Moon Landing

Wowza. This thread is allsome. Didn't know there were still people who were actually so delusional that this issue was still out there. Good times!

general 35, I went and heard Aldrin speak when he came to Austin last spring for the Book Fest. He was asked about how he felt about Armstrong being the first to walk. He was cool about it, but he did point out that it was sort of a reversal of standing procedure. With all the spacewalks on the previous Gemini and Apollo missions, the commander of the mission stayed in the capsule, and the #2 guy took the walk. Initially, it was going to be that way on the Apollo 11 moonwalk, but Armstrong had the last say on that, and he opted to go first. (I would have, too!). Aldrin also talks quite a bit about being the second moonwalker in his book, Magnificent Desolation. He really struggled for years with being in Armstrong's (moon)shadow.

The real guy in the shadows was the third guy who stayed behind and didn't walk on the moon at all. I had to look up his name to find out it was Michael Collins.
