Marshall vs USF

28-10 Marshall at the half. It's funny USF is getting run over, but they are so full of themselves. ALMOST catch an interception so the DB runs to the QB and slaps his helmet and shoves him. Make a good catch and the receiver comes up strutting around while the final seconds of the half are ticking off the clock, but the rest of the team was lined up for the next play waiting on him. Almost screwed up a 22yd fg with a bad snap. Typical Charlie type player crap.

Charlie is precisely where he belongs now, and his team is about to end its season with a 6-game losing streak. We're still paying that ************, but that's about to end soon...

Final score 38-20 Marshall. Every time the camera caught CS he had that familiar blank stare or was staring at the ground. Hard to believe he took over a one loss program and turned them into a 7-6 program that had to overcome three double digit 4th qtr deficits to get that record.

So will he be getting paid by two schools when he starts looking for his next job?

I actually did think he would make it to coach against us... but looks like he gets fired next year without a miracle turnaround.

UT plays South Florida in 2020.

UT Football 2020 Schedule:
9/5/2020 South Florida
9/12/2020 @LSU
9/19/2020 UTEP

"I told them we just have to play better. I don't understand why they just don't play better."

If you read any of the South Florida fan comments, they are apparently really tired of hearing this.

At this point the Charlie Strong bashing has become redundant and lame. Let it go.
It would be lame if it were inaccurate. Sadly, it is VERY accurate!

One could also make the very unfortunate point that he remains a Texas employee in the sense that he still is being paid by the University of Texas system. Taxpayers retain an inalienable right to criticize those it is paying...

The athletic department is entirely self-sufficient. What we pay Strong doesn't cost anyone a single penny.

As soon as the Mack Brown bashing stops...

Charlie was our coach more recently than Brown and was the objective worst (least successful) coach in school history.

I will also note there is a narrative that he did not succeed here because he did not get enough support. He is killing that narrative at South Florida.

Another narrative was that he took over a program in bad shape. In truth he took over a program in decent but not great shape and took it down the gutter to “losing to Kansas depths.” He is taking South Florida down the drain as well.

Finally, there is relevance in that I am giving Tom Herman more leeway now that I see he, unlike when Charlie got here, had a pretty big rebuilding job due to the complete lack of player development for three years.

All the “this is a complete rebuild/someone needs to clean house” was really applicable to Herman, not Strong here.

I also cede to @zuckercanyon that Herman definitely inherited a worse situation from Charlie in terms of player development than Mack Brown inherited from Mackovic.

I still think he is a nice man and would have been happy for him if he found success as a HC. But yeah the data is in and a HC he is not.
Red McCombs has been proven right when he said he'd make a good coordinator (although I think Red said position coach which was just dick-ish)

As usual I agree with most of what you said, but not this. Mack's 2013 record was better but the talent he left for Strong was most definitely not. So I guess I would argue Mack was doing more with less. But its all relative. Charlie's teams underperformed so badly that's no bragging point on Mack.

The issue was, at the time it was argued that the talent was not there to do better than six losses. Whether the talent was there to do 10+ wins is debatable. However, the talent was there that we should have lost no more than 5 games a year. We definitely should have been hitting at least 7-8 wins. Mack may not have left us in great shape, but he did not leave a dumpster fire. The 2014 UCLA, OU and West Virginia and 2015 Okie State and OU games showed enough talent was there to be competitive and win 8 games. Getting eviscerated by Iowa State, BYU (including in 2013 under Mack), Arkansas, losing to Kansas, etc was due to coaching, not talent. We were coached down from an 8-9 win team to 5-6 win team. Mack may not have left a title contender, but he did not leave a complete rebuild either. In fairness to Herman, while there definitely are areas of coaching improvement he needs to make, 7-6 may not have been all that bad given the lack of player development he inherited. My point was, you can certainly say Mack did not leave the program where it was in the 2000s, but saying he left a dumpster fire or complete rebuild is not fair. Strong created a dumpster fire. Strong had the talent to win 7-9 games his first two years like Herman has and build some momentum like Herman has. In fact, Strong almost certainly inherited a program in better shape.

I will also not the vitriol spewed at Mack continues to outweigh what comes at Charlie despite the fact Mack is far far far less deserving of it.

@Detective Shilala I will note you have been fair throughout all tenures and my other posts in this thread are not directed you. Even we have disagreed, you have never had an unreasonable basis for anything.

I wouldn't call it bashing as much as vindication observations from all those excuse makers defending him. Strong is showing the same opportunities at USF that he had here and has clearly proven he had no business being a Texas head coach. I questioned the move from day one because it was simply a political hire and had nothing to do with hiring the best candidate for the job.

So you don't believe a penny of the funds going to chuckles comes from what people have spent on tickets?
Coach's salaries come from boosters. But I misspoke. A a penny or so yes. 99.9% of it no. And the last I checked Texas has no state income tax.

I wont speak in specifics as a lot of that was covered about MB and CS. It is very obvious that MB is a much better coach overall than CS. Probably due to his recruiting, player development, and his ability to lead and delegate authority. I know I am a MB fan and I won't try to hide that. But he is the second winningest coach in UT history. CS left TH a complete and utter disaster of a dumpster fire and if he gets a 10th win in his second year that will be an accomplishment! I hope it happens. I agree with several of the previous posters that in hindsight, 7-6 was a good outcome for TH coming out of the dumpster fire of the CS era. I really think Strong will go down in history as one of our worst coaching hires. The more TH succeeds the more that appears true. I've made bad hires before, it happens to everyone eventually.

CS post game comment:

"Very disappointing," Strong said in a Raymond James hallway after the game. "We don't like it. I'm telling you right now, we're going to clean up this whole program. A lot of guys will be leaving. We need a good washing."

Seriously? We need a good washing and a lot of guys will be leaving? He inherited a 1 loss team with a Heisman candidate and two years later he's talking cleaning house? The sooner USF realizes it's not the players the better off they'll be.
