New UT commercials

The agency that does this work can produce better work in house. I know. This is not good...budget high or low.

The voice really brings the spot down.
 
Is it just me, or did you see the sonogram with a hook em horns. I'm pretty sure I saw that as somebody's sig on this here board.

You guys are being way too critical of these...

Conrad may not have as awesome of a voice as Cronkite (I don't think you will ever find one), but I like her in these. It has the same element of... nobility, I guess. You can't help but listen.

But yeah, I kinda wish they weren't all the same image. I like "One" the best.

And if "Three Words" is the worst they could come up with, I'm please. I think it looks just like every other university commercial that I've seen, except less expected, which makes it better IMO.
 
We don't need no stinkin' new commercials. Cronkite's were wonderful and should become a tradition.

This is likely another of Chris Plonsky's "External Relations" failed attempts at changing successful things at the University of Texas. Remember when she tried to change Hook'em's look back in the 90s? That stark piece of crap lasted one year.

Some things should NOT be changed; Walter Cronkite's UT announcements are one of those. We should still be listening to Walter 100 years from now, and not some opera singer with an accent.
 
Cronkite's voiceover is a tough act to follow. That said, I think the new spots would've had more punch had they featured a "trademark Texan" sound rather than an alumnus with an impressive c.v. and a voice that few would recognize or appreciate.
 
To me the voice had nothing to do with the shittiness that these commercials are. Sure, with Cronkite they would be better, but the video and the text and just complete ****. If we are having budget shortfalls, don't make new commercials since the old ones still kick so much ***. Wait until we have some extra money to do it right, not some rushed ****** job that is going to make us look like idiots. Still not as bad as the okie football player holding the ballerina thing they used to show.

Side note, will the Big 12 commercials this year have the quitters in it or can we edit out the segments including nebraska and colorado?

were you involved in the making of these spots or do you just really like them? sorry i'm criticizing them so much, but this is one area where i actually know what i'm talking about.

i haven't even touched on the voice... its freaking horrendous. i read that she is great opera singer, but that certainly doesn't translate into being a good narrator. i make movie trailers and tv commercials so narrators are a big part of what i do. if a narrator is not good it can kill a spot no matter how great the visuals and sound effects are. these spots have bad visuals, nearly non existent music, bad copy, and a horrible narrator.
 
No, I wasn't involved with these spots. As I've stated they're not as good as Cronkite's, but he's gone.

Conrad is a Longhorn that we can all be proud of and that's good enough for me.

I'm not going to give my age, but I'd be willing to bet that I already started my career in TV when you were still in high school, if that.
 
I don't care who she is but her voice is crap. She doesn't sound TEXAN, she doesn't sound like she is from TEXAS. I'd rather look at BEVO for 30 seconds that watch that garbage.

We're not a freaking MAC school, WE'RE TEXAS and we deserve better than this.

Waste of $$$ and of brain cells watching it

When I think TEXAS I don't think at all about anything in that commercial.
 
Great Taps, you have a lot of experience in the TV business. Guess what, most of the **** on TV sucks, which means going by the odds, you have helped produce some **** in your lifetime. These adds are **** and they would be **** if I watched them on mute with closed captioning because even Cronkite couldn't have made these commercials any better. Frankly, I'm ashamed to be a Longhorn, because 4 of the 5 of these ads are the exact same thing video wise. Are we that lazy that we can't change it up a bit? Coulnd't we have sent some interns out and filmed some parts of our campus rather than some animated **** with fake rolling clouds? And yah, making the tower light up with "1" is cool and all, but it would be a shitload cooler if it were real and it wasn't in 4 of the 5 ads. It almost seems like we don't light the tower with a 1 often enough to have filmed it, so we had to do it with CGI.

Soooooo.... 4 different voice-overs for the same video?? The new commercials are not bad and her voice is fine, but having essentially just 2 commercials (videos) seems odd if not a little disappointing.

I think anything after the Cronkite commercials will simply be disappointing- the old commercials made me well-up with pride-- new ones don't seem to have quite the same effect.
