Coach "Heart Break", Rick Barnes. still has 0 Basketball National Championships. Found this jewel on his Bio: "Barnes is known for consistently blowing it in March and kinda sucks."

Btw, the NMSU Aggie mascot looks like an outlaw who’s about rob a train. Nothing wrong with that, just a totally trivial observation.

The academy award for the day goes to Roy Williams for not blowing a gasket on national TV while UNC was blowing a 25 point lead against Baylor.

No he is no longer the HC, but TV showed him mire than the UNC coach.

Good game between New Mexico State and Arkysaw. Was hoping for NMS to knock them off, but Pigs won 53-48

Meanwhile, mom's hopes and dreams of free furniture (save for the sales tax) remain alive.

Best game of the day (for me anyways): #1 Baylor losing to #8 UNC 93-86. Love It!!

I watched the overtime. It was exciting, but that was not quality basketball by either team. Sloppy passes, missed dunk, bunch of missed FTs, nobody helping out teammates, etc - looked more like a really unusually athletic pickup game.

Cue the appropriate ominous music ...

Easy shots are being missed by both teams. You know those trick basketball rims like at the State Fair Midway carney games—where it almost always bounces out? That’s kinda what it’s looking like at times for both the Irish and Tech.

Obanor is coming alive for Tech. 22-18. Late first half.
Tech has Obanor, Santos-Silva, and Williams down low. Keep working it in the paint. And keep up that D pressure.

Notre Dame is used to scoring 80-85 points per game…

2 O rebounds in a row and a put back, with under 5 seconds left, for ND to close out the half. Result: Tech only up by 1 at half.

Adams calm and Mr nice guy (while under much pressure) as usual. The world needs more people like him.

Tech a lot more physical than the Irish. Tech playing their game, getting the boards.

39-33 Tech

Getting to the mid 2nd half.

Big XII is representing well, already 2 teams in the Sweet Sixteen with a chance to get three more by the end of the night. Poor Baylor.

ND living and dying by the 3. Right now they’re living. Tied it up with some 3 point shots.

I like our chances against VTech and Purdue, for the same reason.

As @HornDawg1957 pointed out, the ACC sucks defensively. And out of conference, VTech has not faced a ranked team all season. Thus, they have zero experience facing a good team with a good defense.

The same is pretty much true of Purdue. The Big 10 is just as bad defensively as the ACC, if not worse. The only Big 10 team in the top 50 is #43 Indiana, which barely squeaked into the tourney. Purdue split 2 games with Indiana, including a squeaker in the last game of the regular season. The only other Big 10 team in the top 100 is Illinois at 93 (which Purdue beat twice). On their non-conference slate, Purdue's only ranked opponents were UNC (which sucks defensively) and Villanova (which is only okay defensively, and which Purdue lost to, at home).

The bottom line is that neither VTech nor Purdue has faced a challenge quite like Texas all season. Either could respond well and blow us out of the building. But there is a very real chance that neither of them is up to the challenge.
Interestingly, the committee is putting the no-defense Big 10 to a test. If the bracket holds, the three Big 10 teams with 3 or 4 seeds (Purdue, Wisconsin, and Illinois) will each face a top-12 defense in the second round (Texas, Houston, and LSU).
So far, the too Big 10 teams have wilted when facing good defenses. Here’s to hoping Purdue continues the trend.
