You're correct. In this case it appears from the pockets of boosters who choose to donate the money. I'm not 1 cent poorer due to Charlie Strong.Being self-sufficient does not mean the money appears out of thin air.![]()

Yes, but the original post to which I was responding stated: "What we pay Strong doesn't cost anyone a single penny." [emphasis added] I was assuming a booster would count as somebody. You're correct. Poetic license. Sue me.Yes, but the original post to which I was responding stated: "What we pay Strong doesn't cost anyone a single penny." [emphasis added] I was assuming a booster would count as somebody.![]()
He's not losing, he's... baking the cake
You're welcome. Always happy to educate.Definition of poetic license: "the freedom to depart from the facts of a matter or from the conventional rules of language when speaking or writing in order to create an effect."
Now I understand; thank you.![]()
I don't know about that. The cake he baked before he left UT seemed to be missing several key ingredients. Apparently reading recipes is not a skill he has perfected. He's good at baking the cake. He just hasn't figured out how to take it out of the oven yet.
It's called "schadenfreude". A million dollar word used by those with 10 cents worth of character to sound smart.I still don't see why so many find amusement in another's failures.
Especially a former Longhorn.
Charlie didn't stage a coup and take over the UT program.
He accepted a job offer.
He did his best for Longhorn nation and it just wasn't good enough, fast enough.
He doesn't need me wishing him the best as he's living larger than I could hope for in this lifetime.
But I do wish him success.
Especially a former Longhorn.
When Strong arrived, I hated the way he puffed his chest out and acted like he was taking over some outlaw program like the late eighties U. All that BS about cleaning house and no guns and respect for women…oh brother. During Mack’s tenure, many on this very board used to argue that he had too many boy scouts, that we needed more gangstas. So Strong was clueless from Day 1. The fact that he managed to offend just about every Texas high school football coach from the very beginning didn’t help matters, and was another clue to his cluelessness. The guy set our program back years, good riddance, let him go ruin another school’s program. And he's not a former Longhorn, by the way...I still don't see why so many find amusement in another's failures. Especially a former Longhorn.
Well hey, he did better in his bowl than Applewhite....![]()
I also cede to @zuckercanyon that Herman definitely inherited a worse situation from Charlie in terms of player development than Mack Brown inherited from Mackovic.
I think they both walked into similar situations most of the experienced players were around in year 1 and then year 2 the youth wave started. I think Herman having cdc vs Charlie having Patterson definitely helped Herman get things up and running better.
I promise the lockers didn't contribute to not one extra win this year.
I think one could argue they exacerbate those problems because they create a sense of entitlement.Mack Brown was able to win 8-9 games the previous three years with those same lockers. The lockers have nothing to do with poor tackling, no discipline, penalties, poor in-game decisions, no defense, etc.
I was impressed by the Army play yesterday. Crushed a team with a handsome coach and fancy new stadium with enthusiasm. And they had the same name on the back of their jerseys, "Army". Could you imagine if we insisted on the same for our jerseys? HA!I think one could argue they exacerbate those problems because they create a sense of entitlement.
Then why did Herman feel a need to spend $10k per locker to have them installed?Mack Brown was able to win 8-9 games the previous three years with those same lockers. The lockers have nothing to do with poor tackling, no discipline, penalties, poor in-game decisions, no defense, etc.

Well, those Irish Catholics they recruit aren't really concerned with all that.I'm guessing Notre Dame doesn't have lockers with stainless steel doors/trim, LED lighting, USB ports, individual flat screen for each player above them....ND is in the Final Four.
