turn green.

Nevada sportsbooks won $10,780,319 off of $145,939,025 bets on the Super Bowl, according to the Nevada Gaming Control.
This includes futures (odds to win Super Bowl).

We ran across The Texas Embassy Cantina on a trip to London while I lived in Germany.

2019 Season

A player left off this list since he did not finish at Texas was Derick Roberson but he played a role in the Titans beating the Pats last night, harassing Brady quite a bit. Completely destroyed one of those famous Pats' 3rd-and-15 screen plays. On the season, he had 3 sacks in just 3 games. I imagine they will play him more next season.

You might recall, coming out he was a high 4-star, top 100 natl and the highest ranked player in our 2014 class (higher than Heard even). I thought he was destined for stardom but he only played one season with us (RS FR) and finished at Sam Houston St. He went undrafted but obviously never gave up.

I guess Qb's matter?
That is a wild stat.

Yes, just 3 guys in 17 years in pretty wild

Over the last 22 Super Bowls, the NFC has had 18 different QBs (the repeats were Eli, Wilson, Warner & Rodgers)

Back in the 2017, the Houston front office wanted a QB but was split between Pat Mahomes and Deshaun Watson. I was pimping Mahomes at the time, but the Chiefs made the decision for the Texans (h/t to the Bears for their earlier blunder with Trubisky, lol)

Next Sunday these 2 QBs will face off in the second round of the playoffs, which is pretty cool. Should be good

Also, the NFL overtime rules are doodoo.
The college game trumps the NFL in at least two major ways. The overtime system and replay review. The NFL procedures for both are so ridiculous as to be comical. The college game got it right on both accounts.

How many college series begin on the opponent's 25? Almost none; so why start there in OT? The NFL's version is basically carry on with the game with only a TD during the first possession ending the game. After the first possession, the first score ends the game. Very fair to both sides.

Both replay systems rely on the same people potentially overruling themselves. Why not just have a game official in the reply booth who can call penalties and is in all of the officials' discussions. The game plays on unless the booth official throws his electronic flag. No challenges.

It isn't with the way today's rules favor offenses and possessions get a free start at the 25. It was when touchbacks were out to the 20 and scoring was much lower.

That's easy to fix though: no opening kickoff. First team to get the ball starts on their own 10. Now it'd be 50/50 with no coin flip advantage and some coaches would even reasonably pick defense first. College OT not only is too cheaply in scoring range, but it's not 50/50 either. It's a meaningful edge to go 2nd and know how many points you need to get.

Larry David, of all people, had some pretty, pretty, pretty ... pretty good advice for the Jets going into the 2018 NFL draft. of course, they ignored it

If it's the last 16 Super Bowls, then that includes the weird power outage year in New Orleans between San Francisco (Kaepernick) and Baltimore (Flacco).

Ding ding ding

Got it. That was the Harbaugh brothers bowl, with the weird power outage at halftime in the Superdome that almost vaulted SanFran to victory.

Could have been a SuperBowl victory for the much maligned Kaepernick (which would have made the rest of the history with him even more interesting/tricky).

Also, worth noting, obviously, is that the same matchup of franchises is high with oddsmakers for this year's finale.
...Flacco now injured with Denver

Though doubtful LJ would be LJ of today if he had gone there

I always hated him because he played like crap most of the time, except for when he played the Texans when he was always perfect - the second coming of prime Joe Montana
