New York is having a rough time

3 weeks ago, Cuomo was screaming “We need 40,000 ventilators!!!!”

Now its, “We’re donating 50 ventilators to Maryland.”

People are texting dick-pics to De Blasio's social distancing Gestapo hotline. Link. I don't condone sending dick-pics, but I'm torn on this. Lol.

Turns out De Blasio is the answer to the question - what do you get when you cross a penis and a potato?

Good thing for New York. I think they are at the end of the virus outbreak. Comparing their confirmed cases to the seralogy tests shows they already have 60%-90% of their population infected. It is bad, but better to be over with it.

Another thing that was bad for New York is that they were exposed early to the virus. It looks like the virus is already mutating to be less infectious and dangerous. Good news for us in Texas. Good news for all of us for the next few years.

I just wanted to stop i and again say, I don't give a damn what is happening in New York, that city and state suck the big one.

The question is how much aid should we taxpayers give to NY? They were in very serious trouble,Very serious, before the virus.
Yes they were hardest hit so maybe a small amount but they should not try to fix it all off the backs of Taxpayers .

I don't mind aid to actually help fight the virus and some to get people by during the lockdown. However, I'm not a fan of bailing out state and local governments and their pension systems.

MrD
You know Cuomo and others will use this to try to bail them out and Pelosi and Schumer will fight to get them billions.

That would be fine. Best if it is true charity backed up by production and savings. In 1950 adding a little debt to tide people over wouldn't be a horrible idea, still not totally wise. But in 2020, the government causes the problem then acts like they are the savior and they give away our children's and grandchildren's future to do it.

And it is always state gov, local gov, and corporate cronies who get the money.

It is the world's largest wealth redistribution scheme. The arg-Robin Hoood function.

I would also have less problem with it if we weren't so deeply in the hole on frivolous things. Running a massive deficit in a real crisis is a defensible thing to do even if the specifics and causes are debatable. We aren't in financial trouble because of the 20-30 percent of GDP deficits that we ran during WWII or the 8-10 percent that we ran during the Great Recession (as dumb and excessive as that was). It's the 3-5 percent that we run every year whether we're in a crisis or not that really buries us.

It's like gaining weight. It isn't the 8,000 calorie binges on Thanksgiving and Christmas that makes people fat. It's the 3,500 that they eat every day without significant exercise that makes them fat.

True. And if we didn't run that 3-5% deficit every year, we (our government) wouldn't be desensitized to running deficits even in difficult times.

We would value contingencies and disaster preparedness. Even if you didn't want to save money in an account or create a strategic stockpile of emergency goods, insurance policies could be sold to the governments that would come due in case of pandemic or natural disaster. It is another type of savings where 2 parties bet against the other. That allows the "correct" amount of money to be spent because both sides have skin in the game and incentive to make money on the deal

Of course if insurance policies could be written for pandemics you wouldn't really need government. You could have private pandemic or health organizations that would be paid out of an insurance type of situation. There job would be ready to respond to the crisis in the fastest and most efficient manner.

The more I think about it the more anarchic I get.

I think they need to work out their issues on their own. Let that cess pool fix their own issues.

Projections have a confidence variable. If one is ichsrged with planning, one always wants to address worst case.

Sadly 80% that require intubation do not survive. Medical staffs are changing therapeutic procedures on the fly as more is learned. Very much is still unknown about propagation and infection mechanisms.

Just recently Italian investigators found COVID-19 viruses on airborne pollution particles. Hoping for a lot of UV and heat in those circumstances.

So Cuomo released of more than 1,500 inmates

Predictably, within days, one of them had raped a 58 year-old woman in a school parking lot

Democrats' policies at work
