NCState Game Thoughts

Didn't want to create a new thread but just finished watching South Carolina eke out a win versus ASU and saw former Longhorn Sara Hattis on the ASU bench - don't think she got into the game.
She played in first half...I think 2 personal fouls

There is a huge opening to the Final Four for the Longhorns now. I think we can beat Stanford. With Breanna Turner hurt for ND, there is no guarantee they win their next game. Even if they do, they will be suspect the following game against us due to not having her........or she not being at full strength. I think things are lining up very nicely for a trip to Dallas ! Much better to be optimistic than the other way. May live happier........... and perhaps longer.

I WISH we could watch The Game (Stanford/KSU0, but sadly I have to suffer through UConn, it looks like.

Can you watch via WatchESPN? Or, if you have Directv, you're really lucky because they have every game on alternate channels.

for all our struggles, we shot 45.5% from the field, 38.5% from BTA and 82.6% from the FT line and we scored 84 pts. A total we only exceeded six times this season.

Yeah, we got a lot to clean up and work on, both offensively and defensively, but it wasn't all bad. We got double digit scoring from four players. Ariel, as poorly as she shot and as few minutes as she played, had eight pts. We outrebounded them 41-28. We blocked eight shots.

True, we had 19 TOs, but we forced 14. We do have to defend better without fouling. Putting NCS on the line 29 times kept them in the game and almost won them the game. I wish Khaleann was available. We really could use her in the post rotation. She and her sister are the two most physical posts we got aside from Mide.

Doesn't Coach Aston have a couple wins over Stanford including at Maples? They pretty much have run the same offense so I'm stymied as to why some fans think she can't coach against them.

Plus we had 29 pts. from our bench and they had 5. We played a VERY good team and won. Celebrate. They beat ND, Duke, FSU and Louisville. Our win was tremendous.

So good to see what Sutton is capable of. Karen says we haven't even scratched the surface with her yet! :yippee:

What has killed this team the most is how inconsistent we are from one quarter to the next within a game. Yesterday at home, we go up on NC State by 13 points to end the quarter. We have all the momentum, and a chance to demoralize them if we can at least maintain that lead at halftime, or perhaps build on it. Instead, we act like we have forgotten how to play basketball. We give up just about all of our lead and the momentum.

Granted, yesterday's first quarter had all of our jump shots falling. The team thinks it's gonna continue in the second quarter, so they keep launching jump shots early in the shot clock instead of reversing the ball and trying to find a better shot. The jump shots don't fall, and it allows NC State to gain confidence as their shots start to fall.

Honestly, I don't recall recent Texas teams ever being so Jeckyll and Hyde during a game. This has pretty much happened the entire season. I still remember how putrid we were in that second quarter at Stanford. It is an issue that has not been resolved after 30+ games.

Three of our starters were in foul trouble - different gripe I know :whiteflag:but that was the difference between 1st and 2nd

Stanford is tearing up KSU's zone defense way worse than they shredded Texas' man defense.
Yes, they are. Very surprised because the game is at KSU.

Having watched both men's and women's tourneys for years, what I've learned is that when a 1 or 2 seed has a scare (especially in the first round) like Stanford did yesterday against New Mexico State, they don't typically have a scare the next game. They come back much more focused. It's kind of like the gods give the underdog one chance to pull the upset, and if they let it slip through their fingers, then that 1 or 2 seed takes it out on the next opponent and puts the game out of reach very early in the contest.

Last year, Stanford almost lost at home to South Dakota State in the second round at home after trailing the majority of the game. Next game, the Cardinal upsets Notre Dame in the Sweet 16 in Lexington, KY.

There are so many women's teams this season who are pretty inconsistent from game to game; so, making a prediction based on a team's most recent outing is like fools' gold.

Not in this case. Brianna and Ariel picked up their fouls early in the first quarter. Brianna extremely early. Ariel picked up her second foul with like 5 minutes remaining in the first quarter. And, those two players only scored 2 points between them in the initial quarter.

Did that third starter get in foul trouble in the second quarter? I don't recall.

I thought Lang had a lot of bench time in the 2nd. I do remember a lot of bench player minutes in the 2nd. Wait didn't Joyner come out? The game was so intense and stressful I can not say lol

Yes. We had four starters in foul trouble in the first half. Karen talks about it in her post game interview over on Texas Sports. Can't seem to get a link. She also talks about junk defense and many other issues we have questioned. The woman is far from clueless about what they did right and wrong. We have an outstanding coach. We haven't been to Sweet 16 three times in a row in how long???? Brooke said it best - it's now the expected standard when you come to Texas. Soon it will be Elite 8 and...

The reason that this team is so inconsistent from one quarter to the next is because they're not consistent on the offensive end of the court. Which is why they have had so many scoring droughts. Coach Aston has obviously done a great job in rebuilding the program but that doesn't mean that you can't question some of her coaching abilities like running better offense as a head coach and being more flexible on both ends of the floor.

So to reiterate if I may; the reason this team is so inconsistent is because they are inconsistent? Well dang, just be consistent and case closed. Anybody got a way to get this pertinent information to our coaching staff, stat?

As bad as you say Coach Aston has been, I'm surprised the team has won 25 games.
I didn't say that Coach Aston has been bad. Coach Aston is a good coach and if you look at what she's been able to do at Texas to get them close to being an elite program again has been great. Every coach has their strengths and weaknesses. I just think that Coach Aston still needs to improve as a coach on the offensive end of the floor and be more flexible on both ends.

Watching video of her in HS before her injury and watching her this season, there is a big difference, but she has shown improvement all season. When she adds consistent scoring, she will be extremely difficult to stop. As with Joyner and Jada, the best is yet to come.

I tweeted her as well. She has a chip on her shoulder about Texas, IMO. I've tried really hard to like and appreciate Lobo, but the truth is, I don't. In the end, the team pulled it out against any and all odds, including a really good NCSU team. #SurviveAndAdvance #HookEm

She is SO UConn biased, it is very unprofessional, IMHO...

I have felt that way the whole year, about how they act like they hate to give Texas some attention. But when you really earn it the way Texas have. You can't ignoring them in the press and talk show's anymore. But they try their best though. Hoopgurlz ESPN really kill me.It always seem's to take so long to put a article up about Texas. But let it be UConn. It's there 10 minutes after their game.
Just Saying!!!!!!!!!
