Most intelligent/well rounded athletes

Tim Duncan and David Robinson were my first two choices. Also, Kevin Garnett seems to do the right thing. Coming into the NBA he set all of his buddies up in his posse the right way. He gave each of them a job to do for him and set them up by having them learn the trade (security, travel, etc) from a professional in that area.

I have two guys that I HATED when I was growing up, but dammit, they turned out to be decent humans beings.

2 - Mel Blount has done a ton of work with his youth home.
1 - J.C. Watts.

Tiger was the first guy I thought of. Whoever said Gerald Ford made a good point.

Kind of off topic, but the athlete who I think does the best interviews is our own Damion James. I always love listening to his interviews b/c he tells you what he's thinking and is very honest with the interviewer (I guess he takes after his coach in that regard). For example, after the Kansas game he mentioned that the hardest thing about sitting on the bench in the first half was watching his buddies in a fight and not being able to get their back. Seems like a real answer.

The real geniuses are the people who are rich but haven't done a lot on the field.

1. Michelle Wie
2. Albert Belle
3. Mark Prior

Emeka Okafor (sp) - graduated summa cum laude in business in 3 years
Cal Ripkin Jr and Michelle Kwan - working for the State Dept now
Drew Gressett - investment banker
Frank Okam and Derek Lokey - 3.9 GPA, impressive LSAT scores
Major Applewhite - How was he not mentioned? Shame on you Hornfans. Shame on you.

Barry Sanders is the first name that comes to mind. I have a lot of respect for guys that accomplish a lot and get out before their bodies start to break down. I've heard Barry do a few interviews and he is always very insightful.

I hung out with Justin Blalock at Texas, and he is a really, really smart guy. It was funny hearing him talk about hanging out with the rest of the team.

Ron Darling (Yale)
Mike Mussina (Stanford)
Dave Bing (Syracuse-Pistons) amazing what he has done for the city after retiring (Multi-millionaire)

Larry Brown -Washinton Redskins- VP of Fortune 500 company, I believe.

Willie Horton-tigers (what he did during the '67 riots was amazing)

Alan Trammell

Bill Walton did a couple years at Stanford Law. Hes no dummy.

Pat Haden was a Rhodes Scholar and is a lawyer and has supposedly made gobs of money in the investment biz.
