New UT commercials

If they needed new ads I'm sure that Matthew McConaugheywould have loved to do the voice-over, and he has a great Texas voice. They could even do an ad about the life of the opera singer. Those are a real step down from the last series though and that's a shame.

Steak, it's what's for dinner!

For all you TV guys out there, please be aware that I played high s school football so I know what I'm talking about.

I don't believe everything on TV sucks, so I watch a lot of it. With that base of experience, I proclaim the new commercials as suckage.

While the voice may be renowned for its operatic qualities, it is within that universe of entertainment that the voice should be confined. Listening to it on the new commercials makes me want to pick up a baseball bat, walk into the office next door, and . . . wait a minute. I wanted to do that anyway. Please disregard the previous sentence.

The Cronkite "We're Texas" ads took it to a level where no one else could compete. Nebraska tried putting out some weinie imitation ads with Dick Cavett, but he couldn't pull it off.

These ads are too close to the cookie cutter variety. About all that's missing is someone in a lab coat staring into a test tube while doing a Hook 'em Horns.

Come on guys, the ads are OK, the voice is OK, and Barbara Conrad is a distinguished alumnus of UT. But the ads are just somewhat generic. They don't sound or look any different than the ads for 100 other schools. That is what is troubling about them. We're Texas, and we want something to be really proud of, and humor could be a part of it, like having the "most interesting man alive" do the spot, or something like that. Or have Bevo do the spot.
How about writing our own ads and posting them here? Then the overpaid ad agency could eliminated and UT could just take a couple of our ideas and shoot the commercials on somebody's cell phone.
