NCAA Women's Selection Show - (8) in Greensboro Regional

moooo, it dosent make since to me either that Iowa st. got a 7 and we got an 8. If they did do this for attendence purposes then they should have given Texas a 7 seed in another region for it to make since. Shame on you committee, shame on you all

we got screwed. arizona state and iowa state seeded better than us? wtf? arizona state didn't beat a top team at all this season. not to mention we beat them in their own gym. i don't disagree with maryland being #1, as they had a very tough schedule. i don't understand putting uconn and rutgers in the same region either. this bracket sucks altogether. the committee did a crappy job this year. having said all of this, i'm glad we've taken a step back in the right direction. one thing's for sure, we certainly don't have anything to lose if we get to play uconn.

LSU and Rutgers should have been switched so that UNC didn't get LSU in New Orleans. Some of these bracket choices make no sense. LSU has the easiest road considering they start in Baton Rouge and then go to New Orleans. They never have to play more than an hour away from home until the Final Four in Florida which is just a few hours away as well.

I am just glad we are in. If we get past Minn, the UConn match up is beginning to sink in with me. We beat DePaul on the road and DePaul came within 1 point of beating UConn. Hmmm. We might match up well against the #1 seed in the tournament. Could be fun. Just got to get past Minn. Here is what I found on that team:

They went 11-7 in the Big 10 against teams like Purdue, Iowa and Ohio State. They lost to Viginia by 10 a team we almost beat on the road losing by 3 to what everyone said was a bad call by the refs in the final seconds. They were out in the first round of the Big 10 Tournament and many considered them to be on the bubble for the NCAA bid.

i've seen minnesota play this year on the big ten network. they are very much like iowa state, and very well coached. it will depend on which texas team shows up -- our matured end-of-season team, or our spastics young-uns that we saw so many times throughout the course of the season. if we play like we have for the past several games, we should be okay.

Yeah, I saw Minny play in Hawaii and they are a solid team.

I like our chances - but yes, it does depend on which team shows up!

i'm with you, rexy, i'm glad we're back in. i hope we play our best. that's all one can really ask for. it has been both painful and rewarding watching this team develop this year -- but more rewarding than anything. our coaching staff has done an awesome job!

Me, too, but mostly because of Geno......what a p*&ck he is!!

Dales is saying they may get it all this year...

Please God, don't let that happen!!

This is CRAZY!!!!

I think if we don't beat UCONN (

) then Rutgers beat them and heads to the final four.

I sure wish we were in the Spokane bracket.
I'm off to purchase my OKC tickets.

Look, the reality is that the fans haven't shown a willingness to travel. What has played out is much as I opined yesterday (as well as to those few who went to KC), which is that we become fodder for another region to actually come out and see (or cheer against). Gail still has a draw in that part of the country and the non-Texas, pro-Gail people will probably be out there in a greater number than will the Texas partisans.

Attendance in KC was ABYSMAL. There is no other way to put it. We barely filled one section of the lower part of the arena...we were vocal, but the numbers were not there. Iowa State on the other hand (as one example) filled what seemed like half of the lower level for the women. Our turnout for the men was not much better (I also had attended the semifinal game they played against O-Who).

The trip to Bridgeport is actually doable for not much more money than other regions would have cost, especially for those that have points and/or miles that can be used. The flight is $320, hotel and rental car add another $250 or so...if you travel with someone, then some of those costs go down even more (I am doing this one solo at the moment).

I just hope that they can give us 40 strong minutes in each of those games...they cannot afford to spot UConn 15-20 points like we were doing with Baylor and OSU (not to mention others during the regular season) and expect to come back.

mb, $500 buys our groceries and $4/gallon gas. As big a fan as I am and as much as I'd like to travel with the team, that's a lot of money in these difficult economic times. I'll sure be decked out in my burnt orange and screaming my head off at the TV, though.

The Gophers use 3 guards and two posts, same as the Horns. They are similar in height. They have an eight player rotation with two guards and a post providing relief. One of the guards plays just under 10 minutes.

Fox is their do everything player. She’s a first team All Big 10 selection. She’s first in ppg (17.0), steals (2.48), FT% (83.2), minutes (36.5), FGs made and attempted (194-448). That’s 143 more FGs attempted than the second closest player. She’s tied for first in number of FTs made with 99. She’s second in assists with 130 (4.19 apg). 131 assists tops the team. She’s second in 3pt% at 40.6 (#1 is at 40.7). Ohm at 61-150 3pters made and attempts ranks first in all 3pt categories (made, attempted & %). Fox is also second in blocks with 20 (24 leads the team).

They have four players that have started all 31 games (6-2 F/C Soph Ashley Ellis-Milan, All Big 10 honorable mention); Fox, a 5-9 Jr. G; Leslie Knight, 6-1 Sr. F, second team All Big 10; and Brittany McCoy, a 5-10 Soph G. Katie Ohm, 5-11 Soph G, has started the last 12 games, replacing 6-0 Soph G/F who started the first 19 games. As noted above, Ohm is the long range bomber and a very good one, as is Fox. Ellis-Milan is the top rebounder at 7.2 with Knight second with 5.9 rpg. McCoy leads the team in assists with131 and is second with 49 steals.

They average 67.4 ppg but give up 62.9ppg. They don’t appear to be that good defensively, allowing opponents to hit 42.3% of FGs and 33.7% of 3s. They force 18.6 TOs and give up 16.6. They are 7-5 in the last 12 games since Ohm has started .

They are definitely beatable if the “good” Texas team shows up. I don’t know if the Horns can spot them 12-15 pts and come back, though. Others have posted that they have seen them play so they can give a better idea of what type of offense and defense they run and how the Horns match up with them.

Fox is the real deal. A great team leader and a good shooter - BUT I saw her get into foul trouble and it really affected the team, big time.

If I remember correctly, they play a more fast paced game, not run and gun by any means, but they will get up and down the court.

They did not play tenacious defense, but they were solid. They played some zone, but that was at the very beginning of the season, so that could have changed.

Creme, Hays, Jackson, Mowins & Voepel of ESPN all pick UConn to win it over Tennessee in the finals. Only Mowins differs in that she picks UConn over UNC. Mowins did pick the Texas - UConn game as the best potential second-round matchup.

BOOOO to the seeding. But the person who talked about the fact that fans would not travel if we were in Baton Rouge is correct. We'd probably have the same amount of people in BR as we did in KC. Just a few fans and player parents. The men's tournament was the next day and none of the Texas fans in town bothered to come for the women's game. Ugh

I'd love to make a trip out of it and go to NYC. It's not the money that I am hesitant to go- but it's the fact that we are playing Sun and potentially Tues rather than Sat and Mon. I really can't miss 2/3 days of the work week!
