I did not mean to ridicule the bible, which I read regularly and believe is the most important book or set of books in history.
Nor do I think deep religiosity is something to be sneered at; the two most important people in my life are/have been very religiously oriented. They also read books besides the bible and understood that much of it is the mythology of a bronze age people who did not have the advantage of modern science and had to try to figure things out via other means.
Christie reacted in a very irate way when questioned about evolution. He clearly thought it was a stupid question he should not have to be answering. I agree with him. There are a lot of compromises politicians have to make to get elected. All those democrats have to act like abortion is the coolest thing since anti biotics. For example. They have to act like affirmative action is holy writ from the constitution. If they don't, they are toast.
That is why I brought up the bit about Christie and evolution. I love listening to the guy because of his abrupt, in your face manner. Even if I don't agree with him much of the time, I find that refreshing. But when he steps to the larger stage he is going to have to deal with the fact that a sizable proportion of the really active republican base is bonkers on the subject of religion. And he will have to make a series of choices based on what they want to hear.
Good luck to him.
