Michigan-Washington Natty Game Thread

You can milk the Penix Was Injured angle all day long but his draft stock took a small hit tonight. He didn't read blitzes well enough in the 2nd half when a chance to win was at hand. He looked lost in the first half.

Good qb but there are better options out there
He wasn’t injured until the last drive…but yeah, Michigan ate him up and he was clearly scared to take a hit.

I want to see those 2 clowns that ran to our section and taunted fans to do it again. Fkn a holes. Enjoy the *** kicking you're getting
They were classless and so were a lot of their fans. Glad they got beat down. If we were to lose, better last week than in the championship. I think we matched up better with Michigan, but would've been tough to beat them tonight.

Didn't see the game but how disappointing. Sounds like Penix wasn't nearly as good as last week. Could we have blitzed as effectively as Michigan? What did they do so well that we didn't?

Michigan defense was a big difference maker tonight. Penix wasn’t the only qb that looked like the second coming of Tom Brady against our defense. QB’s have thrown almost at will against our defense since Sark has been here. Hoping Sark gives more attention to this side of the ball soon, would like to see improved secondary, rush edge and believe it or not, run blocking. I still don’t feel comfortable trying to punch the ball in from inside the 5 in 4 downs.

Michigan did blitz some, but they got pressure from the front 4. We never did. The pressure tonight wasn't dominant but penix knew the ball had to get out of his hands quickly.

It seems like they game planned tonight differently. Against us the routes were deeper / longer to develop. As if they knew they'd have all day to throw. Tonight, esp in the 1rst half, the routes were shorter, more intention to release early regardless of pressure.

Have to wonder, do we mix blitz pkgs enough week to week? Are we limited in # of looks and blitzes we run over the course of the season? I really don't know. Washington obviously didn't respect our pass rush (or secondary). That was far from the case tonight

Very good analysis!

That's a fair take.

Harbaugh watched our game last week and realized what had to be done.

I hope both Sark and PK watched the game closely last night. While we didn't have quite the same personnel as Michigan, especially in the secondary, there should certainly be several lessons on how our Sugar Bowl game plan could have been improved...
