Federer is a warrior but he doesn't play many 5 set matches....of course who does. Looks like only the 2nd set was close....the other 3 have been very lopsided.

Federer usually comes up with the goods when he needs it.
 
Federer wins 4 games in the time it takes me to take a shower. he's possessed right now. this match appears to be over.
 
Little scare there as Roger starts the game 0-30, but wins 4 straight points to hold his serve. 2-0 in the 5th.
 
wow, can't believe he got broke in the 5th.... maybe it'll be a 5th set marathon! damn i have to leave now too... dammit!
 
Roger breaks right back! Started the game up 40-0, only to get to deuce before finally winning the break.

Damn, that really would have sucked if he got beat. Soderling / Del Potro ratings wouldn't have been pretty for NBC...
 
Federer gets it done.

He needs to win this tournament to really make him the greatest player of his generation. Although personally I don't think it is close with all he has accomplished, this will give him the career grand slam and finally a win on the surface that has plagued him for so long. There won't be the asterisk next to him which at the bottom of the page indicates that Nadal beat him 3 years in a row at the French final.
 
Yes I know.

But the win this year will be without Nadal. And it will be the win on the surface that matters this year and in the long run...giving him the career grand slam. When added to his resume he will no doubt be considered the best player of his generation.....Not the best player of his generation outside of the french and outside of Nadal.
 
Roger faces Soderling in the final on Sunday. Federer is 9-0 against him.

Roger beat him in straight sets on clay this year. He beat him on clay, grass, and hard court surfaces in straight sets last year.

I would appear on paper that Roger is going to kill this guy.
 
What was Soderling's record against Nadal, Davydenko, and Gonzalez going into those matches? He's not exactly the same player he was 2 weeks ago.
 
Too lazy to look that one up. But Soderling no doubt is playing above his normal level right now. Can he keep it up? We'll see. But what an amazing accomplishment it would be to beat Nadal and Federer at the French where they both have met in the finals the last 3 years.

Roger is playing for so much more than just this one title. The career grand slam. His 14th Slam victory to tie Samprass. A Win at the French vindicates him as the greatest player ever that couldn't win the French....Sampras alone will have that title. He will be fighting not only Soderling, but history, a Nadal ghost, and his own ego.

Roger looks unbelievably fit right now. He looks quick, strong, and mentally ready to handle this situation. The ball is smaller and flying around the court. It looks like a raquetball out there. I think that favors Soderling just a bit, but Roger knows how to make adjustments.

Great match upcoming. Hope everybody is watching.
 
Soderling's 1st serve is way off. I am not sure he got one in that 1st game. Roger takes advantage and breaks early.

Then Fed wins at love on his service. Up 2-0 just 6 minutes in.
 
Wow what a drop shot by Roger. follows it up with a winner.

Roger making Soderling work already on his own service. Of course not getting 1st serves in isn't helping Soderling. Roger breaks again.

3-0 Federer.

You can pretty much put this set in the books.
 
4-0 Federer. Very easy game there. Roger looks like he is still warming up and playing against a sub par workout partner.
 
Fed holds serve easily to go up 5-1.

Then Fed breaks Soderling for 3rd time in the 1st set to take the set 6-1.

Soderling looks like he is not ready for this match. He doesn't look nervous. He looks more like a guy that just didn't sleep much last night or something.
 
Federer holds 1st game of 2nd set to go up 1-0.

The crowd is completely silent. They are all ready to cheer for Roger but so far it has been such a beatdown that nobody is going to cheer for that.

This is like watching UT football beat up on Louisianna Monroe or something.

Soderling holds service. 1-1 now.
 
Roger just hit a drop shot from deadman's land. Soderling was on the backcourt and Roger could have passed him with a forward to either corner of the court. Instead he lays the drop shot down and Soderling was helpless to do anything about it.

2-1 Federer.
 
Some dude just ranon the court in a red outfit and tried to put a red hat on Roger. Crazy.

Shades of Monica Seles being attacked for a 2nd there. Security at the French needs to be improved.
 
Soderling wins easily there. You have to wonder if Federer got a little unnerved with that whole episode.

He seems to be getting his game back together now though.
