Men's Golf to Play Alabama for the National Title

Hope this works

They were ranked number one most of the season but the second place finish at the Big XII championships followed by the second place at Regionals both because of one bad day seemed to suggest they had peaked early. Texas really benefitted from the format at the championships as the Horns were ten strokes down to Bama after the third round and in stroke play really would have had no shot to catch up after a terrible second round (very similar to the Big XII and Regional tournys). But they had the best round of any team in any round of stroke play in the third round and that got Texas into the match play as the third seed and they took it home from there. The team picked up Fritelli and Spieth yesterday when the top two players faltered and today along with Gribble who was 3-0 in match play they came back strong to get the two additional needed wins to get Texas to a national championship.

Way to Go Horns!

They came in second at the Big 12 Championship losing it to the Aggies plus the State Farm Lonestar Showdown point (which we won anyway) but I'll take an NC over any of the rest any day. This finally gets us to our 49th NC and one more and we will at last be in the 50s.

Well Done Horns!

Just watched the Golf Central weekend highlight show.

Brandel never said a word about The Horns during the broadcast.

The female host did the intro to the national champ story and highlights.

I actually watched just to see him gloat and fawn all over us.

He have some kind of problem with UT?

(don't give me any "professionalism" crap, sports hosts talk about where they're from all the time)

I admit that I don't follow golf that much but I DO KNOW the very long and distinguished list of ex longhorn players in the PGA but I gotta ask is Jordan Spieth the real deal? I mean is the hype real....is he a one and done player and does he compare well to the list of ex longhorns in the PGA?

Congrats on the Horns. Another championship drought has ended for UT.

Spieth is likely going to turn pro now that the rules have changed. He has a lot of money awaiting him and what is left to prove beyond perhaps a shot at the individual NCAA title next year or a U.S. Amateur Championship. It would be great if he returned as three of five golfers are returning and a world junior top 100 from South Africa is joining the Horns so Spieth returning would all but certainly have Texas ranked number one again going into next year.
